We are some 5-6 weeks into the Covid-19 stay at home order as I write this, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy the great outdoors, indoors! We had Campfire day via text with our grandchildren and out of state family and I slept in my new Helio Sack 50 atop my new air mattress (reviewed elsewhere) right in the living room. This bag replaces an old er REI bag that mice got into while in storage. I was at first hesitant to buy a mummy bag as they looked like they would be too confining for my liking, but it is surprisingly roomy and very light. I can curl up on my side just fine and I find the left side partial zipper very convenient for sitting up inside the bag and the large toe box is what got me to go ahead and get this bag. We have the temperature reduce to 64ÂşF/18ÂşC at night and the bag still felt comfortable, never too warm and without clamminess. The zippers work with minimal and only minor snagging and stuffs down very compact. Very pleased with this sleeping bag and plan to make frequent use of it; highly recommend.
I have been looking for a lightweight 3 season sleeping bag which was slightly bigger than standard mummy bag; which would compress down small enough to easily fit in bicycle panniers; and have what I call the "GOLDILOCKS" factor - Not too cold and not too hot but just right. This bag fit the bill. I was fortunate enough to catch it on sale as one of the few that were left as now they are out of stock. Just had it a few days and have already tested it out in 48 degree temperatures. I move around in my sleep and sleep rather warm. This bag kept me nice and toasty. I slept in boxer shorts and wick top and became a little warm at one point in the early morning. I had enough run to move around without have the urge to kick my feet like I do with my winter mummy bag. All I can say is I wish I had made this purchase sooner but glad I have it now. Fits my needs PERFECTLY. Even though this bag is not available the Helio 55 Sleeping Bag is a great option
I bought this to lighten the load for my summertime backpacking trips. I am a VERY warm sleeper, and a 30 degree bag is just overkill for me, even at 12,000 feet. I am impressed with the quality and it has some really cool features — I LOVE the partial zip on the left side that allows me to have both arms out with the hood still on, as well as the design of the dual purpose stuff sack. The fact that the foot unzips is also very welcome. I have not yet tried rolling the end of the bag up and wearing it around like a giant poofy hoodie, but I plan to, rest assured.
I bought this before going on a two day backpacking trip in the Olympic National Forest. The lows only got down to around 50° at night, so this bag should have provided enough insulation, but even while wearing pants, wool socks, a T-shirt, and a zipped-up hoodie, I was still extremely cold most of the night. I do like the design of the bag, with the separate foot zip, the roomy foot box, and the partial shoulder zip opposite the main zipper. It has a great dual-purpose mesh storage bag and compact stuff sack, and the bag packs down really small and light. I also appreciate the “long” size option for people over 6’ tall, like me. But ultimately it just wasn’t warm enough for my use.
I’m a big guy and 6’4”. The Long version is plenty long enough but it’s kinda narrow so I sleep with arms out which is fine because it’s only a summer weight bag anyway. It packs down quite small but not to 2L. Maybe 3L compressed, maybe. haven’t measured. I like that it’s filled with synthetic insulation so it should be easier to wash. I bought it specifically for summer bicycle camping and it works well for that. Overall I’m happy with it.
I'm a woman, 5'9" and got the regular size to use for warm weather kayaking trips. Just tried it for the first time in temps above 70 degrees in a synthetic sleep shirt and pants and it did not hold up to the 50 degree as advertised. I like the two zippers, but they seems to catch easily and the interior fabric clung, making it impossible to turn over without the bag twisting badly. The hood was too tinyl to accommodate even my small compressible pillow and if you're a woman with any hips, even though this is advertised as "unisex," it feels like a squeeze. Returning it later this week.
I backpack only occasionally and only in the summer in the New Mexico mountains. I needed a lightweight bag but didn't want to spend a lot of money on it. This bag fills the bill perfectly. Great value.
I went on a cross country motorcycle trip with this and it worked great. In Utah it got down to 40F and I was still warm in the bag. Going into the Rockies it got a bit colder but the bag was still warm enough while wearing thermals. Mt tent failed me and leaked during a bad storm and the bag dried quickly the next day. At 6'2 235lb the long bag was long enough, it's a bit tight for my size but all in all I will keep using the bag.
I really like the compact size of this sleeping bag. It's about half the size of my cold weather bags. This definitely isn't meant to be a winter sleeping bag. I have one of these and ordering another for summertime use. I'm going hiking with my family and want to be able to use a few sleep sacks and two of these for summer. These open up and can be used like a blanket. It's also small enough that sometimes I will stick it in my suitcase just in case my flight is delayed or I end up staying with friends and want to have my own bag with me.
While this bag is priced well, and nicely unzips into a blanket; while zipped up it is very narrow. I am 5'10" and a solid 225 lbs, no fluff, and this bag doesn't give me much room to move my upper body at all. Very tight around my shoulders and elbows.
