Excellent Design Evolution
I bought this to replace an original Big Zip reservoir. The two biggest improvements that alone make it worth the upgrade are the improved bite valve and the relocation of the hose attachment point to an area higher on the bag. The bite vale really does make a difference. Getting water out of this is no longer the reverse of inflating a NeoAir. The use of an extension to move the drinking hose attachment point to the top of the bag is genius. It allow you to put the filled bag in your pack and then route the hose through any guides on your shoulder strap before attaching it to the bag. It's a lot more convenient. I'm not sure how this affects cleanabilty. I use only water and rinse and then store the reservoir and hose in the freezer (in a OP bag) between uses. One thing I'd like to see is for Platypus to include their bite valve cover. It can't be more than $1 to produce and given the price of this reservoir, should really be standard equipment.

First time out LEAKING
I’m doing a long hike today. I filled up my platypus while in my backpack and there was water all over everything. I pulled it out and the stem is cracked. I’m taking it back to REI tomorrow and am grateful I have backup bottles to carry. I’m annoyed because I bought this because it was highly recommended. I hope the replacement one works. Frustrating!!!

High hopes, disappointing quality

Got this for my honeymoon 1.5 years ago, it was great for a few trips and now is only fit to use around the house (I keep my mine hanging by the handle near my desk so I don't hae to constantly refill a water bottle while WFH). The inner walls completely separated from each other, meaning there's no inner support for the bag. The bite valve is about to be replaced a *second* time from wear out and the handle on the valve started breaking today, which led me to look for replacements and leave this review. I wanted to like this bag. When it was in good shape, it fit nicely in my bag and it holds a lot of water and has good flow, but at this point I'm not sure I'd buy it again.

Allows me to go the distance

I used this item multiple times per week for 1 year with no issues until the ‘spine’ came loose while cleaning just after my one year mark of purchase passed. It did a great job until then with no issues but I expect it to last longer than one year for the price. I contacted Platypus but no response yet. I did purchase another one so I guess it didnt deter me too much. It’s easy to use, easy to clean, no weird taste, and I’ve never had a leaking problem. Make sure you put the hoses back together correctly and don’t just slide the top on without ‘zip locking’ the two sides together...I’m guessing those two things have contributed to others reports of leaking issues.

Some great features but one major design flaw

No plastic water taste, great flow and awesome improvement on the bite valve BUT water stays in the fixed hose on the back after you’re done using it and it’s a pain to get the water out so it doesn’t get too funky. The old version had the hose valve at the bottom which never allowed water to sit unless you left the hose on. I wish you guys made the old version with the new bite valve, that would be the magic recipe.

Centre baffle split?

In general I am happy with the bladder, no leaks and tasted good from the start so quite happy. Main bad point is the centre baffle has come apart at the bend so it fills like one big balloon. I should have returned it at the time but I thought it was a feature and I could re attach it whenever I wanted to, but now that I want to I've discovered it doesn't re attach. I'm sure I remember something about expanding it for more volume, but can't find anything on it now, and now it takes up to much room in my new bag so it's a bit useless. I like it apart from that tho but can't rate higher as can't use ot. I only use water in it so cleaning easy

What an improvement

Needed a new hydration bag to hike the Inca Trail. REI sales associate introduced me to Platypus (had used Camelbacks for years). Loved everything about this bag especially the grip that allows for one-handed fill-ups. There is nothing about his bag I would change - perfect.

Best Water Reservoir Ever

I bought my first platypus several years ago for a backpacking trip to replace my Camelbak and ever since then, I have been sold on it's rock solid performance!!! I was so impressed with it, that I bought 3 more for my children. They have never leaked. Good tough, but flexible construction. Easy to access, fill or empty through the top zipper, unlike many other brands. And real added plus...super, easy to clean and dry!!! I would definitely buy again or recommend to a friend.. It is a shame that REI is not selling the 3L version as I'm in the market for one for another one of my children.

Fills easily, seems durable

Wide mouth fills easily, and sliding clip seals it securely. Detachable hose makes it easy to fill without the hose getting in the way. Seems durable, though I’ve only used it for two weeks.

Not the best

Got this updated version to replace my old Platypus Reservoir. It was great at first. It is easy to clean with the big opening, long hose and no leaking. Then it became difficult to ziplock, the mouthpiece lever was difficult to open/close and the middle divider in the pouch detached. I will be replacing this one with another brand.

dangerous design flaw

The first time I used this the tube pulled off of the bladder in my pack and spilled the whole 2L. The design of the tube attachment is not secure enough to prevent this. Thankfully this was a *short* desert hike but obviously you want to depend on your hydration system and you shouldn’t depend on this one.
