Garmin has been complacent for many years. Finally Wahoo has come along to bring some competition. After a frustrating experience with my Garmin 520 where it would crash, not find sensors, and be a pain to customize; I decided to try the Bolt. This this is quick, picks up sensors every time, and is instantly customizable via the companion app. Finally someone is here to make Garmin compete. We as consumers will all win, and this is proof.

Great Hardware Design & UX Ideas - but real flaws
Mike

This really seemed to be the ideal bike computer with GPS & this price point. The hardware really is well designed & the user interface ideas with the screen sizing on the fly are great!. But there are a couple of HW issues: the LED's are just low intensity & virtually invisible in daylight on the trail (limited usage too), and the GPS accuracy is not great. On a local 10 mile MTB loop fairly flat not heavily wooded, full cell coverage, not in the sticks, the BOLT lost .7 miles, phone in back pocket lost .2 miles. But the larger issues are its Software (device & app) that ultimately meant I had to return the device. Easiest example? This $250 bike computer does not have an Odometer function (No really! check the specs above - and compare to another device PS: REI why do you not have the same core specs on all computers so you don't miss this?!). Ok, but the app has it right? Wrong! So if you want to track how your season is going with totals for miles, climbing, etc. - Wahoo recommends you use another 3rd party app - a literal reply to asking them. There is not Trip 1 2 (asked), there is not climbing summary in the app yet the device has a great built climbing page?!, etc. and a handful more issue like this. Compounding this though is the the online documentation / help is awful in how shallow or non-existent it is. You quickly find your self on group forums finding more help. I so wanted to keep this device but for $290 (have to get the speed sensor too) to not do the most basic of things any rider would want, like actually tracking your season, that you could do with even the simplest of devices and/or a free app - had to return it...

Great bike CPU bcked by great support from Wahoo

Had the Garmin 510 before. At first I was hesitant to switch but once I tried the bolt I have not powered up the Garmin since. Setup on smart phone was so much easier than Garmin. Also sending data to Strava worked almost every time automatically. With the Garmin it was 50/50. Loved the unit used it non stop for almost 2 years. Then the screen started showing lines. I was ready to buy a new unit but tried wahoo support to see if there was an fix and to my surprise they arranged for an exchange even though it was way past the initial 1 year warranty. Awesome bike computer with awesome support ! This support sealed the deal for me getting a kickr.

Not regretting switch from Garmin... so far.

Have been using the Bold for about two weeks since my Garmin edge 500 died and am, for the most part, happy with the decision. Set up with phone app was very easy and intuitive. Took a bit of rethinking as well as trial and error to set up pages just right so that information Is displayed using the zoom function rather than scrolling through many separate pages as in the Garmin world. Impressed with how much thought was put into anticipating most cyclists needs. Like many reviews have mentioned, the map page is the weakest just because it is black and white rather than color. I have never used the navigation features on my Garmin so this was not a major issue.

Easiest setup, ever!

After years of riding "old school", I finally broke down, and after some research bought a ELEMNT Bolt. I paired it with a HR strap, Speed sensor and cadence sensor, as well as a two sided power meter; which might have taken two minutes. Many "tech" companies could take lessons from Wahoo. The computer is easy to learn and easy to use. The only drawback so far is if my iPhone is turned on and with me, connectivity to all those sensors drops. Until I have time to figure that out, NBD I just turn my phone off. (Airplane mode doesn't make a difference). As someone who has been riding for decades, this computer is like magic. What an awesome tool!

The bolt is a great computer!

I've been riding with this computer for about a month now I had a small problem with the display but the Wahoo customer service took care of it immediately. I love that it integrates with my training Peaks workouts in that I can import or build any other workouts I want. Once paired with your various sensors it connects almost immediately when you turn the computer on for a ride. This is true even across different bikes. Battery life seems pretty good, I don't really know how long it is because I haven't been able to run it below 40% or so even after a few rides one after the other. All in all a great piece of gear I recommend do anyone!

Great device

I have been a garmin fan for years but fed up with spending loads on a new garmin. The good - Great look and feel and the user interface is very good. Monochrome screen but that actually works well. The set up is easy and is done through your mobile. The battery life and the connection is awesome The bad - no touch screen, i did not think this would be an issue but i am slowly getting used to it. changing screens is not as easy as you press the button on the side . I have still not managed to make the second screen figs larger but i think i just need to tinker with it. Overall i am very pleased with it and so far a good choice to Garmin.

What are you waiting for?

I had a Garmin 820, as you know you kinda sweat when you ride. If you don't, then I know you drink. Either way if the Garmin 820 gets wet, it's USELESS. My gps chip failed and I was on my way to a half iron. I was fed up with Garmin ignoring my enhancement request, suggestions and input. Pretty sure whoever's in charge at Garmin is NOT an athlete. The bolt is great. What I love is the ease of setup on my mobile Reliable tracking Not a touchscreen Training peaks integration Di/2 wifly integration Long battery life Instant upload to tpeaks Reliable device Assign LEDs to any metric (pwr, speed) When are you guys making a watch?!?!???

It just WORKS

I am not particularly tech savvy, don't want to have to connect anything to download results, and yet do want the functionality of odometer/speed and GPS/mapping. The Wahoo Elemnt Bolt does that and more, with next to no involvement on my part. All I did was download the app to my phone, link my Strava info (and TrainerRoad, but that's a different matter) to it, and away I went. Automatic uploads and even mapping info. Bonus was that when my phone was with me, I could see who was calling and also short texts so no wondering or stopping for either. LOVE IT and at a fraction of the cost of certain other brands I've purchased before.

Little and Powerful

I've been using the bolt for about a month and have really enjoyed it. Easy to use on a day to day basis with the wireless connectivity and long battery life. I like that different 3rd party gps programs act a bit differently. Ride with GPS routes allow turn notifications, for when you don't really now where you are, but Strava routes just load in the map without cues, nice when you know the area, but just want to have a route loaded to keep you on track. Easy pairing with speed and cadence sensors, etc. The mapping is not as powerful as some other products, but good enough. Great product with great features at an amazing price.

Loving the ELEMN Bolt

I'm pleasantly surprised with the ELEMNT Bolt. After fumbling with the glitchy RFLKT+ for a few years I was cautious to jump to another Wahoo product. Most of my concerns were alleviated when I got the unit and paired it for the first time. Everything just worked. My heart rate monitor and speed/cadence unit paired almost right away. The only issues I've had with pairing these have been after updates but it only takes a couple tries to get it to connect. Overall, I'm happy with it especially considering what problems I had with the RFLKT+ and every other product leading up to the ELEMNT Bolt. It seems they finally got it right.
