Very good light

I bought this light for my six year old for our camping and backpacking trips. The light is bright and the battery lasts super long, especially in low mode. I really like that it starts in low mode. This is good for protecting night vision and for reserving battery as my six year old will not be especially careful about which mode she uses. One the down side, the whistle is not loud at all. In fact I would characterize it as nearly worthless. That was a bummer as the signal whistle was the primary reason I got this for my kid instead of the tikkina, which is 30% cheaper.

Brighter than my old one

I bought two of these to replace an old pair of Tikka Plus. The increased lumens and battery life is what enticed me. Both of those features are solid. But other features, not so much. During our 2 weeks out, although we tried, my wife and I were unable to find a time that where the red light proved useful. I also do not like the buckle. It's an odd design for a whistle that is virtually worthless. And I do not like the new design for the on/off button. The old style had a little concave shape to it that made locating it easier. I'll still use this. But I think the engineers tried to get a little too cute with this one.

Great running accessory

Originally purchased the Petzl Tikka for my early morning training runs, and it has not disappointed! The adjustable head strap can be secured tightly enough to eliminate any bounce/slip during running. The back cover of the headlamp itself is not covered/padded, so if you're wearing it for an extended period of time, you may want to add a headband/sweatband underneath to cushion your forehead and prevent any impression marks. The illumination is great, highest power is good for complete darkness, lower settings sufficient for dusk/low light conditions. The tilt angle feature of the light is the best part, because it allows the light to illuminate where you're putting your feet without having to look down and take your eyes off the path ahead.

BEST HEADLAMP EVER!

I purchased this headlamp after using a cheaper alternative for several years that was purchased at a retail store. I grew tired of the actual light piece coming apart from the headband. I have been using my Petzl Tikka for a year now and am still pleased with the various light settings, the smooth tilt adjustment, and the comfort of the band. The lowest white light setting is not blinding and plenty sufficient for use around camp, while the red light setting is wonderful for night hikes. I recommend this to anyone looking for a reasonably priced headlamp for general camping/night hiking/backpacking adventures. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

Outstanding value

Having had two headlamps previously, i was shopping for one that had a red light option for preserving my night vision while doing photography work after dark. This rig is perfect. The switching mechanism for the 3 white light beam options and two red (constant, flashing) is straightforward. Its light and the tilt function work well. Uses AAA batteries that are available everywhere. And its reasonably priced!

Easy to see

I bought this headlamp after my cheap old one broke after two years. Amazing brightness both white light and red light. I didn't notice the glow in the dark ring around the L.E.D. until after I used it for the first time. Great feature. As well as the inter grated whistle in the head band. Several people I work with have bought this headlamp after I showed them mine. Great product, I would highly recommend.

A lot of light from a small lamp!

I purchased a couple of these to replace our old Petzl Zoom headlamps. These are so much smaller and much brighter than the old Petzl headlamps. I have a couple other headlamps that are less than $35, but they are not as bright, small, or well built as these. I really like the adjustable light level, the red light for preserving night vision, and the glowing ring to help you locate the lamp when you set it down in the dark.

Great Choice

This is a great head lamp, I bought it for us at camp but I have already found myself using it around the house. It works great and the bright setting was perfect for working on a electrical rewiring project in the garage when the power was out.

Great for dog walking in dark Northern Michigan

I bought this for walking my dog in early morning and evening hours in rural Northern Michigan. The headband adjusts easily and the on/off button is easy to use even with gloves. I use a retractable leash and the area lighted is perfect with the low and mid settings (I haven't tried the high setting). I thought I had to purchase batteries but it actually came with 3 AAA so it was ready to use immediately--perfect!

Tried to like it...

I waited to review this light because I thought the first one was defective since I welt threw 6 sets of batteries in the 10 hours I used it and it started randomly turning off. Tried durecell, energiser, rechargibles, and lithium none of them helped any. I got a replacement light and used it last night to get to camp, I put fresh batteries in right before I hit the trail. 2.5 hr later I made it to camp it was working great on medium, but by the time I finished setting up camp I had it on high and could barely see while making dinner. Total on time was about 3 hr...i can't see me getting 2 defective lights in a row. This light does seem good for occasional use around camp but I wouldn't trust it for any long time use
