Absolutely fantastic!
I use merino wool exclusively for all socks, base layers, beanies, and any other clothing that touches the skin, so this is a staple product for me. It's absolutely perfect for removing funk (yes, which even merino will get after a week long sweaty hike, haha) while not harming the natural fibers. Instructions are on the bottle and easy to understand. Definitely recommend if you use wool products!
Cleans and refreshes merino wool base layers
I use this product to clean and enhance wicking properties for my next to skin merino wool clothing. Including socks, tops, and hats. I noticed that my wool layers are softer, cleaner and wick better when I keep them clean with Nikwax Wool Wash.
After my Summer Guiding in Alaska...
When I was able to use a washing machine this worked great. However the hand washing was not very effective. I had to use hand washing all Summer and my socks never stopped being a little stiff and smelly. My experience was really a 3-star time but since most people probably have access to some kind of machine I bumped it up a bit. Great with a machine-Fine with hand wash.
best cleaning agent
This is the best cleaning agent for Base Layers (Smart Wool and others), and wool hats and other outdoor wool wear. Read the label and see the benefits - they are all true. It is worth the cost.
Two loads per 10 oz bottle?
My go to wool wash is Ecover and like it, but I had some REI credit and decided to give Nikwax a try. My two bottles arrived earlier than scheduled from REI (thanks guys!) and on laundry day, so I loaded fired up the Speed Queen and consulted the bottle for instructions, where Nikwax lost its first star: the bottle is way heavier duty than it needs to be! C’mon Nikwax! Must the bottle be so thick that you can drive over it unscathed with a battle tank? Use less plastic! Nikwax lost its second star when I realized I would need to use HALF THE BOTTLE for my previously mentioned top loader. I reluctantly dumped about a third of the bottle in and ran my normal cycle. Unfortunately, I was again disappointed as my Tees came out not smelling fresh and clean, but rather “chemically treated.” I had high hopes for this product, but it pretty much disappointed me in every way.
Good but expensive
This is only my first impression. That said I tried it out on a load of wool socks. It seems to have done a good job and didn't leave a strong detergent smell. That one small load used 1/3 of the bottle though. I don't think I can justify using this product regularly because it isn't cost effective. I also didn't like that it recommended measuring in ml but didn't give a measuring device or even marks on the bottle to indicate quantity dispensed. I was a bit disappointed in that last part as it would seem to be an easy fix.

Makes wool better!
I’ve been using this product on my wool for years now and can’t recommend it enough. After one wash the wool feels plumped up and healthy. It’s hard to describe but it’s easy to notice. Wool is left feeling softer and more capable. I have no doubt it’s made my garments last longer and I don’t hold back on washing them regularly. Try it on your base layers, they will be noticeably less scratchy, even Marino wool as soft as it is feels better afterwards.

I use this on all my wool clothing, especially for hunting & camping! It makes a huge difference: wools are much softer & more comfortable after being washed in it. My wife has some sensitivity to wool, but after washing her clothes (socks in particular) with NikWax she can wear them without any irritation. A little goes a long ways! The large bottle lasts me almost 6 months of frequent, bi-weekly use.

Always use this for my woolens now
I love this stuff! My wool socks and baselayers feel soft and like-new after a wash with it. I'm not fond of the smell of it as it has a kind of plasticky-chemical smell but it fades pretty quickly as the clothes dry and you're left with a very faint lemon-like smell. I recommend it to all my customers!

Does a great job getting the brand new wool smell and scratchiness out of wool clothing. I use these on merino wool baselayers that tend to be scratchy when brand new. This wash does a good job of softening the material up and making them more comfortable to wear quicker.
