Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not a Catchy Title! I purchased these to replace my dearly beloved Keen cycling sandals which finally expired after seven or eight seasons. My default would have been another pair of Keens but REI doesn't offer them anymore. I'm a big fan of cycling sandals and these new Shimanos don't disappoint. They are a totally different sandal in that they are much more "open" than the Keens and that takes some getting used to as my feet are much more exposed than previously but I think I'm going to like that. I definitely prefer the Shimanos Velcro closures. Time will tell how durable these are but I think these will prove to be a good replacement for the Keens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally, a reliable sandal for cycling I had been looking for a reliable sandal for cycling for a long time, when my friend Bob showed me his. I went to REI within the week, and these sandals are perfect: comfortable, stable, cool, no hot foot, easy to walk in. They are as comfortable on rides around the block as on long rides. I really don't know why other cycling shoe makers don't have a sandal in their line.

Are the soles in these shoes sufficiently stiff? How do they compare to the stiffness of the SD66?

Asked by: William
The soles are stiff enough to work with a clip-in pedal system. We do not have a stiffness scale to express how they may compare to other cycling shoes.

Are the cleats sufficiently recessed so that they don't contact the walking surface when they have the flap on?  Are the cleats sufficiently recessed so that they don't contact the walking surface when they have cleats attached?

Asked by: jaxm
The cleat is recessed into the sole enough to allow you to walk around, however it is just recessed below the lug, so you will hear it when you walk in them.
