Great for "ultralight" carbon road touring

I purchased this for my solo "ultralight" bike touring adventures. It's much smaller than a standard rear pannier, but it fits my bivy, sleeping pad, and sleeping bag (and other miscellaneous small items). I was worried about the pack swinging back and forth as I ride, but have never actually noticed that occurring - a pleasant surprise! I've had up to around 10lbs in the bag (U-Lock, Chain Lock, and 32oz Gatorade) and it worked great. I could definitely feel the handling of the bike change, but that's to be expected.

Simple, Effective, Holds A Lot of Goodies.

The Terrapin Saddle Pack has been trouble free for it's first few months of use. I'm really surprised with how much this pack can hold. The air purge valve makes rolling it up a breeze. I'm a huge of the two part system which includes the holster attached to the bike and the separate dry pack. This makes packing the drypack very easy. The drypack is 100% waterproof. There is a little bit of side to side play with the pack if I push it with my hand, but I do not notice it while I am riding. I really can't think of anything that would make it any better. If you only need to pack a few items you might want to consider getting a pack that holds less volume.

Amazing quality, but measure your bike!

My own fault for not measuring, but I could barely wedge the bag beneath the saddle and back tire. My bike is small (48), so I guess I should have anticipated this issue. Just leaving this review for those who have smaller bikes and might not realize there unfortunately totally isn't enough clearance for this kind of bag.

Very happy with bag for commuting & future packing

Works perfect for my change of clothes for work. I roll my clothes tightly and neatly and hold the roll together with a belt which stiffens the bag well. Straps give enough adjust and offer a perfect rear light location. I also put my lunch bag on top held in place with a bungee. The added weight hasn't been an issue at all. No complaints on aerodynamics, materials, or build quality. Not regretting getting this over a bag with a dedicated rail as this doesn't wobble. I don't think it would be a problem on singletrack either. I plan to use on some bikepacking trips and don't anticipate any issues.

500mi of Use

I decided on the RD Terrapin because it seemed to have everything I wanted - waterproof, lightweight, decent capacity and all at a reasonable price. I've found all of those things to be true over the course of my last 4 trips. I've been in swamps, clay roads, dusty single track and deluges and this thing has worked like a charm. My only suggestion to the buyer would be to make sure that you take care to pack the bag correctly before placing it into the mounting piece or it wont get a good fit and can be a little saggy. Going along with that, if you don't get the pack and mount put on right, it will sag and drag the back tire as you go over bumps, etc. The bright side is that even if you have an issue with it dragging a bit, it's tough enough to hold up until you figure out how to fix it. Lastly, beware of what you're getting. This is not a big pack and you'll need backpack, framepack, front mount, etc. to get all of your gear around for multi-day trips.

Fantastic is an Understatement

I bought this a couple of weeks ago and am sooo impressed. You hook the harness to the seatpost by a velcro strap and two other velcro straps hold harness to seat rails. The drybag holds a lot more than I imagined - put tube, tire irons, small pump, inflator with co2 cartridge, spare gloves, rain gear, fleece vest, and hoodie in dry bag and there was way more capacity. The drybag has a valve you spin about 1/4 turn too let air out while rolling up end of drybag amazing how compact the bulky vest and hoodie compressed then close valve - very easy to do with thumb and index finger then a single clip seals closed. Dry bag slides easily into harness. I initially though this might be combersome but is super easy to get into drybag - just undo two straps with quick release buckles and then either open dry bag in harness or simply pull drybag out of hsrrness and take to table or tent to open - takes like under 5 seconds to undo two clips and pull out dry bag. I don't notice bag while riding even over broken pavement or gravel roads. I was nervous of tire clearance but not an issue above stated items probably half capacity and bags rolls up so compactly squezzing out air - my biggest load is not close to hanging down the specified amount - my seat post to tire clearance was very close to minimum clearance required yet my bag is not within 3 or 4 inches of tire. I have had issues dismounting with panniers and having to struggle to get leg over panniers dismounting. This has not been an issue with this bag. I have been on some pretty messy rides - wet gravel road wash on bag, rainy rides... The drybag has been 200 percent waterproof :-)

Great bikepack bag

This was a great system! Never had to remove it entirely over 7-day ride like my friends did. Plenty of space!! The only negative was when I jumped the bike, it would rub against my back tire which wore down some of the outer layer; totally my fault for riding so hard while bikepacking. I will likely replace the mount far later in the future, but it held up well against the abuse it suffered.
