Black Diamond does not support their products
I would strongly recommend against buying a battery powered Black Diamond Airbag Pack. I purchased my pack 4 years ago. The battery is out of Warranty, and when I reached out to Black Diamond, they no longer manufacture a battery pack that will work with the pack, citing lack of availability of the cells that were used in my original pack. Obviously, they could manufacture a new battery back with new cells that meets the same voltage, amperage, and watt hour requirements, but they are not. This means that a $1500 product is now a very heavy closet ornament. Do not buy these packs, as is it unlikely that black diamond will stand behind them for more than a couple of years.
good in theory
I set it off once (practice) and used it several times in the out of doors. It was in the closet for a couple of years and when I tried to charge it - it would not take a charge. Of course it was out of warranty. I took it apart and at least one battery had failed. Lithium batteries can fail if the charge drops below a certain level but mine failed because of corrosion (poor quality control at time of manufacture). Instead of paying BD I found a custom battery builder and he rebuilt it for about $200.00 dollars. The cells in the battery box are a standard lithium cell the issue is assembly which can be dangerous and best left to someone with the proper equipment.
Don't buy short lifespan
Used to be a great brand spent thousands with them, but I don't recommend investing in any of the more expensive items as support is pretty much non existent now. I purchased a premium Black Diamond Jet Force Back Pack for well over 1000 USD. I used it maybe 5 times, the pack was never engineered for storing as it has a small draw on the battery. I was basically told the only way to get it fixed was to spend $400 for a replacement battery. I'm still not sure how a battery for this backpack is $400 it's almost half the cost of this backpack. This is really pitiful performance of a battery if I've only used the backpack 5 days and only did test inflations to make sure it was working. I now have a useless backpack, don't support companies that don't support their customers with reasonable service options. They should mention that the battery has a useful life of 2 years even if unused. CS response: After many years of complimentary service on first generation JetForce Avalanche packs, Black Diamond is switching to a paid service for packs outside of their warranty period. If your pack is older than 2 years (from date of purchase), please visit the link below to purchase the new service option: Link to $400 purchase. Don't risk your life with this poorly engineered product.
OK when it works- but it does not last
I used this product for one year and followed all the maintenance/storage instructions. The battery died after 14 months and the warranty on the battery is 12 months. A replacement is not in stock (don't know when it will be) and costs $350. I am not even sure that it is worth to fix the bag given the short life of the battery.
Almost…
I want to love this bag, but not there yet. As a small rider (5’2”), the smal/medium size is too tall for my frame… I can manage, but it’s definitely designed for taller people. To boot, the back frame is flat and with little support. I’m finding hot spots where it hits a belt loop, for instance. No less, I love the ease of the airbag set up and deployment. Three pockets are good for separation of gear, but admittedly, the airbag takes up a lot of space in the main compartment. Finding that I have to adjust what I pack in the bag. I’d love to see the split board specific bag in the larger size.
great bag
love my jetforce, convenient storage, fits all the essentials and has a sturdy feel, not floppy on your back like other bags. simple controls and deployment as well!
Design flaws
These packs will come apart. The zipper that holds that cargo portion of these packs on WILL come undone and poof yard sale. The fact that bd hasn’t remedied this boggles my mind as it is one of the worst designs I’ve encountered. You will be in happy with this purchase.
What is your life worth?
This is my 4th Jetforce pack and it is awesome. Great for practice and I hope I never have to deploy it to help save my life but I always wear it in case. Hopefully the battery system will last longer than the Pilot 11 very comfortable and good storage space.
very well designed and light
I bought this to go touring in the backcountry, very love how strong and well designed it is, and it is very light comes at 6lb, wish it was easier to wire the radio but after 10 minutes it was all done.
So far it’s great
I had the older version from 2016 and this one is much lighter. It could use some more pockets, but other than that I am very happy. Haven't had to deploy it yet thank god.
