poor excuse for a stroopwafel

I love stroopwafel; in fact I seek them out from specialty European foods retailers, so I was joyously surprised to see these at REI recently. So disappointing! The cookie (the wafel part) was grainy, and crumbly and tasted like sawdust. The filling was stingy, and not very flavorful. Sit it astride a cup of tea to gently warm it up; no better, no glossy wonderful honey or caramel oozing out from between the two wafels. Don't know if the manufacturer is trying to reposition a stroopwafel as a bona fide energy food by tinkering around with the fat and sugar content, but it's not working.

Prevents/relieves that caffeine headache

Hello. I'm Don, and I'm an addict. My drug of choice is Coke Zero, a non-coffee caffeine source. Once upon a time, hitting the trail for several days meant suffering with caffeine-withdrawal headaches because I am not hauling Coke Zeros on my back and I do not enjoy coffee. No longer. These GU Stroopwafels are light-weight and compact, filling, tasty, AND they contain a strong caffeine hit. I eat one after I've hitched up my backpack, one a few hours later, and one more in mid-afternoon. For me - a necessity; for you - highly recommended.

GU stroopwafel - great on the go source of energy

Can't say enough about the Stroopwafels, wow. Taste is great, they are a little crispy on the very outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Great taste - so far have had the chocolate and salted caramel (both awesome), coconut and berry (pretty good). I was very surprised at how good these taste. The performance is fantastic. I have proven to myself over and over the value of GU and its products under extreme conditions (mountaineering) and these are now added to the mix. They really give you a shot of (sustained, not a quick boost) energy. They are light, so even eating two at a time is nothing like eating the heaviness of an energy bar. Great job GU, you nailed it with these. I am a repeat customer.

Great alternative to energy gels

I both participate in and coach others in endurance events, where energy management is essential (managing fuel, hydration and energy output), and I love this product. Energy gels have historically been my core resource, but there are times when I crave something to chew that is a quality energy source and easily digestible. I find the other GU Stroopwafel flavors too sweet for my taste, as is the case with similar wafers by Stinger. These Caramel Coffee Stroopwafels have become my fuel of choice. My only complaint is that I have had difficulty opening the package at times, struggling to tear the jagged saw-toothed foil packing at seam, until I discovered that one end is clearly easier to open than others. The manufacturer could easily remedy this problem by making the tear point more obvious either by notching the tear point or marking it more prominently on the wrapper.

Best Way To Wake Up

I get these delicious little Stroopwafel's for when I run, hike, climb, etc. FIRST thing in the morning. They are little pieces of chewy heaven at the point in the morning when your body typically hasn't "started up" yet to tell you how hungry you are, aka a regular/full breakfast might not sound appetizing 30 seconds after you get out of bed nor directly before early morning physical activity. They are especially scrumptious when dipped in coffee. Perfect amount of simple (and delicious) carbs for quick energy early in the morning. On a side-note: I literally coaxed my girlfriend out of bed with one of these the first time she had one. She was struggling hard and hadn't even opened her eyes yet on the first bite. By the last bite, she was standing up. These are little miracle workers, I tell ya.

Best Waffle for Taste

I have tried almost every brand of waffle and these are the best for taste. I have taken them on a couple of 7 hour bike rides and they were easy on my stomach and were tasty enough to want to eat on the final climb of day.

Light and tasty energy

I bought chocolate, caramel coffee, and salted caramel to try. Pros: Delicious. Light to carry. Light in the stomach. Provides nice burst of energy as a pick me up in mid morning, mid afternoon, or mid-hike. Quicker to consume while active than a piece of fruit and/or some nuts. Cons: Third ingredient is palm oil, fourth ingredient is sugar. No other cons I have experienced so far. Just ordered three cases.
