So warm
I ordered a size XS and even with the tailored fit to the sweater, I still like the fit. It's meant for light layers underneath, so I can only wear a t-shirt underneath but it keeps me very warm. The more fitted structure allows me to easily layer it under a bigger coat/jacket. If you are in-between sizes (like I am) and want just a little bit more of a looser fit (like how it's pictured in the models) I would size up.
Not cut for curves
My first thought was that this runs really small, but then I realized that without breasts, it would fit me just fine. The arms, stomach and shoulders fit well but I would recommend buying a size larger if you wear a C cup or greater. The collar is also a tad too high and the sleeves too long. (I'm normally proportioned, not especially large-busted, short-armed or short-necked.) It just seems to be designed for thin, angular,l ultra-marathon body types. Also, I didn't think to confirm before buying but this has NO POCKETS. Other than that, the material is nice and I love the heathery/muted color options.
windproof and very warm!
Worn it to an overnight backpacking trip in the low 40s with lots of rain and some hail. Kept me plenty warm under the rain jacket with only a thin tank top underneath (almost too warm when I hiked hard!) Also surprised at how windproof it was. Such great quality! It is a little bulky compared to my down jacket so I probably won't bring it backpacking unless I will be wearing it most of the time, but it feels much sturdier than my down jacket and protects me better from the abrasion of my heavy pack. I bought my normal size S, it fits me well with just a tank top underneath which is what I prefer. Size up if you want more room for layering.
Patagonia is awesome
Obviously Patagonia is very high quality. I'm 5'4" 150 lbs and I got the medium. It was the right choice for me but does fit a bit snug in the hips and sleeves. Length is good. The seem running down the sleeves is a bit rough feeling against my skin. Cut isn't as flattering as it could be. I wanted the green but it was never in stock so I ended up getting the light gray. Nice and warm for winter wear.
Really itchy - beware if you have sensitive skin!
I was so excited to receive this for Christmas as I've been wanting a warm jacket to wear to work. I see people wearing these everywhere and thought it looked so sleek, and the jacket receives rave reviews. Unfortunately, the second I put this on my skin became extremely irritated. The fleece is so itchy I can't imagine wearing this all day. I will say it is warm, but wow 100% recycled polyester for an expensive jacket just for it to be uncomfortable on bare skin.. I have to return. Never post reviews but I wanted to share because nobody else seems to share this important information!
Runs pretty small!
Purchased this as a gift. Love the quality, I've never bought a better sweater for myself, so I was kind of intrigued to see what it was like. This particular fleece runs smaller than most Patagonia pieces. Got a L and on opening, decided to try it on myself. I am usually a US 4-6 and in Patagonia I'm usually a Small in zip-ups and fleeces and a Medium in all the jackets (like the Nano puff) however this Large wasn't even really that big on me and I'm only 5'4 with a flat chest and I'm pretty slim. To be safe, I have to order an XL for this gift and hope that one of them works. If you have a larger chest/thicker arms and you want to fit a t-shirt underneath, you should probably size up. It's a slim fit in more ways than one!
I like it better than I thought I would
I've used mine for a few years and have enjoyed it enough that I bought the jacket version because I wanted hip pockets and the ease of taking it on and off. While this does run slim, I personally found it true to size (5'2" 100lb with small chest, XS purchased). YMMV based on fit preference for your body type. I didn't purchase it with the intention of layering it over anything except a t shirt, which may be the limit anyway unless you size up. One thing I noticed with this pullover is that even with the zipper pulled all the way down I find it a process to pull it on and take it off the first time. It's not as bad as removing a sweaty sports bra, but when I'm tired the last thing I want to do is struggle even a little bit to remove my sweater. However, I want to stress the benefits I get from the warmth (I can wear this Fall through Spring in Northern California) and the cozy feeling a pullover provides outweigh that narrow neck opening. I could also just have a big head. It does stretch a little with wear so I find it easier to take on and off after I've removed it the first time after a wash. Subsequent wears aren't as claustrophobic affairs. I don't remember what the exact care instructions are on the label, but I wash it on cold/gentle and lay it flat to dry. After this long, it hasn't pilled at all. Like, not even a little bit. Maybe it's the air dry, maybe it's the color, maybe it's that my sweater is circa 2017 or 2018 and something's been updated since. In any case, I have not had a problem with pilling. The sweater still looks brand new. I'm also not very hard on it and try to only wash it when it starts to smell funky. I'm giving 4/5 stars because I wish the pocket was a kangaroo rather than sleeve pocket.
Great quality - flattering cut-runs a little small
Love the Piki Green color. It’s a little more jewel tone with a little bluer green than the photo shows which I like even better. the stitching quality is excellent as expected from Patagonia and the cut is flattering. I usually wear small Patagonia tops but I ended up buying this in medium. Even with just a long sleeve T underneath the small wasn’t roomy enough for me. I’m 5’6” 135lbs and usually wear size 4. Great layer for cool fall or spring weather and very comfortable.
Comfortable but PILLS BADLY!
This sweater fit me great and is warm and comfortable to wear. Great for layering. HOWEVER, I'm really disappointed by how badly the outer layer pills. I haven't even washed it yet, and already the ballies are building up wherever there is friction, for example where the sleeves rub against the sides. I have only worn it on two easy day hikes and casually around the city. I expected higher quality from Patagonia for a fleece sweater at this price point. Better own a sweater shaver if you buy this!
so warm
Love this--way warmer than I expected for the thickness. I find it similar to a wool sweater in terms of warmth. Fit is slim, which I also like. I wear S (or XS) in tops in general and ordered this in M given other reviews. Definitely the right size. I imagine I could have gotten the S on, but it probably would have been uncomfortable. Birch white is a great color for people who like black/white/grey. It's a nice heathered grey. I do find myself reaching for pockets, though, which it does NOT have, but they probably didn't inclue them in part to keep the slim profile.
