Works so far as advertised

I have a pair of hiking boots that were advertised as waterproof but wearing them in the rain revealed otherwise. They are a typical leather toe/heal with fabric upper. I was able to treat both boots with 1 bottle and have enough for a second treatment. Haven't had them out in the rain but standing in the shower with them on didn't reveal any leaks. We'll see what the first backpacking trip turns out like

Made my boots like new

Bought this and the Nikwax cleaners for full grain leather and suede to clean our boots after a week in the cascades. I also took some older boots that were in pretty rough shape to see if they could be cleaned up and re-waterproofed. I was amazed at the results. The newer boots were cleaned up, all the volcanic ash was cleaned away and the boots looked great again. The waterproofing was as good as new or slightly better. The astonishing thing was how well the old boots looked after cleaning and waterproofing. Water was beading up on the oldest pair like they were new and were cleaner than they had been in years. I followed the instructions to the letter and both cleaned and waterproofed to get the results I did.

Worth Understanding Nikwax

Water is bigger than air. For newcomers to the Nikwax system, the starting point is to understand that H2O is blocked by the molecular barrier Nikwax installs, while air passes comfortably thru; BOTH WAYS. This means, you can clean, condition and wax all in the same wetting, with no dry time and your footwear and other gear will dry thru the wax layer. It also means that surprisingly durable and long-lasting Nikwax continues keeping moisture out while allowing your sweat to evaporate, AND to dry well overnight.

Exactly what I was looking for

Bought this waterproofing spray to waterproof (2) old pairs of hiking boots that I was repairing and (1) pair of breathable fabric tennis shoes. Worked like a charm! With my tennis shoes they kept the water out but the fabric still breathable. Before I used the spray, my shoes would get soaked just from walking in dewy/wet grass. I sprayed this on prior to a trip to the snow and it held up great! Even walking through snow in fabric shoes my feet were dry and warm, but not stuffy. As you can imagine the effect was even better on both my Goretex and my leather hiking boots. I do feel that the spray darkened the color, (which I expected and actually kind of was hoping for), so I do recommend trying the spray out on a concealed area if that is a concern to you. About 6 months later I do feel the waterproofing is starting to wear off a little, but still holding up to my personal needs. I would imagine I'd consider reapplying every year or so.

Old Boots Like New

I used this product to re-waterproof my old Salomon hiking boots in preparation for hiking in a wet environment (Iceland). It worked perfectly. Not a drop of water got inside.

No more soggy feet

Used this along with the footwear cleaner to revamp the waterproofness of my Fiveten bike shoes. After a full season of riding, they started to soak up the mud and water like a sponge! After cleaning out the dirt and spraying the waterproofing, they are back to normal and my feet are happy and dry once again! Thanks Nikwax, stoked on dry feet!

Very easy to use and worked well

Applied this to my Timberland Mt. Maddsens to improve their water resistance after 3 years of use. Tried the boots in extremely wet temperate rainforests in southern Chile and the spray noticeably improved how water beads and sheds off the boots. I clearly missed a small spot near the front of my right boot that wasn't beading water remotely as well as the rest of each surface.

I swear by this stuff. Use it on my hiking boots and it’s indestructible- walking through water to cross streams and tides. Completely dry! Been using it for many years.
