Great Shoes but Hard on Socks
These are some of the most comfortable shoes I've ever had. The grip on slickrock surfaces gives me the confidence to climb the steeper slopes. These are the shoes that I wear most often. The only reason they aren't getting 5 stars is because the mesh tongue lets in a lot of sand and debris, and I often need to take them off and shake them out mid-hike. Because of that, they're very hard on socks.
Loved Until...
I honestly wish these has worked out! They had great grip on every surface - snow, rock, wet rock, dusty scree, you name it. Unfortunately as someone else mentioned, the tongue does not stay centered and ends up feeling like a hard rock on the outside of your foot. Returned because of that. They fit great, and worked great with crampons and for kick stepping. On the hunt for something almost identical but with a less invasive tongue!
Good walking shoe, but...
These shoes are fairly comfortable for walking around town. I have two issues with them, however. 1. The tongue doesn't stay centered; it always moves to the outside of my foot; this is annoying and can be a bit uncomfortable after walking for a few hours. 2. Some of the metal eyelets have separated from the shoe; I've only had the shoes a few months. I expected better from the Scarpa brand.
comfort
Low volume shoe and good for low mileage ( 3-4 miles) hiking on compact dirt, pavement, concrete and rocky trails. Cannot add comfort insole if needed. Shoe has close fit
Comfort and support
I must have ordered every single approach, trail and hiking shoe REI offers. These have been perfect for day to day on cold days, perfectly comfortable right out of the box. I did add super feet insoles for pronation correction and didn’t have to trim them. Can’t wait to hike with these!
Great for scrambling, but tongue moves!
I ended up returning these after doing a scramble and hike in them. The tongue kept moving and was very uncomfortable. They were nice as far as climbing up rocks, but overall I didn’t like them.
Terrible Laces
The shoes are great, I have the leather Scarpa hikers also. I've only had them a month and the laces broke already. I just retired a pair after 4 years of another brand and the laces were still fine. Other than the laces I love the shoes. If you buy these be prepared to have spare laces available. I'm only thankful I wasn't out on a big hike when they broke.
Fat tongue
The tongue of this shoe is so fat it pinches the top of your foot and hurts so bad! Also the laces go all the way to the top which make the shoe hard to tighten properly. Nice color.
Great Shoe!
These shoes changed my life! I didn't think a shoe could make such a huge difference preventing slipping. They are a touch warm, but that doesn't bother me too much.
great shoes
good shoes bought for my daughter comfortable right away no break in period
