The Do-It-All Pack

For starters, I'm a huge fan of Mystery Ranch. Their gear is top of the line and I'm so glad REI is carrying more of it and partnering with them for exclusives like the 2Day EDC. I loved the old Dana Design packs back in the day and was thrilled to find out that Mystery Ranch was started by Dana and is the natural evolution of those packs. There's a reason why the smoke jumpers and wildfire firefighters out west swear by Mystery Ranch. I bought this pack to use instead of a Mystery Ranch 3Day Assault bag when that's not appropriate for the task at hand. The 3Day Assault replaced my older similarly sized REI Trail pack but isn't always right to take on every trip. It is better suited for backcountry hiking, able to haul more gear but still small enough that I could use it as my carry on for international flights. I love that pack and it was worth the hefty price tag, like all Mystery Ranch products. However, when I'm on less adventurous travel I needed something that would carry my laptop, Nalgene bottle externally, camera gear and other odds and ends that was small enough that I could shove it under the seat on the plane but also if I want to get out and explore it can still handle it. The design on this isn't as TactiCoolâ„¢ as some other packs but more so than others, which is fine in the urban environment. I hate drawing attention if I can avoid it. I looked at a lot of bags but most in this size range either didn't have the ability to carry a laptop internally or worse- if it had them, the water bottle pockets were fixed and couldn't expand to hold a 32oz Nalgene. I did consider the MR 2Day Assault but its internal storage leaves a lot to be desired, and comes in substantially more expensive. The 3-Zip design is by far the best I've found for both loading up at your base and grabbing your gear on the go. You can load it like a top load pack and still get to everything without having to remove it all... like a top load. And it can swallow a ton of stuff. Internal organization pockets are plentiful. The two front pockets inside are perfect for carrying a Joby tripod or water bottle. Both those and the mesh pockets inside are well placed to get quick access items by only unzipping the top flap. There's access on the side and internally for a laptop, and though it is padded I'm still going to put my 13" MacBook Air in a separate sleeve- it doesn't hold it anywhere nearly as tight as my Osprey work backpack does. I love the internal slim pocket for travel docs and magazines. Molle webbing throughout the exterior adds to the TactiCoolâ„¢ factor but realistically makes it much more expandable than the similar sized Mystery Ranch Coulee 30. Pros: Mystery Ranch Quality. 3-Zip opening Expanding mesh side pockets for larger water bottles, etc. Tons of internal organization Lots of molle webbing for expansion Distributes weight evenly and is very adjustable External and internal laptop access Looks less TactiCoolâ„¢ than other packs Cons: Laptop compartment needs more padding No compression straps No removable hip belt like other packs No included/internally stored rain fly. Needs a larger morale patch Velcro section up top. In spite of the cons above I still give it 5 stars. I cannot recommend Mystery Ranch gear enough.

EDC backpack

I just received this backpack today and it got here 3 days early. It’s very high quality and I plan on using it for its intended purpose. EDC bag. I inspected it and can’t find any flaws. I think it’s very well though out. Only thing I noticed was the drink holders need to be deeper, but that’s not a problem for me. The color is exactly like the picture. Noble Fir. But it still needs to be put through daily life. I’ll update the review in 6 months of hard use. I’m impressed with the quality and price. As of right now, this is a great buy.

Perfect pack for an EDC

I was a huge fan of Dana Designs in the 90's (I still have my Teraplane) and was elated when I found Mystery Ranch in 2021. In '21 I purchased the Robo Flip pack as I wanted something new to replace my 15 year old North Face day pack. I loved the durability and design of the Robo Flip, though it was a little small at times. After using it as and EDC for several years, I wanted a tad more space as well as some internal pockets so I could keep track of smaller things a bit better in my bag (without resorting to additional bags). Enter the Mystery Ranch 2 Day EDC pack. This is almost identical to the one offered directly from Mystery Ranch, though this has the added webbing on the outside which is amazing! Now I can attach a couple of d rings to it and carry additional things, I can put my waterbottle in the outter pocket and secure it with a d ring as well so it does not fall. The split open design which allows for easy access to EVERY part of this pack is amazing. The workmanship is top quality as well. It has room for my laptop and books, as well as easy access to both and it has pockets to hold my charger, mouse and ear buds as well. I plan to have this pack for a while.

Tough and Sturdy EDC Backpack

My first Mystery Ranch backpack. I didn't want the 2 Day Assault and on my recent trip to REI NYC, I saw the 2 Day EDC. This bag was exactly what I was looking for. Ample space. Great access to all the pockets. Sturdy. Side Laptop access. Comfortable harness. As a daily backpack for work, it's perfect.

Great Commuter Bag, Bottle Pockets fall short

This bag is awesome. The zippers are annoying at first, but once you get used to them, you understand why they exist. I can pack the bag efficiently and access a ton of gear on the go. I use the bag for morning commutes to the office, and it can easily hold my laptop, change of clothing, pair of shoes, and misc. My one gripe is that the water bottle pockets are too shallow. I usually keep an umbrella or 24L water bottle on the outside of my packs, and you can’t do it on this one if you don’t want it to pop out.

Great alternative to the 2DAP!

Somehow holds everything my 2 Day Assault packs hold, and yet seems so much more compact and easy to manage. I like these water bottle pockets better too. The fabric is stretchy and still expands plenty, but when not in use doesn't continue to protrude obnoxiously from the bag. Like the internal organization and the two lid pockets. Between all of that my most used items all have a specific place so I can easily locate them. The straps are really thick and cushioned and the bag is very comfortable for me to wear. Also love the water resistance between the fabric and the aqua guard zippers all my stuff is managing to stay dry in these crazy storms we are having in Southern California. I like the bag so much I even ordered it in another color.

The bag I have been searching for.

I travel frequently for both work and leisure, and for years I’ve been searching for the perfect backpack—trying countless brands and styles. This one is, hands down, the best I’ve ever used. It’s compact yet surprisingly spacious, with plenty of compartments to keep everything organized. The fully opening front is a total game changer, and the MOLLE straps are a great bonus for attaching extra gear. On top of all that, the build quality is outstanding. Easily a 10 out of 10.

All rounder from carry on to the mts

Great all day bag. I kept about 2 days of items in it as we hiked through trails, waterfalls, mountains and fields. It felt comfortable and was fairly water resistant. I like the side pouches inside to keep phones/wallets easily accessible. Even has a laptop pouch if you need it.

Wonderful pack

I was in REI buying a different pack for a family member and saw this. I was immediately impressed with the design and how it felt on my back, so it was easy to convince myself to get it. It has good internal pockets that organize my stuff better plus some external ones as well. The three zipper design is really great when you get used to it. My first use was on a plane trip cross country. It’s much better than traditional packs as, on a plane I don’t have to empty out the pack to get at stuff at the bottom. The exterior is clean and doesn’t have too much stuff to catch on things. (There is MOLLE webbing but it is smooth and well sized to the bag so it doesn’t snag. I don’t want a waist belt or a lot of dangling stuff. I know Mystery Ranch products are top quality designs and construction. I have an expedition backpack by Dana Designs, the predecessor of Mystery Ranch and it’s just as good as when I bought it back in the mid 90’s.

Great pack!

This a great pack for travel. It is so easy to access items that I put into it. The only reason I have not given five stars is because of the water bottle pockets on the side. They are too shallow.
