We used this on a 1 night stay at a car camping spot to test it out before backpacking in a couple weeks. It's lightweight and super simple to set up, and easy to pack up again. The rain fly dries off quickly too. It's not quite big enough to sleep two people plus have packs or bags in the tent, but it fits both our sleeping pads and sleeping bags just fine. For the price, this tent is great. We ended up buying a blue 6' x 8' tarp from REI as a footprint (cheap and lightweight!). Doesn't fit perfectly, but we can fold up the sides a bit and make it work just fine.
I bought this tent because I needed something smaller for short hikes and canoe trips in Northern Minnesota. The day I bought it I took it up to the Gunflint Trail and pitched it in the dark. It could not have been easier or quicker. My dog and I stayed warm and dry despite an early morning thunderstorm. The vestibule is pretty small, but we were able to put all of our gear in the tent and still sleep comfortably. The tent shed the rain well and with a few shakes it was dry enough to breakdown and pack in less time than it took to set it up.
I hadn’t been camping in several years and bought this tent at the REI anniversary sale because it was reviewed well, I knew the brand and it was cheap. When I got to the camp site later that week it was dark and starting to rain, however, this tent goes up so quickly and easily that I felt like a NASCAR pit crew and the rain fly was on before the downpour reached us. Over the next three days it rained or misted and blew constantly, throughout it all the tent remained secured and dry. Other than the rain fly it was dry as a bone inside. On top of it all this tent is incredibly lightweight, so lightweight in fact that I’m inspired to try more adventurous camping trips. If you’re looking for a quality tent that provides enough room for one large adult then I don’t think you can go wrong with this tent.
This tent has been fantastic so far! I've already been on a rainy, cold, beautiful trip to several campgrounds in the Pacific Northwest and I stayed dry in my tent to whole time! This tent is a breeze to set up and breakdown -super fast! It's so lightweight that I don't feel guilty having a 'two-person' tent as a solo traveler and even though the footprint is fairly small it's completely spacious inside. It would also be enough room for two as well, but it was great to have space to lay out my things beside me each night. The only thing I would add would be the availability of a correctly footprinted ground cloth. I bought one for a different brand (bc none is available for this model) and it mostly fits but is not quite the same dimensions.
bought this during the sale for $80 because I wanted something my German Shepard and I could fit into comfortably, and did I pick the right tent! Set up is extremely easy 2 poles and some clips for basic setup with guy lines if you have the space to use them. Tent held up well to my energetic pup rummaging around in it with me. My only complaints so far are it air flow seemed pretty minimal with the fly on, even with the vent open on the fly. Also as one other said the vestibule is a little on the smaller side I don't think my camp load osprey would fit in it but it was plenty of room to keep shoes or some smaller packs. I'll be hitting the trail here in a week and I'll update with an actual field use under it but so far extremely pleased.
Not sure what the previous reviews did wrong but the rainfly attaches to all four corners and covers everything generously. I just set this tent up a couple of hours ago and it’s a breeze. If you are looking for a footprint try the REI Co op Passage 2 footprint. It’s nearly a perfect size the color matches pretty close too. I will update my review after I’ve used this tent for camping.
I took this tent on a 62 day bike ride across the US. The tent was set up continuously, day after day without a problem. I am still using this tent this summer on camping trips. I will be buying 2 more Kelty Escape 2 tents for my families Philmont Trip.
I USED MY NEW KELTY ESCAPE 2 THIS WEEKEND AND I HAVE TO SAY AFTER 7 MILES INTO THE CAMPGROUND I WASNT IN THE MOOD TO SET UP ANYTHING COMPLICATED. I WAS VERY PLEASED TO FIND THAT THIS TENT WENT UP IN ABOUT 5 MINUTED ONCE IT WAS UNPACKED. IT WAS SO EASY AND I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH THAT. I FOUND THAT THE INTERIOR WAS JUST BIG ENOUGH FOR A 6'6" 295LB MAN AND ALL MY GEAR INSIDE WITH ME. IT DID A GREAT JOB OF KEEPING OUT THE BUGS AND STAYING WARM AT NIGHT. VERY AIRY WITHOUT THE RAIN FLY AND ABSOLUTELY ZERO CONDENSATION IN THE TENT. IT WAS ALL ON THE RAIN FLY AND WENT BACK ONTO THE GROUND. ITS JUST A LITTLE HEAVY BUT NOT SO MUCH TO REALLY WARRANT THE ADDITIONAL EXPENSE OF ANYTHING LIGHTER FOR A WEEKENDER BACKPACKER. IT WAS A GREAT DEAL AS WELL ON SALE AT REI $80.00. SETUP WAS FAST AND VERY EASY, AND WHEN YOUR TIRED THAT MEANS A LOT!
Bought this in May and have used it several times, including a long weekend trip! Very spacious for one person and all my gear, easy to set up, and gets good airflow when at least one side of the rain flap is left open.
I bought this tent during the sale when it was 50% off. It was a steal at that price. I took it on an overnight backpacking trip at Harriman State Park. Setting it up was a breeze and took almost no time. It fit two adults with our packs inside, both of us are around 5'6". It started raining at night for about 4-5 hours and we were dry inside the tent. I would say the only downside to this tent is that there is no footprint for it.
