Bought these to hike the 20 miles confluence hike from Havasupai with 20 river crossings. They were the perfect water hiking shoe. I wore thin smartwool socks with them. No blisters, no raw spots, great traction and my feet weren’t even sore after that distance. I wear 7.5 and prefer a wide shoe. The 7.5 was perfect size for me.
I love the fit, tread, stickiness and everything about these shoes. I've had them less than a year and haven't gone hiking very often and the mesh is disintegrating which is disappointing.
Runs small. I wear a size 7 but in this style an 8. Very light weight. Good grub.
I love the way these shoes look and feel and I would be a repeat customer, but the shoes just don't last at all...I've owned two pairs and both pairs developed gaping holes where the mesh toe box material joins the more rigid lacing area. Two holes on each side of the shoe...both shoes...this seems like a serious design flaw. I hate it when something prematurely falls apart. Terrible for the wallet but more importantly, terrible for the environment! I can't believe I haven't seen other reviews state this problem either. I know it isn't just me experiencing this. Makes me wonder if companies delete their bad reviews?
I just received my second pair of these terrific shoes and already love them. After years of struggling on and off with plantar fasciitis, I opted for this low profile shoe with lots of toe room and flex, but still plenty of structure for long runs on roads or trails. The shoes snugly hold my feet in their natural shape, allowing plenty of movement, not forcing them around or into a more rigid form. The mesh is great for wet NC summers but also just fine for winter runs with good socks, even on snowy mountain trails. Another important feature for me is the lack of ornamental stitching across the toe area, allowing my toes maximum range of natural movement. These are excellent shoes.
Hit the trail with these a few days ago (rock, boulder, skree) and then in the river at the bottom of that trail. They worked well on the trail with grip and comfort (no breaking in needed). And they were fantastic in the water...lightweight, drained well and quickly, no smell, dried quickly after. Even wore them to a color run on 4th of July and they were great there too!
I bought these Astral shoes for a trip on a boat. They were perfect for getting in & out of the water & into the dingy. There worked well for hiking after getting wet, I did wear socks when we got on shore for the 4 mile hike. I would definitely recommend these shoes if you’re going to be going through water & need some protection for your feet.
I bought these shoes specifically for a 16 day rafting trip through the Grand Canyon, knowing I'd be hiking and getting in and out of rafts. Well, I wasn't disappointed! I found them stable enough to climb elevations quickly, sturdy enough to traverse over slippery surfaces and durable enough that they didn't fall apart. They dried quickly, even after being submerged, which is a plus when you're making camp every night and packing up in the morning. I'd highly recommend them! I also like these over my Keen's because I wasn't getting small rocks under my feet.I got them on a pro deal to boot!
I am not rough on my shoes by any means, yet my shoes have holes in them now. I havent put the amount of miles that is implied by the picture. I do normal everyday walking around. The soles of my shoes look amazing and are no where near being ready to throw out. I would like to say it's a fluke but my daughters shoes started getting holes on them before mine. She wears hers even less than I wear mine, granted she can be tougher on things than me. I actually lectured her on treating her shoes right when hers started getting holes on the top. I loved the shoes up until mine started ripping. Ugh.
I was so in love with these shoes but within 1-1/2 months the navy color material was peeling off the toe box area, which has just got progressively worse. They look terrible and look like I have white paint on my shoes. Within a month I could also feel the material in the heel area crunching like newspaper despite always putting them on correctly. Now within 5 months the inside area of the toe box is coming apart inside the shoes. I just wear these to work in a library, Im not even hiking in them. They are the most poorly constructed shoes I have ever purchased, I cant believe it at this cost.
