Great night's sleep.
I've been camping for over twenty years and used everything from thin Thermarest pads when overnight hiking camping to simple Coleman style air mattresses when car camping. It's never been a good night's sleep and it's always a compromise. I'd read about the Exped Megamat Duo and was about to pull the trigger on it when I happened to be in the REI store and an employee mentioned the newly released REI version. The R-Value rating was not as high as the Exped model (5.5 vs 9.5 for the Exped) but since I don't do winter camping it wasn't a deal breaker for me. The REI model's pillow which doubles as an inflator is an added bonus. The inflate/deflate valves work better than any other valve on any common air mattress I've even seen or used. They work as one-way valves so you aren't fighting the mattress as you are inflating or deflating. They designed the placement of the valves on the double perfectly so you won't fight the mattress when deflating it either. Fold the mattress in half and the strategically placed valves each handle the half which has been folded over; makes compressing and storing markedly easier. Gone are the nights of a deflated air mattress or the feeling of sleeping on hard pad. I just came back from two nights of desert camping and this mattress is simply a game changer. I had two of the best night's sleep while camping, ever. It truly feels like a regular mattress. Setup is super easy and it actually does self inflate to about 90%. It only took less than a dozen 'pumps' using the pillow/inflator pump to get it to my preferred firmness level. I no longer have to worry about charging the air pump or a long extension cord for the wall pump to inflate the mattress. The only down side is it does not collapse down to the size of an air mattress but a great night's sleep is worth that minor detail.

Low quality REI product
Used this about 6 times until the memory foam layer separated from the air mattress layer. Now there's a giant bulbous tumor running width size across the middle of the mattress making it very uncomfortable to lay on. Went to REI to ask for a refund or store credit, but REI's return policy is no longer what it used to be. They clearly don't stand by their products and told me to go repair it. It's literally unrepairable. I didn't mind REI co-op products because of it broke REI used to be great about replacing or fixing it, but now I'll never buy REI branded products again and I strongly recommend you don't either. Spend a few bucks more and get a product that lasts longer than a few uses.

4 months & now the Titanic of camping pads

On the positive: Extremely comfortable(when it doesn't leak). Used every day for four months (almost to the day/ delivered 3/31/21). It's used in a taco type 3person Rtt. As of last weekend I noticed the pad not keeping air. I figured the flawed valves. They're a poor design. 5 years & $360 with Rei SE sleeping pads & they have all failed this way. But with pad that wasn't the case... No this pad leaks. 50 pin hole leaks I've counted. The "x's" in the attached pics are pin hole leaks. Not all pics incl. 6 pic limit. Avoid. Get an ExPed Megamat.

Finally Amazing comfort in our Alaskan Camper

We purchased our mattress pad about 1 ½ years ago at REI’s Flagship store in Seattle. During this period we have slept on it about 14 times in our Alaskan Camper. We noted that often times by morning the mattress was void of most of the air pressure and we were only supported by the internal pad. Inflating it each day was another issue as the fill ports are both on one end, which consequently is up against the wall of the camper. I finally removed it from the camper and bought it into the house to further look for leakage. At this time I also devised a way to inflate it while it’s in the camper by way of a 90 degree PVC fitting and some plastic hose and blue tape. Next was the leakage issue. I inflated it and then made sure both fill ports were sealed all the way. By spraying the ports with a soapy water, it was quickly evident that the problem was minuscule air bubbles leaking out around the port caps. Our solution was to take Reynolds Plastic Wrap and place a small piece over the open ports and then snap closed the caps. After one week, there is no evidence of leakage. We haven’t yet spent a night sleeping on it, but it appears that this simple solution will solve our early morning wake up calls. See the attached photo’s. Note: listed user weight=2 people

Comfy with EASY deflation fix

SIMPLE DEFLATION FIX: Cut off the skinny end of 2 balloons and slip one over each valve cover. This will create a tight seal when you close the valve, which will prevent air escaping. Once I put the balloons on, no more leaks! This is a great mattress with only one real issue (deflating) that is easily rectified with the solution above, so I am taking 1 star off because of this. Lots of negative reviews due to this issue; even mine deflated in a couple hours of laying on it. Considering this is an air mattress and its one job is to hold air, I understand why an expensive deflated camping mattress would be upsetting - you had one job lol!! BUT this thing is much cheaper than the Exped MegaMat Duo 10, so to me it’s worth it to buy this mattress and use the cheap fix mentioned above. Should you have to do this after shelling out so much $$$? No. REI needs to at least try to redesign the leaky valve. There have also been reports of the Exped leaking, probably like every other air mattress ever. At least with the balloons there is an easy fix for the cheaper REI mattress! :) Several reviews complain about lack of instructions. There is an instructional video on the product page under “Photos and Videos”. Also, the side of the mattress with the valves has visual instructions printed directly on my 2019 mattress. Not sure why people are having difficulties? Overall, the specs are not exactly the same between this mattress and its competitor, which is likely why the REI mattress is slightly cheaper (plus only a 1 year warranty vs Exped’s 5). I haven’t purchased the Exped mattress so I can’t compare comfort or ease of use, but I have found the REI mattress to be extremely comfortable for camping IF you fix the deflation issue with just 2 balloons over the valve covers.

