Great Pad
The reviews on here stating that it is too hard to roll up should not be camping. If you cant roll this up then you probably cant roll your sleeping bag up or your tent for that matter. It literally look me 1 minute and a half to pack it up. And as for the self inflating, no it doesn't completely self inflate. But when it fills itself you're like 4 medium breaths away from filling it up with air(wow super difficult, even in higher altitudes its easy). And yes the 1 way valves work properly, if they don't then you have a faulty pad. It all comes down to comfort, which I think this pad is great and for its price too. So if your not a newbie consider this pad.

Caused me great pain... and enlightenment?
I brought this product with me on a several week expedition. It lasted a single night before somehow being punctured ( was not sleeping on particularly jagged ground). I located what I thought was the only hole, patched it, and then went on to find at least 6 more holes over the next several days. I couldn't find them all by the time I replaced the pad after two weeks. It was extremely disappointing and became hazardous when it was hard to keep warm at night. However. There was one positive aspect to this sleeping pad, which is why I would like to award it with an extra star. In eventually being forced to accept the state of my tragic pad during those 16 frigid nights, I came to welcome the experience of discomfort with open arms. In doing so, I felt my anxiety dissipate. Gone were the days when attempting to fix the sullen pad consumed my waking hours, eventually replaced with the nightly slogan of another day another hole, capped off by a chuckle. This understanding of temporary discomfort and surrender to experience lent me a type of freedom from constricting and time consuming thoughts. So that was okay.

Leaks after 3 uses

Paid the $100 premium price for REI brand, because I take care of gear and use it a long time Pad leaked on third trip, was flat and useless in 2 hrs. Three miserable nights on the trail. I used soap bubbles to find a leak along seam, indicating a clear manufacturer defect. The unit looks brand new and was not punctured by a rock or other misuse. REI refusing to help sighting strict 12 month return policy. Bunk. I'm back to using my 25 year old rectangle pad, that one holds air just fine after all these years. Woefully disappointed in REI.

Excellent Durable Functional Pad

I have been a professional in the outdoor industry for decades. I've spent hundreds of dollars on top end sleep pads by the top name brands and have been failed all along with poor designs or inadequate materials. This is a No Frills old fashioned material solid durable and reliable sleep pad for a really really inexpensive price. Unfortunately the outdoor Community is flooding with novices and inexperienced idiots who seem to express that they have opinions on how things work. You must learn how to use the valve and it's pretty simple because the instructions are printed right on the Sleep Pad. This is a phenomenal product.

overall very good design = a good nights sleep

I have tried several pads and this seems to be the best for me. I don't like the air mattress feel since it doesn't support my body very well when I move to different positions. This pad is a combo of foam and air so its a nice balance between comfort and support. I move around a lot when I sleep so the rails are just enough too keep me on it. For me, that's the best part. It self inflates to about 1/2 way and 4-5 breathes makes it just right. It's not an ultra light but it's worth the extra weight. The material seems tough, has good insulation and is quiet. I hated the Nemo air pad because it made a crunching noise.

Try it for yourself...

These reviews are all over the place. It just goes to show, you need to try this stuff out for yourself. After trying every single pad in REI, I chose this one based on comfort and price. I’m a side sleeper and feel fully supported on this pad. I love the side rails for keeping me tucked in while sharing a tent with a friend. And I find this pad very easy to pack up... I’m not sure where the negative reviews on packing are coming from. I just open the valve, roll it up, tie it up, and literally “slip” it in to it’s bag with room to spare.

Very comfortable

I have been very happy with this sleeping pad. The rails do an excellent job keeping me in place and also double as a support for my phone! There was a few months this year when I was in between places and didn’t have a bed so I used my sleeping pad and Nemo Disco 30 sleeping bag. I slept great! It says it’ll inflate on its own and maybe it would if you left it alone for a while but I just blower up the old fashioned way. It’s not difficult and doesn’t require much effort. Once you inflate it, it holds the air pressure very well. I don’t have experience with other sleeping pads but I do really like this one!

Super comfortable,,, doesn't last long

Very comfortable! I sleep fantastic on it. Ill tolerate the weight and size for a good nights sleep. But, it doesn't hold up! First one died at rail seam after 10 nights. Replacement leaked at same point after 15 nights, but I fixed it. Now after 30 more nights, the skin is delaminating from the inner pad and becoming a bubble. I WILL try the new one, but really disappointed with the life span.

Great product!

I really don’t know why there are so many less-than-great reviews of this pad. I was honestly a little worried when I bought it because of how many subpar reviews there are. The valve is very easy to use. There’s even a diagram printed right next to it so I don’t understand how so many people on here couldn’t figure it out. I’m sure if people could get reviewed, they’d get a one-star instead of the pad. Anyway, I own two of these and love them. Extremely comfortable, easy to use, and durable. Highly recommended for the price point!

Surprisingly Comfortable

I never thought I'd be writing an online review for a self-inflating air mattress, but 2020 has been a pretty weird one. Previous inflatable pads I've owned basically lose air slowly...or rapidly...overnight, so I tend to stick to foam sleeping pads. I decided to take a gamble on this little guy as a means of using up some coop dividends. I honestly didn't expect much, but this convenient little jerk packs tight, holds air when inflated, and sleeps pretty comfortably on the forest floor. I hoped at best that I could use this as a spare when I camp with unprepared friends, but it looks like this pad is now part of my primary loadout. Couldn't be happier to be wrong in my judgment about a product.

Arthritic old man slept comfortably

I had a foam sleeping pad but wanted a more compact inflatable sleeping pad to use when backpacking. A trip to paddle on the Little Tennessee River in North Carolina for three days was the a good enough reason to make the purchase. I'm getting a little older and have arthritis so really only can sleep on my left side. I was surprised how much cushioning the REI AirRail provided. I could sleep on my side comfortably and when I rolled over at night the rails really kept me from rolling off the mattress. As I rolled the air in the mattress would shift to the rails even more to keep me from rolling off. I was pleasantly surprised by the mattress overall performance and would recommend it to others.
