Fantastic Paddle!
I purchased this paddle as an upgrade to my starter paddle (the one most highly-rated for beginners, with aluminum shaft and plastic blades). I saw one in a shop last summer, and fell in love just holding it in my hands. It just felt right. The same shop had another, similar paddle from the other big brand, and it just didn’t feel quite the same. So I used a gift card that I received as a retirement gift from work and ordered from REI in the spring. I LOVE it! Light, stiff, comfortable in my hands. Absolutely love the design of the connection/feathering joint. I like it so much I bought Hubby one for our anniversary.
Excellent high end paddle
I recently used this paddle for a 1,000+ mile paddling expedition in Africa. Several hundred thousand strokes later, it's good as new, and my backup paddle remains completely unused. This paddle is durable, light, has a low swing weight, doesn't flutter, and looks cool. I was paddling 10-12 hours a day, and this paddle played a huge role in keeping me fresh and going strong hour after hour. If you are serious about paddling and want a light, high performance paddle, this is the one for you. Expedition tested and approved.
Exceeded my expectations
I'm a long time paddler of another brand, but I liked the look of the new Aquabound paddles I saw at canoecopia, so I figured I'd give it a try. I have been out on my local lakes three times and been really impressed so far. It's surprising how good the blue patterns looks on the water with the reflection from the sun. On our most recent trip, my wife used the paddle the entire time because of how light it is compared to her paddle. I havent noticed any wobbling or fluttering, so the paddle is definitely holding up well.
Performance and Comfort
As a watersports enthusiast I know how important it is to have a good paddle! This, is a GREAT paddle. A quality low angle paddle that is both lightweight and comfortable! This is a paddle that would make any paddler happy to use for a long day on the lake. I love how adjustable the feathering is for those windy days, not to mention the two piece design. Makes this paddle perfect for traveling! Personally I am also a big fan of the blue and lime green colors!!! All in all this is the best kayak paddle for the price!
Great for the right paddler!
I am rating this well, because I think it will be a great paddle for the right person. Effortlessly lightweight, the carbon texture on the shaft is great to keep the paddle in place in the event your hands get wet. Blades are also a comfortable size for leisure paddling. With that said, the paddle did not work for me. I tried 6 ways from Tuesday to keep the paddle from grabbing so much air but failed whole-heartedly. The paddle would either create a tornado of air off the tip of the blade, or it would sound like it was blowing bubbles in chocolate milk. With that feeling, it made me believe I was losing efficiency of my paddle stroke. I have a Bending Branches Angler Navigator Plus, and I don’t have that issue at all. My conclusion is the dihedral of the blade on the Tango is causing the vortex of air where the Angler Navigator has no dihedral at all. To reiterate, it will be a GREAT paddle for the right person. But, I wanted to share my honest experience!
Arrived worse for wear
REI needs to work with fulfillment to do better job picking and packing. The paddle sent to me has quite a few scratch marks - some on blade backs pretty bad. I’m not sure if used or just badly stored or fell out and was shoved back in transit. The box was open on top and semi crushed with about 4 sheets of packing paper - not exactly protected. I’d return but that’s a giant hassle for me and not sure who would pay or if replaced product would be any better by time it arrived. It’s usable. Just disappointed.
