Good gloves, not great for wet or extreme cold

I’m on season 2 of owning these gloves and there’s a lot to like about them. I wear them with an extra liner which adds warmth and is nice for when you need additional dexterity. The good: + Great ergonomics. The gauntlets are long enough, the straps cinch nicely, the leashes are critical features + Good dexterity. The goatskin is supple and the finger boxes aren’t too large to prevent you from performing most operations + Good warmth. Down to the mid 20’s I’ve found them to be pretty warm, especially when moving. The not good: + Not particularly water resistant: In wet conditions water leaks through the seams. This hasn’t been an issue most of the time, but if you’re in wet conditions regularly I’d look elsewhere + Goatskin wears quickly: I’m on year two of these gloves and the goatskin is starting to wear. + Not amazing in very cold conditions, but if I’m honest I’ve never had a pair of gloves feel very warm below 20 degrees if you’re not moving.

Good but not great

Comfortable and the wrist strap works very well and I can't tell it is on. However, not that warm and for the price I expected them to be warm. Thus, I wouldn't recommend.

Good full-featured gloves

I was looking for gloves that would work well in temperatures down to +10 F when I wasn't exerting myself. The fingers and palms work well under those conditions, and the gauntlet keeps the cold air away from my wrists. (I wasn't aware that they included a tether, but I have used it many times and appreciate their convenience.) These are now my go-to gloves when I am not snowshoeing or some such strenuous activity that makes a lighter glove appropriate. Well worth the price.

Hestra gloves

I have worn hiking this winter in the mountains of New Hampshire. Very warm and flexible. I have other very warm gloves and I have trouble bending my fingers or wrapping my hands around my poles. These I had no problems with. Very warm and comfortable gloves.

Well made but not warm

I bought these at REI in Bozeman, MT. I was looking specifically for Hestra gloves based on reputation for being well made. That they are however, anything under 20 degrees these are the coldest gloves I have ever owned. I even purchased the wool liners hoping for improvement. No luck. I had purchased Black Diamond mittens which I use for colder conditions and I have a pair of Swany Attak gloves that are 10 years old I use for most days. Warmer days I wear these Hestra gloves. For $165 you would think they would be warmer then add the $55 for the wool liners. One of the worst purchases I have made.

Great Gloves, Sized Small

I finally found a pair of gloves that fits my 9 1/4" hand! I found them at my local ski resort, in size 12. Yes, you read that right. These gloves are very undersized, so be sure to try them on before buying. When you find the size that fits, they will be super-warm, and have a long gauntlet to keep warmth in and snow out. They also look smashing!

ALL SHOW. Don't Purchase

Sporting the Hestra Grand Emblem, along with the soft leather, beautiful stitching and attention to detail, these gloves are all show. They simply do not function as gloves that should, principally, keep your hands warm. The cold leather will simply transfer the chill through the liners and to your fingers. I have found that when gripping my poles with only thumb and forefinger, I can have these fingers be frozen while the remaining three are (almost) warm. So unless you want to use these for more than casual walks with your hands pocketed, don't purchase these gloves.

Single digit temperatures skiing

Quality very good but warmth was significantly lacking. Used for two days of downhill skiing in temps Bren 2-9 deg F. Hands were cold. Even attempted to use hand warmers inside gloves and hands were uncomfortably cold. Returned gloves for Hestra three finger mittens which worked much better.

Great Quality but performance was lacking

Had these gloves for a couple weeks and my only uses were for shoveling/blowing snow. They were great in 30 degree weather but once it dipped below 20 my hands would get uncomfortably cold. Like so cold they hurt.

Alpine Pro Winter Gloves

Since 1936 Hestra does one thing, make gloves; and they are good at it. The Heli Insulated Gloves (Army Leather Heli Ski) are the best insulated gloves for snow sports. Removable liners let you dry the gloves overnight, and gauntlets keep out the snow. Goat skin / polyamide quality construction, tough, and warm; everything you need in a winter glove. Designed for Alpine Pro Ski Guides. Size runs a little small, might want to go up one size. I normally wear a size 9, but it was tight; size 10 fit like a glove should. Fingers are long enough, but not too long, snug fitting, but not too tight. Simply the best.
