The spatula absolutely does the job that it is meant to do. It is convenient, portable, and very useful for the campsite. For some of the reviews that say it’s melting right away, I could see that happening if you stick it into the fire as it’s still plastic. However, I’ve used mine a dozen times, only in a pan that’s either on the grill top or an electric burner. If a pan is over the open fire, I’ll move it before using this spatula.
Did I need this? No. Does it take up less space? Not really. Do I already have two other camping spatulas? Yes. I just like cool camping gear.
I have had this for several years now, and it continues to work fine. The serrated edge helps when moving something around in the pan - think of it as little hooks to grab the food to move it around. I have only hadminimal melting and that was due to having the pan too hot to begin with. It is super handy to be able to fold this in half, and I have never had it come undone while cooking. It has handled eggs, burgers, chicken breasts, grilled sandwiches and pancakes with no issues, and even the occasional omelet.
Like the concept, but after using 1 time on cast iron skillet the tip of spatula got burnt and started to melt and flake off. Will Not buy again.
Was immediately wanting due to the folding ability. Who doesn't want to save space packing for the outdoors? I'm not a backpacker just a space conscious car camping packer. After one use a couple things stood out as negatives. The spatula part does not flex and is hard to use in a smaller pan especially if you need to get around the edges of the pan or cooking multiple items that are close together. Flipping larger pancakes or whole trout with this narrower stiff spatula was a challenge when a wider flexible spatula helps tremendously. The serrated edge was useless for me since I pack a couple of larger knives and it even drew blood from my finger a couple times while handling it during packing/unpacking. It does have sharp teeth I'll give it that. Not sure about the melting plastic as another reviewed. After using it once for pancakes I threw it in the trash. This would be perfect for survivalist that carry minimal items.
Handy and small footprint for my camping kitchen. Hope it holds up to griddle heat but so far so good.
The spatula burned and melted after one use. Very disappointed.
