I use them every single day for walking since I have balance problems. I've put plenty of weight on them slipped and caught my self countless times I'm not running but a slow walk. Over 1300km worn out many of the rubber tips 7 pairs easy to change used the carbon tips but the rubber works better I find. They do slip on waxed floors though. They're fairly durable and I'm surprised other people broke them gotten as I have them stuck in holes on rocks plenty of times. proably since I'm walking and not running they haven't broken. They told easy and unfolding them is great I have the aluminium version as well and I find the carbon ones work better
I had the aluminum version - which the airline lost, so I took the money (after a 4 month battle) and upgraded to the FLZ carbon poles. The aluminum version is brilliant. I use them on rough terrain and steep descents and otherwise they fold up quickly and easily and are quick to set up at my exact height. Carbon does that but is lighter... right? After a few weeks of use the pin that locks their height was acting like a splitting wedge and crunching through the carbon. I contacted black diamond (I was mid way into a 1 month hike) and they said "tough". Luckily I had purchased them at REI and exchanged them for the aluminum version. Which is slightly heavier but 100% more crack free.
So far - so good. Used first time on Bootjack at Mt Tams by both me and my daughter. We both like how light weight they are and how they fold up for stowage in the backpack. The adjustability is key as the poles can be fine tuned to each of our heights and for the terrain (whether going up or going down). The light weight also provides for a less tiring hike as the poles are easy to swing out with a flick of the wrist.
I like the Black Diamond carbon fiber poles for their light weight and for the Z-fold construction that makes them easy to pack for travel. I needed to replace my old fixed length Black Diamond Ultra carbon fiber that finally got caught between a rock and a hard place, well, it got run over by a car. I hike with a 115cm pole, while my wife is shorter and needs 105cm. We hike with one pole each, for steep terrain up and down; we like to keep one hand free. Poles are sold in sets of two. The FLZ pole was the perfect solution, light weight carbon fiber, Z-fold, adjustable length 105-120cm, one each for me and my wife. We have two good hikes with them so far, and the poles are proving to be solid and easy to use.
Not much to say here really. These are light, easy to carry, does the job. Well made and BD's customer service is top notch. Make sure you buy the latest revision not the old stock. The new revision has the lock portion re-engineered with a ring of re-enforcement. My old one died exactly be cause the pressure induced cracking, however the new one sent to me by Black Diamond is very solid. If there's anything else, the little knuckle used to hold sections together when folded could be more tight but this is trying to be picky, nothing major.

I have enjoyed Black Diamond products for years but have never purchased their trekking poles before. With a recent move to Alaska and steeper terrain, it became apparent that perhaps the time had come to jump on it. I had done my research and most everything pointed back to these. I have used them for several days on end without a glitch. The SlideLock is a breeze and unless your hands are really cold and wet it releases very easily as well. They are extremely lightweight and appear very durable. I have not had any issues whatsoever to date. They are just as advertised. Quickly adjustable even while on the move and can be broke down into their trifold configuration while on the run and stored into a running vest without stopping. Great poles from a great company.
I absolutely love these. I’m in New Hampshire and just completed 3 days of hiking up and down mountains with them. They save my (artificial) knees on the uphills and downhills and preserve my balance perfectly. They’ve revolutionized hiking, which is now much easier! They’re very light and fold up into 3 segments; they fit in a suitcase easily. But they snap together in 5 seconds. They are truly life-changing. And not just for seniors; my grown-up son, who can scamper up Mt Whitney, got a pair and loves them.
I'd had these for a couple of years before using them much. Last week I took them on several day hikes in the White Mountains and one of them snapped on the third day of real use, working downhill on a rocky trail caught between two rocks.
Really love using these things. I've taken them on some pretty rugged runs and so far they have held up no issues. They fit almost anywhere on the running pack, and fold up nicely when not in use. Rapid deployment is easy with them too, making it nice to not have to stop to adjust. Have yet to see the durability, but so far they are holding up pretty well. Switched out the tips after the first run because the plastic/ rubber tips liked to slip off some rocks.
