I took this Big Haul Wheeled Duffel 34” on a four-day trip. The first thing I noticed when I pulled this duffel was how it just glides over the floor. Must be wheels and perhaps something else. You don’t feel the weight at all! The duffel is flexible with space mainly due to its soft top. You can pack less or keep stuffing more. I packed everything I needed for both business and play and had room to spare! It has buckles to fasten both inside and outside, so stuff stays put. The outside buckles make sure the duffels stands pretty too. This wheeled duffel has several handles at the base, the opposite side of the base and the top for carrying in and out of the trunk or conveyor belt. It fits nicely in spaces due to its rectangular shape and soft top. The duffel has zippered pockets on the inside and small ones on the outside. One of the outside pockets has a small clear pocket for your luggage tag. One of the greatest features of this duffel is how steady it is. I’m writing this in comparison to another similar duffel that I bought from somewhere else. This duffel will not topple and fall despite its height and weight. It does not even look like it will fall at all. I didn’t have to worry about that. I was traveling with colleagues, and they loved my duffel. The charcoal color is lovely, and in case you forgot who you are carrying, the REI Coop is subtly displayed on top. It is durable. After my first trip, it still as good as new. This speaks for the workmanship. Here’s to many more journeys with REI Coop Big Haul Wheeled Duffel.

Failed to Match or Better Wheely Beast 2.0

the Gold Standard of this bag is the REI Wheely Beast 2.0 introduced over 12 yrs (2006) ago. i have been using the Wheely Beast for 10 yrs, across three continents, many countries, miles and miles of totting the Wheely Beast 2.0 on rough streets, rugged terrain with at least 45 lbs load. so, i have immense trust and confidence with Wheely Beast 2.0 and want this bag to have the same impression... my observation... Plus: 1) improved underside protection against rough pavement/terrain scratches. manufacturer added a plastic "cup" at the bottom. neat design! 2) same simple one compartment design. the more compartments, the fewer packing options. i love this simple design which inherits from Wheely Beast 2.0 3) same strong wheels and handle. Minus: 1) the width of the belts are too thin, should copy the same design 2) Wheely Beast 2.0 came in empty at about 11 lbs. this Big Haul Rolling 34" came in a tiny little over 10 lbs. weight reduction less than 1 lb. i would think after 12 yrs, we can find lighter material with same strength to reduce the overall empty weight of the bag.

Heavy equipment

The Big Haul Rolling Duffel is a large, hard-backed duffel bag with a soft yet durable plastic body. It has two sturdy, fixed roller wheels, which allow it to move well on flat ground. The wheels are large enough to get over dirt, grass and gravel without much trouble. It weighs in at about 10 lbs alone, so lifting a full bag can take some upper body strength. I found that getting it up and down stairs is a bit of a chore. It has three stitched fabric handles, which are located on the top and either side of the bag when upright (wheels down). Lifting a full bag by the top handle pulls in a way that looks like it might stretch the nylon top over time. I tried to carry it by the top and side handle, but that made it awkward to carry in narrow spaces. You could lift the bag by the retractable hard handle, but I avoided doing this as I have damaged similar handles by doing this. It has a small pocket near the top handle which is convenient to hold small items (keys, change, documents) while on the move, and another pocket on the side which could fit a book, e-reader or small tablet. The remainder of the bag's volume is devoted to the large, main compartment, which is spacious and adequate for extended trips. On the underside of the clamshell, zipper opening are two heavy mesh compartments to allow for some organization of your belongings. There is a ton of space to work with for long trips. Getting in and out of the bag is easy enough, although the plastic buckle clips can sometimes get in the way of the zipper. Additional features include the buckle clip straps which help sinch up the bag, a daisy chain to clip on additional belongings to the outside, and a small plastic window to insert an identification card. These are nice to have although I have not needed them quite yet. Overall I was pleased with my experience and am glad to have the bag. It will be useful for long trips that I have coming up. I don't plan to put any fragile items in it when checking it because of the soft top. The bag itself though seems very sturdy and good for packing around clothing, toiletries and all of my basic travel needs.

