Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is what perfect looks like When you find a product with beautiful design, that is well made and functions perfectly you just want to stand back and admire it. This rack is just so. Solid as a rock and you can tell the designers / engineers actually use these and fuss over the details. Every piece functions perfectly and it feels like all the wish list items have been addressed (rack doesn't wobble in the hitch, foot operation, EZ but solid bike mount, brilliant bike lock cable, cool looking design). And who knew I needed a built in workstand but of course I do! Bottom line best in class by a mile - it may as well be on EPO compared to the competition.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality comes at a price I purchased this rack to have as something that would last me a long time, so far its been great! I have it on a 2005 outback and with bikes loaded and folded back it leaves plenty of room for the rear hatch to open. I like that the bike stand attachment on the end of the rack can be removed and Kuat supplies a plug for this. Everything works as it should and came nicely packaged in the box, the handles on the stand and hitch tightener are very nice as well. The folding attachment to raise and lower the rack works great, although its not as convenient as the Thule T2s handle it is still nice and easy to use. I like the quality of the rack and was hesitant on spending the money, but now that I have it I am happy with my investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bike rack ever This bike rack is stable, easy to load (even for me a petite woman weighing 98lbs), it has separate locks for each bike as well as a hitch lock, and the bikes don't bump each other at all. Love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saying I'm impressed is too mild I have other racks, and have used friend's similar designed racks, but the RM, Y and T brands come off as second rated when comparing the construction of this beast. The materials, fit and finish are top-notch, and the ball-bearing connection point is pure genius. The quick access repair stand is purely inspired. I don't know how many times I wished for a real repair stand, and I do have Scorpion stands that I usually carry. No more! The Kuat fills a need as a lagniappe to an already superior product. The only down I could consider is this rack isn't for wimps to handle. But that doesn't bother me; I like have a rack that doesn't sway like an unballasted sailboat when I drive a dozen miles offroad to get to the trailhead.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great features I just assembled and mounted it last night. There's not much to assemble but it is heavy so it would be nice to,have a helper for 15 minutes. This replaces my old Spotrtworks, which is,still a great bike carrier. FYI, SW was bought out by Thule but still makes the bike carriers on buses. Features that are an improvement over the SW: the finish is really nice. Adjustable trays. Integrated lock system. Dial receiver stiffener- that's really nice. The work stand is nice but I doubt I'll ever use it. They do,provide a plug . And lastly- the tilt function. Now I can get into my Outback from the rear hatch. Negatives: the receiver pin requires you use the lock as it is very loose and will fall out. I am using a different pin that fits the holes tightly and has a retaining clip on the end. I suppose I'll use the locking pin if I am worried about the unit being stolen. Overall a very versatile well thought out bike carrier. Expensive, but you will get your 10% dividend if you are a REI member.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice bike carrier. This is an awesome bike rack overall, the only down side is I cannot open my tailgate without it contacting the rack.

Is the distance between bikes fixed or can it be adjusted to accommodate different bikes

Asked by: Joe C
The distance between bikes is fixed; the location of each front wheel is also fixed, which determines where your handlebars will be relative to the saddle or back wheel of the other bike. I haven't had any issues with interference between either my 29er enduro bikes or road bikes. (I have the 1.25" version, but I think the 2" will be the same.)

Also, does this rack have a "tilt away" feature for accessing the vehicle hatch while bikes are on the rack?

Asked by: GHC
Yes, the nv 2.0 can be tilted down to clear a back hatch.

Are the individual bike locks "heavy duty"? I don't see them on the photos - Maybe the come out of the front rack tube??? Thanks, Greg

Asked by: GHC
The locks are a cable lock that extends out of the rear tray, loops around the rear triangle of the bike frame, then the lock tip inserts into the lock on the integrated cable. There is a separate lock cable for each bicycle.

This rack will not carry an ElliptiGO. ElliptiGO has recommendations for compatible bike racks on their site.

Can this rack be used against the frame? I have front cargo racks on my bikes and can hook on the wheel.

Asked by: Jeremy rider
We do not recommend securing to the frame as the hooks are meant to be secured to the wheels.
