Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and ¾ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

The 2023 version had a great fit and quality! I am 5' 9", about 150, and wore 8 Tall. In 2024, REI made weird changes to the fit. The hip/thigh area is narrowed, and the waist is widened. Also, the fabric does not feel as durable. The 8 Tall no longer works, and the 10 Tall sags annoyingly low. In the pictures, black is 2023 and gray is 2024.
Disappointed in the new sizing & cut. I have an old pair in 18w. I couldn’t even get a size 18 past my thighs. Size 20 fit. Got them home and the old pair of 18 bought in 2023 is exactly the same as the size 20. Only difference is the 20 is 3 inches longer. This is not how you make sizes inclusive. They were also the ONLY pair of size 20 in the store. Gotta do better.
These pants are awesome! I grabbed two pair during the Labor Day sale & tried on both a 12 & 14, I’m 5’6 approx. 200lbs with thick thighs and a booty, and both fit well but the 14 was better when I sat down in them. I wore these for a 4 mile hike to test them out and they were amazing… it was a sweaty hot hike and they wicked moisture well and had no smell, I could sit comfortable cross legged at the saddle & when we got rained on they dried super fast and kept me comfortable. I loved that th material didn’t stretch out and become super baggy, they were very flattering and comfortable the entire hike! I will definitely be wearing these for climbing as well.
These pants are a keeper! I will be buying more pants, in every color. This color is called olive. It is brighter than I expected, but I love it. Not that matching clothes is a necessity on the trail, gray, black and bright blue go well with these. Every pocket is DEEP and fits an iPhone 13 securely. I love that the two hip pockets are lined with mesh. The zippers (both front and side) slide easy and stay up. I like that the button is a button and not a snap, as it feels more secure. There are also belt loops. I don't usually wear a belt, but it a nice feature in case one does wear a belt. There is also a draw string, but I didn't feel the need to use it. The length of these pants is spot on and has a drawstring at the bottom to keep stuff out of your pants. I have thick thighs and there is nothing worse than having pants that are too tight in the thighs. These are perfect. I am 5'6", 160 lbs. and they are a PERFECT fit (these are a size 12). Since it was 20Ëš I wore my wool base layer underneath. I was warm in just these two layers while hiking. These are the best pants I have EVER owned. The only thing I would change would be to add an additional side pocket on the left and one of the back pockets with a zipper.
The Trailmade pants really changed my prospectives on the sports technology! I used to think any sporty hiking pants which usually are polyester/nylon would make me uncomfortable and cotton was good material. But I wore these pants for 2 weeks in New Zealand end of Feb and beginning Mar, they are so comfortable during all our hikes( almost 100 miles total with 4500 feet elevation gain in lots of the hikes) at both North and South islands. I would say this is the golden standard. I even enjoyed wearing them at none hiking time. They are light, dry fast, water resistant, keep my temp regulated well, washed well and no problem in the clothes dryer. They are good for at least 3 seasons except cold winter, I wore a wool blend base layer under it at our cold hikes ( mid 40s-60s F for me), did not feel under dressed. Excellent choice for our hikes!
I bought 2 pairs of hiking pants for a trip to the smokies and these are the clear winner. They are lightweight and when we got caught in a rain shower, they dried very fast and didn't weigh me down. The are great for wicking away sweat and legs roll up easily for foot soaks in the creek. Front pocket easily fits my phone which I love, since the size zipper pocket is a bit of a reach when I want to quickly grab it for a picture. The drawstring helps tighten them up if they start sagging after wearing for a while. I recommended these to my mom and I'll recommend them to you too!
I love these pants so much! I just finished a 400 mile section hike and wore these pretty much most days. Great for sun protection, great for a bit of warmth, they are an all around GREAT pair of pants! I bought the green. Love the turquoise details. I need other colors now. I'm usually a size 4, but got the 6 because I wanted them a bit loose. That was a great decision. And the drawstring was perfect when they got a bit looser as I dropped some pounds on the trail. No belt needed. Love the cinch ties on the ankles, too. I definitely recommend this item for any hiker.
I haven’t been a fan of the slim leg hiking pants until these. Fabric is light and comfortable. Love the side zipper pocket and deep back and side pockets. I purchased the green which is a stunning color. I’m normally between small and medium in bottoms (range from 4-8 ) purchased in 8 but only because I have belly swelling due to a current medical issue and let me tell you…the elastic in the back is a game changer!! They feel so comfortable, I didn’t want to take them off. My current waist is 32, my height is 5’3 and the regular size was a tad long but not a deal breaker. I wish the orange color was still available. I haven’t tested them out on the trails yet, so can’t say how they’ll hold up. Still, I’m happy with my purchase.
AMAZING PANTS! Very Durable! Our neighborhood recently had a tornado go through. I've spent the last two days cleaning up the aftermath. No rips, no tears. Very light weight material, even though it was hot, I wasn't hot. My legs were protected. Can't wait to order another pair.
I absolutely love these pants and am about to order another color! My 5 stars is rounded up from 4.5 -- if I could change 2 things, I would (as at least one other reviewer mentioned) add another zipper pocket on the left leg and add a zipper to one of the back pockets. It sounds like many people are able to order these pants in their regular size. I am 5'4" and a curvy/pear fit - usually about a size 8-10 in a curvy fit. In these pants, the 12P fit me best. They are the first hiking/paddling pants I have wanted to just wear around wherever due to their comfort and great fit!
