Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Supreme comfort
Love these shoes! They have lots of toe room without being loose in the heel. I like the fact that I could get zero drop without a "minimal" shoe, this has quite a bit of cushioning. They are as plush as my Hoka One One Bondi 5s. It took a little while to change over to zero drop, but I'm much more comfortable running now that the heel of my shoe doesn't hit the ground first. I usually wear a 9 or 9.5, these fit best in 9.5.

Comfortable but unstable
I like these shoes but I don’t love them. I like the wider toe box, the mesh upper, and overall fit. They also really mean it when they say plush. They are like running on pillows and I enjoyed them for about 75 miles. However, the more I run in them the more unstable they feel. The ride gives a floating feeling and I just don’t feel as balanced as I do in other shoes. I will keep running in these, but don’t think I’ll buy another pair.

Got my life back

This is one of the best shoe that I ever had and I have tried almost all brands. I had severe pain in my right foot due to an injury. My mobility was limited to just a few yards a day. I tried multiple doctors, podiatrists, chiropractors and shoe brands and nothing worked. What helped me was the treatment from an experienced accupuncturist. He is the one who recommended this shoe. I am back to normal now and able to walk 4-5 miles each day without any issue. I lost almost 2 years of my life due to foot issues, I hope I was not scared of acupuncturist's needles and had tried this shoes earlier. Oh, well its never late.

Exactly what I needed

I wore the escalante for the past year for all my runs and really loved them. But soon after my first marathon I started having foot and ankle issues. I thought I would try something with more padding, and I'm so glad altra created the Torin plush, because it's exactly what I needed! They are so comfortable, great for both fast and slow runs. If I had to critique one thing on this shoe though it would be that it doesn't have a "pull tab" on the back of the heel to assist with putting them on. And the laces that come with the shoe are really stiff and long. But beyond that, they helped alleviate pain and give me what I needed to train for my next marathon. Thanks Altra!

Super comfortable, not very durable

These shoes were very comfortable straight out of the box. The extra space in the toe box felt great on my foot, although I do wish I had sized down a half size. I've used these for mostly 3-5 mile runs and a couple 10+ mile runs for a total of about 150 miles on mostly paved surfaces. The mesh is starting to tear is some places (see photo). I am a little disappointed that they are showing signs of wear after only about 4 months of use.

I want to like them, but...

I have been wearing my Torin Plush 4s for about 7 mos. I like the fact that they make my hip and lower back feel good, and that they make me look taller. I don't run because of a hip injury, but they're great for walking, although they could have more side stability. I would like it better if the color was basic black on white sole too. I think they run a 1/2 size too long. I wonder if anyone else has noticed that the interior of this shoe smells like plastic combined with cat spray? None of my other shoes smell bad, just the Torin plus. Plus they still have that unpleasant scent even after I have thrown them in the washer.

I love, love this shoe!!!!! Please Don't Stop Making It!!!!!

I didn't realize how much forefoot pain I had until I started power walking with a friend. These shoes solved the problem instantly!!!!! The forefoot is sooooooooooooooooo cushy! The double lacing system lets me snug these shoes onto my skinny feet as tightly as I want without squishing my toes and aggravating my neuroma. The 10 1/2 fit perfectly out of the box, so i didn't have to buy a size 11 just to get the arch long enough for my foot. I could even feel the shoes stopping my oversupinating at pushoff and i actually started using my big toe. i felt this realign my spine all the way to my head. Can't say enough about these shoes!!!!!

feels like slippers

I have two pairs of the regular Torin 4, I didn’t make the jump to the Plush version until after I pounded the pavement too much (a road ultra) to the point I ended up in a walking cast with tendonitis and bursitis in my foot. No fun. As soon as I got out of the walking cast I picked these up and wore them every day over a hectic holiday trip. I hiked in them, walked 50k, biked in them... they were great. Super cushiony. I will be able to start running again next week, I look forward to slowly easing back. I think for normal distances (half and below) I like the feel of the regular Torin 4. But for Ultra and just to cushion and baby my foot that Plush version has been the bomb. The back of the heel at the Achiellies was digging in a bit on one of the first days wearing them so I bent it down backwards to not cut in. Seems to have worked. Fit is true to size, love that Altras allow the foot to splay out, seems to help with my plantar fasciitis. The plush version is awesome while I am recovering from an overuse injury in my foot.

Wish they had held up!

I had high hopes when I bought these shoes. I have wide feet with high arches and these were extremely comfortable from the moment I put them on. I typically do spin and yoga classes and strictly use these shoes for walking my dogs around the neighborhood. Anywhere from 1-2 miles with lots of sniffing stops. After 4 months of having these shoes, the soles had worn down DRASTICALLY. I was shocked. On 4/26 I reached out to the Altra customer service team via email on 4/26. I sent a follow up on 5/1 after not receiving a response. Finally got a response after the second email. After answering some questions and supplying photos and details, I was offered a replacement pair. They asked for style, style, and color. I didn't receive replacement shoes until early last week, and they were not any of the ones I chose. And I found that this pair was more narrow than the ones I have. Unfortunately the ones I have aren't showing as available on their website. Hoping for a refund as I've just had to order a new pair of shoes (different brand). In the month of back and forth with them, the shoes have continued to wear down quickly, and there's about 1/8 inch of sole left in some areas. I hadn't planned to leave a negative review in case this was a one off, but considering this has taken a month and is still unresolved, I'm hoping to save someone else the trouble. Shoe would probably be great for indoor use, but certainly not for consistent outdoor use.

so comfortable!

I stand on a concrete floor almost all day at work. I always ended the day with metatarsal pain. These shoes are a total game changer! Total cushioning under the front of the foot, where I really need it. I now end the day ready to go for a hike. No pain whatsoever. Thanks to the wider toe box, they also don't pinch my feet in weird ways like most running shoes.
