Best Bell - be wary of knockoffs
I've had the black version of this bell for four years. The bell is aesthetically beautiful, but functionally, the very best. I ride commuter trails and city streets in a university town, most often with pedestrians, skaters and others competing for the trail or road. The bell is beautiful, small but powerful and is a necessity for trails and streets like those I ride. Looks and sounds great after 4 years and I'm buying a raw one for my road bike. Be wary of the knock-offs - you really DO get what you pay for. Reviews of the MinimalX obvious cheap copy have not been complimentary. Pay for the best, be safer and keep it a lifetime.
Beautiful little bike bell.
Looks & feels well-made, nice tone -- decently loud, and definitely resonates for a while. Easily attached to my mountain bike, with the recommended 2.5-mm hex key/wrench, per Spurcycle's website video. My tip: I wrapped a layer of black electrical tape around the handlebar, so the steel fastening band wouldn't scrape the paint. Easy to use with a thumb. 'Small size, decently big "ring" to it. I'd like to see Spurcycle build a slightly bigger one, with a different tone, too -- make bicycling even more fun, ringing two different bells. :-) I feel like I got what I paid for. REI's rebate made the price even better. :-) Yes, I'd recommend this to a friend or relative.
Loud and Clear
This bell is well made and loud. Relatively easy to install somewhat adjustable. It replaced my Adjusta-bell on my gravel bike as most other trail hikers wouldn't react to it. No problem with the Spurcycle. Loud and clear.
YES! BEST! EVER!!!!
I own three of these. At first, I was like ..."$50 for a bell...heck no!"...but then I tried many of the competitions and ...yeah, not so much. So, I bought my first one of these and absolutely awesomeness and the rest is history. Each of my bikes has one of these lifetime guaranteed bells from the awesome company Spurcycle and I couldn't be happier. No, I don't work for them, but I bet it would be an awesome place to work if they are making this stuff!!
Best. Bell. Ever
Finally, REI is selling this product. I have used several bells and noise-makers on my bikes over the years, but this is the best. It emits a clear, pleasant tone that lasts for a good 10 seconds. Sometimes I ring it when no one is around just to hear the lovely pure tone. Price is not cheap, but the quality is definitely there.
Pinnacle of Bike Bells
Solid engineering, materials, & craftsmanship ... results in the best bell ever. I've cleared many a meandering pedestrians (w/ their ear buds blasting!) off the trails in plenty of time to avoid a catastrophe. The smart ones will move -- they hear you, loud and clear. Won't go back to any other bell, regardless of price point. Ordering a black one for my black MTN bike...maybe it will scare the bears too.
Spurcycle, a GREAT Bike Bell, but ...
The build quality & the SOUND of the bell are truly excellent! The sound volume packs some decibels (80s to 100 per on-line test reviews), and the tonal quality & the Duration of the sound (i.e. a VERY long finish) are EXCELLENT / A+. The fact that it is Made in America is another bonus (formerly Sausalito, CA; now Bend, OR.) My only quibble is that a $59 MSRP bell does NOT come with simple installation instructions; really?!? And I fault the manufacturer, Spurcycle, for NOT having a Support page on their website with PDF instructions if they want to opt out of including instructions with the packaging. But thankfully YouTube will come to your rescue -- I quickly found 3 installation videos, but the 1 posted by "Competitive Cyclist" is the most helpful IMO. This bike bell will be very helpful to me for safety riding on mixed-use pedestrian-bike trails in my southeastern San Francisco Bay Area location.
Sturdy, Pretty, Pleasant
Such a pleasant "ding". Sometimes I ring it when I'm by myself just for fun.
Seems costly until you realize how kill it is.
Elegant and compact. Sweet finish. Ergonomically awesome. Note is A #, the sound carries quite well. I use it on my commuter (get out da way), my MTB (blind corners and get out da way). It is superior to what else I have encountered, such that friends and the kids hear it and instantly focus on it. One refinement for the MTB is to mount it with the lever facing upward pretty close to the grip for quick thumb contact in when the surface is rough.
The best bell I have ever owned
I have tried about 20 bells and by far the best load and clear tone 3 years old now still love it
