Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

Been waiting a long time for thus boot so far it is very comfortable with good support haven’t tested the waterproof eVent yet looking forward to hunting early season in this boot
First and foremost,(as far as I know)Altra footwear Is the only company on the planet earth that manufactures(on a large scale to the general public) zero drop foot shape shoes, $$$~Other than custom-made shoe cobblers~$$$ That being said the shoe is extremely unique a-highbred meta-Morphis.(anatomical~ Ergonomically & oblique, Healthy human foot-shaped platform & zero drop or no elevation in the hill is (((more important))) Then looks. #1The Altra Tushar Boot is Nimble,Does not causes one to restrict the mobility of there foot #2.Altra's Have different degrees of foot shape designs,Timp1.5 To me seems to be the most ergonomically correct, #3. Tushar-2nd-Phase: Increase the Instep depth, Increase the widt(from the toes just passed the ball joint) people like me have not drank the Kool-Aid of pointed toes and elevated heels, Which throws the whole skeletal structure out of balance and decreases agility and traction-because of the overall restricted design of most footwear.(our toes are not!!! supposed to be crunched-up & our heels not supposed to be elevated!!! It seem like this would be common sense. (The premature wear-hole) No doubt is a manufacture defect(possibility of Collaborating engineers and quality control personnel) Are getting paid secretly by competitors to undermine Altra. I am no fool I spent over 25 years in the military. Peace and tranquility to All.
(Second review :) AAAR analytical after action report #1. Increase 4~foot to more oblique shape/ anatomical ergonomic #2. Increase depth = if I remove the insole it seems to fit more comfortable , wearing a thick wool sock #3. Enstep leasing system can be easily compromised- with people that use jerking motions when leasing " replace with eyelids or same type of link-hardware you have on the rest of the Boot #4. Produce:) the gray granite color or a OD-green of deep forest green color . Peace and tranquility to all
Ive used the tushar since for a couple of months on wet hikes on vancouver island. After only 2 hikes I was quick to realize that the waterproof claim is quite baseless. My feet have never remained dry. The most disappointing part about this boot is that there is a dramatic failure point at the start of the toe box guard rubber. Each shoe quickly developed gaping holes on both sides of the toe guard in the first, then the second, and third layer of fabric after less than half a dozen moderate hike. The shoe bends at this point with each step and it is quite obvious to see the design flaw. In addition, the fabric eyelets for the laces rip easily, and my shoes developed large cracks in the sole of shoe. I was excited when i first heard this boot was coming out, but i would definitely not recommend until it has some major improvements. I would expect a hiking boot from Altra to last more than a month or two after purchase. Ive loved wearing Lone peaks for the last couple of years. But definitely cannot say the same about this boot
first and most of all ! There is no other company producing zero drop footwear with anatomical human foot shape; except for the Altra company. Second of all the company is relatively new . Yet they have taken comfortable shoes / footwear by storm !!!! . with a commonsense approach ( and that is !!! we were not born with elevated heels and our toes are not supposed to be crunched up ) my feet are not all that wide , I just like footwear that shaped like a normal human healthy foot- with no elevated heels. I already own three-3 pair of the Altra Tushars ( so I do think they should go back to the design board ( increase the 4 foot particularly more oblique-anatomical-shaped- more ergonomic = wider & increase the depth ) I notice if I remove the insert and wear a thick wool sock the boot is more comfortable to me !! , do away with the leasing system that’s on the instep and replace it with the D~Rings or V~Rings or eye~ Holes , something similar to The rest of the boot or the lone Peaks with there’s a sturdy loop.
For the last several years I've been walking/hiking/jogging in Altra trail shoes. I've come to love their wide toe box, and was thrilled to see them make a rugged hiking boot. It's been years since I've owned a hiking boot, due to most all styles being too small/narrow/tight. These offer Altra's great wide toe box along with a strong sole, supported arch and mid-foot area, and rugged sides, toe, and heel area. So overall they're very comfortable and solid, and keep my feet feeling strong and stable for long hikes through all sorts of terrain. They feel sturdy, durable and well made. I'm glad to have a high-top hiking boot again that I can use on the long and rough trails, instead of just a trail shoe.
I had high hopes for these boots. They ticked all the boxes for me. I have three crooked toes from a motorcycle accident, so I thought a wide footbox miggt help with the pain I always get with other hiking boots. And they did! I’ve also had problems with other foot pain with other boots which prompted me to get custom-made insoles to remedy the problem. With these boots I didn’t need them! The zero drop and wide toe box apparently is a winning combo for my feet! But now to the bad... The first time I wore gaiters, the stitching in the gaiter hook on the front came undone. I wasn’t doing anything crazy with them. Just normal hiking. This isn’t a major dealbreaker though. I opted to re-sew it myself. (I live overseas and don’t want the hassle of the return) But what IS a dealbreaker is the waterproof-ness...or lack of it. The first time I did a stream crossing, my feet got soaked. And no, the water did not get in over the top. When it happened I had considered that might have been the issue, but when I got back home I tested them and water is getting in somewhere around the toe area, for BOTH boots. And this is unacceptable to me. Being waterproof is a must for all of my boots. For one boot, all I need to do it get the toe box wet and it starts seeping inside. The other one it’s somewhere around the tongue. And again, it’s not getting in from the top of the boot. (And for the record, I did the stream crossing and waterproof test at home BEFORE I did the re-sewing of the gaiter hook) So yeah, these boots are really comfortable and I really want to like them, but I cannot recommend them until they come out with version 2.0 and these problems are fixed. On a side note, I noticed I had more ankle issues while wearing these boots. Many times my ankle has wanted to roll in these. I haven’t had that problem with previous leather hiking boots. This is my first pair of non-leather, so maybe it’s common with this type of fabric? Also, the traction doesn’t seem as good with these in the mountains that I hike (Taiwan). This is compared to several other boots I’ve worn here. It’s not terrible, but I’ve slipped and fallen more often wearing these than others. But who knows, maybe I’m turning into a klutz as I age and has nothing to do with the boots. Just thought I’d add that experience.
I tried the Lone Peak RSM mid hi because I have several Lone Peak low tops and loved them. The mids were not comfortable and seemed less durable than the low tops. Or maybe it was because they are meant to be boots but can’t really take the abuse of a boot. So I returned them to test out Altra’s first foray into real boots, the Tushar. I read the two available reviews on REI.com and thought these could work. I also thought the second reviewer’s suggestion to remove the insole was strange. Then I received mine and they were tight around the middle of feet. Just for fun I removed the insoles. Shocker, it helped. A lot. I thought this is silly because it’s taking out the insole cushion entirely. But walking around in them for awhile, I think it does work just fine. But we’ll see. I mean, you haven’t to remove an insole cushion to get a true to size fit. But if this works for real hikes, then I will happily change this review to 5 stars. The rest of the boot seems perfect—traction, construction, etc.
Bought them in March of this year. Love hiking in them but quickly learned they aren't even water proof enough for walking through wet grass, much less rain. Less of a complaint but noticeable is that they are not that rugged and the uppers began tearing after some decent but not extreme use. Want to get another pair for the winter but afraid they won't be good for any kind of wet weather, either.
I really like the looks and materials of this boot a lot. Unfortunately after having owned them four weeks with moderate use they've developed holes in the outer fabric at the toebox bumper due to a design flaw. The toebox is nice and wide but the internal volume of the midfoot is narrow across the metatarsals (and I don't have a fat foot).
