Far and away the best gloves I have ever owned...
Far and away the best gloves I have ever owned...Why? Dexterity, fit and relative warmth. I live in Michigan. I use these in 20-40 degree temps. I ride my bicycle and motorcycle, and ski in these. If you like to be outside a lot and need maximum dexterity and suitable warmth you need these gloves. These gloves durable and I look forward to wearing them out. REI's description has a large mistake. Hestra does not claim these gloves to be waterproof nor are they.
Top quality
This is a top of the line glove with the best construction in the industry. Very low profile, but still keeps me warm in single digits on the chairlift. It has excellent dexterity. I love the removable liner and I wish more gloves had that. It basically turns these into perfect spring skiing gloves. One thing of note - REI says "waterproof" but the Hestra site says water resistant. I tend to take Hestra's word on that and they don't mention any sort of membrane or anything. For me this hasn't been an issue since nearly all of my riding is in Colorado which tends to be very dry snow. The leather itself is fine and does not soak through as long as you keep it treated. The issue is the cloth back. If you are in an area with wetter snow you might consider a gore tex model instead.
Disapointed
Disapointed. I used these gloves 2x and they are certainly NOT waterproof. I applied the hestra leather conditioner as described. Day 1 was a sunny day with plenty of skiing. Most of the day they kept my hands comfortable, not too cold and not too hot. I was optimistic heading into Day 2. Day 2 was a skiiers dream, the snow was falling from first light to last run. Sadly, the gloves didn't make it past lunch. After 3 hours they were soaked all the way through, the leather was heavy discolored. I really had high hopes for gloves in this price range. If your looking for an all around ski glove, look elsewhere.
Toasty-Warm, and Comfortable, and Gorgeous
Love these gloves! So supple, so comfortable, so warm. They can handle super-cold ski days in Vermont—no need for heat packs. Leather doesn't need to be broken in, fleece is super soft. Note these are under-the-cuff gloves, which I like. The deep blue is handsome, the textured material classic. They're not cheap, but they're worth it.
Amazing. Will never go back to cheap gloves again
Ski buddy of mine has had the 'Lobster Claw' Heli Ski three finger mitt for 5 years and swears by them as the cure for frozen fingers. I'm not a fan of mittens, and I don't tend to suffer from cold hands so I was looking for gloves. Talking with the ski boot fitter I asked for recommendations on gloves. His advice was buy something from a company that only makes gloves, like Hestra or Swany. I tried on a number of gloves and even a few mittens, looking for a good fit and as soon as I put these on I knew these were perfect. The top notch materials, features, fit and finish show in every aspect. Right down to the Velcro on the removable liners. (The hook side is sewn to the liner so it doesn't catch when you remove or insert the liner) Three days on the mountain and they're not pure white any longer, but even into single digits and 20+ mph winds, my fingers never felt cold, even on the chairlift. No, I can't use my phone with them on but with the wrist straps I can pop them off with no risk of loosing them and send a quick text. I can do everything I need to do outside with them on. The only weakness is that as it's leather, even with fresh treatment with the included Hestra Leather Balm, they're only going to be water resistant. So if you're going to spend a lot of time with your hands in contact with the snow, there might be better options. Like the Hestra Gore-tex gloves. Yes, they're are cheaper options. But at this quality, and the expected life out of these? I'll never go back to disposable, fail after one season gloves for my outdoor life.
Gloves for warmer days
Gloves made for warmer days not for the colder days on the slopes. Well made and soft leather for good dexterity.
Good spring skiing glove.
Wears well very tough BUT not for days below 28 degrees. My hands have been downright painful because of the cold. I’d say if you’re wearing a face mask because it’s so cold these aren’t the gloves for that time.