Large and In Charge

Over the past few weeks of having this product I have used it on three separate trips. Two weekend car camping trips with my family of 6 and one car vacation. Pros: - Extremely rugged, I feel like I could strap it to the top of my car and use it as a car top carrier and not worry about it being damaged or being affected by the rain, I have not tried this yet, but am planning on it in the future. Large wheels that roll over anything even when camping, high quality material and zippers, I know if will stand up to a lot of abuse and last a long time. - Fits a ton- I was able to fit everything all clothes/jackets/footwear in this for 6 people for a weekend camping trip. I then rolled it into the tent and it was perfect only having one bag in the tent for all of us. - I love the straps that can cinch down it smaller if it is not completely full and that it has a few extra small pockets on the side and inside. -Holds it shape due to the bottom rigid portion Cons: - Too big, while camping it was great to fit six people's stuff in it; everything tended to get mixed up. I would love to have adjustable/movable/removable mesh dividers in the bag so that one could separate things in the bag. Being able to divide it in quarters or thirds would be perfect. Overall a great large rugged bag but with a few minor tweaks could be amazing!!

Great for traveling to Festivals

We bought this bag in hopes of having a more secure way to check our camping gear onto a plane. We were able to pack 2 sleeping bags, a 3 person tent, camp stove, table, cooking equipment, hammock, battery chargers, flashlights and even a queen size air mattress into this bag! We love attending festivals and love having the option to have our own stuff if we need to fly. Even at full capacity, this bag is quite maneuverable and very rugged. The material is very sturdy and the entire bag is very well built. Only thing I could suggest changing would be the internal tie down straps, they are too short. They could be about 2.5-4 inches longer on each side to help secure it all in.

Excellent rolling duffel bag

For years I have had several big rolling duffle bags to use for distant fishing, hunting, and hiking trips. This replaces an old Cabela’s one which was deteriorating with age. I like the configuration of this one better and it is better designed and better constructed. I gave it four stars since I have only used it for one recent trip. After a few more trips I very well might bump it up to a five. It survived the airline baggage handling, seems rugged, stands up nicely, rolls smoothly, and holds plenty of clothes, boots, and gear. I looked at numerous other brands of rolling duffels online and in stores, and this one stood out for looks, quality, and price.

Awesome but not water repellant

We've used this on several family outings and vacations now. Perfect for a couple traveling to get everything in one bag, or a small family if traveling light. The handles make it easy to lift and stow. It's been very rugged with no rips or tears after 6 separate long trips. The wheels are a fantastic feature, smooth rolling, and extra beefy - I'm sure they'll outlast the bag. The most significant drawback is that it is not water repellant! Camping and traveling in rain and such, I would have expected an REI bag to be water repellant (the Patagonia bag is. No buyers remorse, but just saying). We had to travel a bit by boat and got caught in the rain. The bag did not do much at all to keep the rain out. It's not advertised as being water repellant, but for being such a pricey bag and from REI, I would expect it to be.

A suitcase you could live out of (or in)

This suitcase is huge! I literally climbed inside of it (I'm 5'2). This is the perfect size for long traveling or traveling when you also need clothes for fitness/cute going out outfits/nicer outfits. The handles are probably my favorite part. That might seem weird but it's perfect for loading it into a car, grabbing it off the turnstile, whatever you need; side handles, top and bottom handles, etc. There is a top strap to use as a handle, but also a more traditional long handle. It also has those great 360 wheels which is the best for lugging it around airports/trains. It's bigger than I will need on a regular basis but this is my new favorite bag. It also has great zippered pockets on the outside and inside. GREAT SUITCASE!

Pack all your gear in one bag

We got this bag so that we could pack all of our bicycling gear and clothing in one bag while taking week long semi supported trips (i.e., our bags are transported daily while we ride). Previously we have used multiple bags, one each for clothing and one for gear. This bag is big enough to fit everything into one bag. The various pockets within the bag make it very convenient to organize and separate different items (and locate them without emptying the bag!) We were especially impressed with the reinforced corners - as bags on these trips are not handled very carefully.

Dream bag. Even for Antarctica

This is the roller duffel I'd been dreaming of - eyeing various brands at airports around the world. When I saw this one at this price I grabbed it. It's been fabulous. Multiple international stops and flights, including a boat trip to Antarctica. Easy packing and unpacking and living out of this bag.Great rollers and handle (I'm a tall person and don't have to do contortions with this bag.) Multiple handles make hoisting it really easy, even when i've filled it to 50 pounds. It is super light empty, so you're not wasting weight on the bag. The blue color is a perk. Not many out there with this design and color, so it's easy to spot in a pile of luggage or coming around the carousel. More great stuff from REI!

Big and Tough

I purchased this bag for a trip to Iceland. I flew a cheap airline and they didn't manage to hurt it in any way. BONUS. I packed it FULL of rolled up clothes and trinkets on the way back and it weighed 49.9lbs. No need to go any bigger unless you like paying for overages on the airlines. It rolls well and did I mention it is tough?
