From the selection experienxe with helpful store employees, to the fitting, to the true test of taking this beast up the mountain loaded, i cannot say enough good things. When I was out to get a pack there were some other brands that i was interested in. This pack wasn't exactly the color I wanted, or necessarily the brand I was looking for. The initial fitting however, changed my mind. The hip straps on this one fit perfectly for my body shape. There are a multitude of adjustment options. Lots of alternative pathways to access your stuff. It weathered quite well in deep snow while keeping everything dry and safe. Would recommend without hesitation.
Whether you need to head out on the Appalachian Trail or for those pack of smokes and never look back at the horrible decisions you’ve made in your life and leave it behind, this pack can fit your life in it! Fits the frame just right with tons of pockets! Who doesn’t love pockets? The inside bladder pouch (which is a drawstring backpack) removes for an easy to use day pack for quicker get aways or a great way to collect fresh spring water for your camp. The size is wonderful to fit all your needs with easy access zippers so you don’t have to pull everything out of the bag just to get to the bottom. Pack up for a few nights or head out like Alexander Supertramp, this bag is a hands down must for all your adventures!
This pack has every little feature/pocket that you need while backpacking. I was a little unsure of the price and whether or not it would be worth it at first. However, my fiancé bought the off brand equivalent to this pack at the same time and we tried them out together. The Gregory DEVA surpassed her choice by far. She ended up returning hers and buying a Gregory DEVA for herself. My favorite features are the shoulder straps, lumbar support, water bottle pocket, and the bungee trap on the shoulder strap. But there are many more wonderful features. I went on to buy my younger sister and niece Gregory wander packs for their birthdays as well and they both love them.
Purchased at local REI. Initially, too long for torso; swapped after a week or two for shorter one. Recommend measurements and extra buckles.Good pocket-access and rain cover. Recommended by several female packers. Am short waisted; traded volume for comfort...Trained with this pack. Took pack on CT, AT and local hikes in Texas. Easy to adjust. Built for female body. Carries everything ok and comfortable. Mesh side pocket useful for quick H20. Place clothing in plastic bags. Added REI glow in dark pulls; plastic hip pockets get stiff when cold; consider pockets on clothing; for small items; otherwise does the job comfortably. it's a dear friend.
I have taken this pack on three multi day backpacking trips. It is very comfortable for the weight I carry which is typically 30-35lbs. I only get some rubbing on one hip which is not unusual. I like all the adjustment points. I also love the number of storage pockets and that it can open from the side so I don’t have to unpack the whole thing to get something from the middle or bottom of my pack. What I DON’T like is that I have to use the side water bottle storage for my phone. The hip pockets feel completely useless, like seriously WHAT were the designers thinking?!?! I essentially never use these things because they are so small. Maybe they could hold a protein bar and some chapstick? Also while I like the day pack, it is already falling apart and this makes me nervous about the durability of the entire pack. Sadly, I would probably not buy this pack again and I will suffer through the annoyances I have with it.
This bag is pretty perfect. I went into REI for a different pack and luckily it was suggested I try this one on also. The arm straps are more comfortable than the one I went in for, which was a big deal while backpacking. The bag is sturdy and fits so much very easily. Lots of straps outside to help you pack it in tight and straps outside for extra items to mount to the pack.
This is my first backpacking pack, and so far I've only used it once, for a weekend out and back trip. Being that I'm new to this, I'd say that this pack is pretty great for me! It was comfortable, easy to adjust, and carried the weight very well once *I* was used to it. I love all of the pockets and ease of accessibility to things that I need. I don't like that the hip belt pockets are not large enough to fit my cell phone, which seems to be an ongoing issue with all packs, regardless of brand, but it is what it is. I plan to get a lot of use from this pack, so maybe my thoughts will change as I do, but right now, I love it!
I have the 2016 version of this pack as my first backpacking pack. It's been on a few overnighters as well as traveled out of the country with me. The thing that sold me on this pack was the amazing low back support. I love that it feels like my spine and my back are comfortably supported. Very comfortable carrying heavy loads over varied terrain. With the low back support, I feel like the weight is really carried primarily on my hips, rather than my shoulders. Also fits a ton of gear although I did have to take the sleeping bag divider out in order to fit my down bag, even in it's compression sack. Highly recommend
I went to REI a couple times to be fitted for a backpack and eventually landed on this one. I was excited about it but after taking it on a trip in the high sierras I decided to return it. The pack has way to many unnecessary pockets/clips/straps/etc. and is way to heavy. Also, even after adjusting and repacking on trail multiple times, it felt like the weight of the backpack was pulling back on me through the shoulder straps which was incredible conformable and I started feeling sharp pains in my hip. Pros - the pack is highly adjustable and very durable but in the end comfort was more important for me.
I use this for multi day hiking the Colorado Trail and in the New Zealand bush, Whirinaki Forest. Carries my load well, comfortable, good pockets, the fabric does not tear when bushwhacking through deep forest. While not an ultralight minimalist pack, I find it is more comfortable on my back and shoulders. I love it.
