I wore a light-grey and a dark blue version of this shirt on a trip to Taiwan and Hong Kong in hot and humid weather.  I found that wool, while it is amazing much of the time, is not the best for when humidity levels are high.  I found that the shirt didn't dry as fast as a synthetic shirt that I also had on the trip, it lacked abrasion resistance, and stained easily (the stains won't come out of the fabric and the material isn't strong enough for scrubbing). Also, the shirt pills quickly. I found that just by wearing a backpack and a camera bag, that the shirt showed a lot of wear and didn't look nice after only a few wearings. I own several pieces of wool clothing from three different brands, and I love the properties of wool in dryer and colder climates.  Maybe it was the high expectation that I had for this shirt, but I was let down by it and disappointed.
As a lady, decided to buy a men's shirt for looser fit for hiking. Have walked over 40 miles in a few days with lots of sweating. The shirt has no odour, didn't get soaked, was actually cool while wearing and protected me from the sun. It dried very quickly too in the places it got damp. I like that the neckline is cut higher, which allows for more sun protection. Love it.
Really, you only need this shirt for the outdoors. I own two now and even for two week trips of hiking and sweaty activity, these are the only two I bring!
Reluctantly bought prior to a 5 night bikepacking trip in Western North Carolina. My buddies all swore that a wool shirt was worth the expense. They are right: added an insulating later when it got cold, but wicked sweat when warmer, stayed stink free, and was definitely better than a polyester shirt. Happy with the purchase. And this just looks better than the other brands. One star off for cost.
I got three different smartwool t-shirts. They are all wonderful, this one is a clear baselayer so it is slimmer fit. I still wear it as a regular tshirt sometimes but its probably pretty form fitting for anyone who has a really athletic build. I sized up and it still fits 'smaller' than the other two shirts. Its super lightweight but isn't super thin like some other merino t-shirts, so you actually feel like you're wearing a t-shirt. Neck is not too tight or too loose. Most importantly, its still got the quick dry/low odor capabilities of merino. If you tend to sweat, this shirt will evaporate more of it and will actually dry pretty quickly, whereas if you sweat in cotton you just have to change shirts.
I wanted something that wasn’t 100% wool so it would hold up longer. Planning on using this on a hike in Aspen in late July. Use it as a layer to keep warm under my long sleeve collared shirt. Wearing it around my house so far it seems like it will do the job. It’s a bit thicker and not as soft as I imagined it would be.
I’m 6ft, 180lbs and got the medium. It is extremely scratchy, and the overall fit is really poor. It’s way too long (covers my butt) and the arms are cut so that that stick out unfashionably, while still somehow being constricting when I raise my arm above my head. I got this on sale, and it is not even worth the sale price. Not comfortable and not nice looking. Too shiny to pass as a casual shirt.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am 6'1", 185 pounds, and have a 34" waist. I wear a tshirt under nearly everything. I bought two of these tshirts after a chat with customer service. When they came in they were the perfect size and, more importantly, the perfect length. First wash; The chest size stayed fairly true But they shrank a full two inches in length, maybe more (yes, I followed the instructions on the tag). I detest a tshirt that barely tucks into my jeans. Unfortunately, these now fall into that category. When I got them, they came several inches below my belt line. Now they barely reach below my belt. I wish I had washed only one so I could show the length difference before and after washing. Having other wool clothing, I expected some shrinkage, but not this much.
Perfect under a hoody fly fishing on a cool morning. I go up a size for a slightly relaxed fit. I now have three of these and won’t hesitate to get more. Great quality.
I own several of these, and they work great for my purposes. I do a lot of warm weather backpacking and these keep me cool, dry quickly, and no stink.
