Great hiking aid
I got these upon recommendation from my Daughter. We were taking a trip to the beach and I was concerned about walking in the sand with my bad hip. These poles are lightweight, easily adjustable, packable and did a fantastic job jor me. I've already recommended them to others.
They're a keeper and work great on the trail
I previously had the REI Flash carbon poles which I LOVED. So when they broke going downhill, I needed a replacement. I considered another set of carbon poles but decided on aluminum because I'd rather have a bent pole on the trail if something were to happen again. How did I land on the Black Diamond Trail? I love the foam grip. While I know they get a little slippery when wet and wear down quicker than cork (unfortunately), they feel great while hiking. My only complaint is that pole manufacturers need to make a softer grip top. When going downhill, I like to put my palm on the top of the pole and all these hard rubber & plastic tops just make it a little harsher of a feel. At least these poles have a SLIGHT amount of give to them, unlike the Leki brand. When these poles are collapsed, I do wish they were a little shorter to help with storage on my backpack. To expand them, it's quite straightforward: choose your total length as marked in both sections. The quick clips work well. And it's nice you can adjust with a screwdriver if they start to loosen too much. The last reason I chose these is their weight seems like the lightest pair - surprisingly - compared to other brands, including some of the carbon poles. I've only gone out once with these, but I am happy overall.
Just a great Trekking Pole!
I bought two pairs of these about a year ago and have now started to use them extensively for any long or difficult hike, especially where I'll be using a backpack. Just picked up a third pair for my father. They are light weight and easy to use. Construction is simple and quality is great. I'd recommend these to anyone looking for an affordable pair of trekking poles.
Great poles -- good value
My girlfriend and I, both 60ish bought these for snowshoeing (hiking in the summer) and are very pleased. They are durable and easy to use and really help with balance on uneven terrain. Very simple to adjust, but would recommend reading simple instructions as you may need to tighten an adjusting screw to prevent the locks from slipping prior to us (saw another review where pole slipped because they failed to make this adjustment before using).
Beware: No Replacement Tips
Excellent poles, from easy adjusting straps, to strong, lightweight shafts and reliable quick releases. Unfortunately, the tips, when they break, are not replaceable. I've broken 3 tips and my sister has broken 1 tip. I just broke another tip on today's hike and will be switching to a different manufacturer. I'm embarrassed to say it took me this long to discover that other companies make replacement tips for similar poles in the same price range. Black Diamond should follow suit. I have a collection of Black Diamond poles in my basement that are unusable.
Nothing to complain about.
I purchased these last minute after my pair of no-name trekking poles kicked the bucket right before a backpacking trip. I've only used them for one trip so far--four days in the High Uintas Wilderness Area in Utah. I had no problems with them and found them to be very comfortable to use. They are easy to adjust, and light (compared to the poles they replaced). Would definitely recommend.
Poles that outperform.
Phenomenal pair of poles. They are super easy to use, extend, store, and are super durable and trustworthy. I've used these for over three years now hiking (over rock, ice, snow, mud, water, etc.), mountaineering, and snowshoeing. I love the closure system where you simple pop open the latch, extend, and close it. The poles stay put wherever you set them to, even with weight applied. I've banged them on rocks, fallen with them, dropped them, loaned them to my family members, and still perform impressibility well. The hard spike on the bottom is incredibly strong too and after miles and miles of grinding them on rocks, they still look nearly new. The basket system is also very easy with a simple screw on/off and I've never lost a basket. The handles are comfortable as well as the straps. I love how the handles also have an extended cushion down the pole so that in the even where you need a "shortened" pole, you can just grab lower really quick and push yourself up. Thanks BD for truly an amazing piece of equipment!
Light, sturdy and effective
I’ve used these poles twice now, after trying quite a dated (but tough) pair of MSR poles from a friend. They are nice and light, the flick lock is easy to use and tight, and the tips were solid on ground as well as rock. Telescopic adjustments were perfect for my height (5ft6). I mainly mountain hike at the moment, so great on the way up for balance and force, and a saving grace on the way down over tricky boulder fields, rocky descents and the odd creek. My friend’s poles (not Black Diamond) snapped on the way down and mine held out no problem! A trail runner maybe want something even lighter like the distance range or carbon, but I like the feel of some sturdiness to it with the terrain I’m hiking. Also, the extended grip material is so handy for quick changes in incline, a great feature!

Great trekking pole
These trekking poles performed very well. I have used them on numerous hikes, to include the lower half, or non-technical part of the climb of Mt. Rainier. They stowed well when and survived the abuse of being strapped to the outside of my pack for the rest of the climb. I also used them on the rim-to-rim hike of the Grand Canyon. Make sure you purchase the appropriate baskets for the hike on which you intend to use them. Also, check the friction locks before you head out on your first hike. They may need slight dialing in, or tightening with a standard Phillips screwdriver. Quality Black Diamond gear as always.

Good for money!
Did not expect the handles to be so slippery, probably should’ve gone for cork