Comfortable when inflated

At first this mat was a game-changer. Super comfortable with a set of sheets in a three person tent, and I thought my camping woes were over. After the first night each use was met with a semi deflated mat in the morning - and I’ve slept on many a backpacking mat to know the difference. I’ve done several tests at home in perfect conditions and it seems that if I get the valves “just so” it will keep inflated for a night, but I’m frustrated with the unpredictable performance. I really hate to have to return this, as it’s such a waste of materials, but REI, this is a poor product and needs to be recalled until you can firm up the valve weakness.

Incredibly comfortable, but leaks air after 3 uses

This was the most comfortable couples sleeping pad ever, but after just 3 uses it started leaking air and we woke up on the ground. When we looked at reviews many months ago (that are no longer up) many others were experiencing the same issue…faulty valves maybe being the culprit. It seems like they’ve redesigned the mattress maybe? It now appears to have different valves in these updated photos. However, REI refused to replace our mattress, even with proof of purchase on our account as longtime members. This is disappointing because clearly there was some issue with the original design and this is a high priced item, not something we can easily replace.

Butterfly valves leak

I tried it out while camping as I was super pumped for something cheaper than the Exped mat, but we very disappointed when I woke up after about 4 hours and it had deflated. The next night I messed around a bit more with the butterfly valves that have a rubber gasket, making sure it was seated just right and it held air a bit better but still lost quite a bit. i ended returning it. I think it would be a great pad if they didn't try to get fancy and put the butterfly valves on the bag, just put the one-way in and out valves like exped did and it would work just fine. In the meantime, I guess I'll spend A LOT more money for the exped megamat...

Awesome!

We did a ton of research on camping air mattresses and finally settled on this one. I have used this on two camping trips (one a week long) and was so impressed! Though it inflates mostly on its own in less than an hour, if you need to inflate it from empty it takes minimal time and effort. It is SO comfortable!! It also deflates quickly (easiest if two people press on it to fully deflate). I can't feel movement when my partner rolls over. The only downside is that it is pretty big packed up (we were expecting that) so make sure you have room for it in your car! It fits perfectly in our REI Half Dome Plus tent with room for two 60L backpacks at the foot.

Should have been perfect, but isn’t.

This product is a tragedy. It’s so comfortable, inflates easily, deflates slightly less easily but it’s really no trouble, durable, spacious, everything i wanted, except.....the valves leak. There is no puncture, no damage to the valve itself, in perfect condition, but they still leak. Returns don’t work since I live in Canada, and the live chat robots were completely unhelpful with stock responses and zero knowledgeable information about their own products or suggestions for repair that I have access to. Really want to love this mattress. Any plans to remedy to the leaky valve problem? There are so many of us who want a solution to this, please please offer an update!

100% Chance of Leakage

I own two of these and both started mysteriously losing air in under a year. They are incredibly comfortable for a few sleeps, but inevitably end up losing air and there are no clear holes or leaks we can find. We take very good care of our gear, and for the price tag, you would hope that they would last longer than a few nights. I asked REI for help and advice and they said "air mattresses often develop issues" and that was it. While they are not wrong, it appears that A LOT of people are having the same issue with the Camp Dreamer Double losing air after a few uses. Based on the fact that 100% of the time they seem to lose air, I would suggest finding a different product.

As comfortable as my real bed!

Received free product

This is an awesome car camping (glamping) mattress. Without looking at the instructions, blowing it up and deflating it, seemed like a bit of a challenge. However, following the instructions and using the "pillow" to pump up the mattress was very easy. Deflating and packing up the mattress was also easy, as the stuff sack/duffle bag provided is definitely large enough to hold the mattress. I'd recommend trying everything out at home prior to your first camp trip. When this mattress is inflated, it has 4 inches of foam and air between you and the ground, which provides excellent comfort. I woke up sleeping my side, which I usually find too uncomfortable on other camp pads. After it's first night of use, I had to add a little bit of air to the mattress, but after that, it held air very well. I don't plan on bringing this mattress backpacking, since it is relatively heavy (9lbs), but I do plan on using it for all of my future car camping needs. I think this mattress has converted me to glamping!
