Leaks Horribly
This bladder came with my CamelBak M.U.L.E. It leaks horribly. We've attempted to use it 3 different times and each time it is a struggle to get the cap on the right way. And even with the best attempt, it will still leak. And this slight leak is enough to cause the inside of your bag to be fairly wet. CamelBak - you really should compensate people due to this horrible design. The washer part of the lid doesn't even fit the right way to create a seal. It is too big to seal both on the bladder itself and for the lid. The picture shows me holding the washer even on one side which shows it too big on the other side. Extremely poor design.
Tube Kinked Instantly
I bought this to replace a CamelBak Antidote reservoir. Although some features of the new designs are improvements, overall, it is worse. The Antidote had flip-out plastic arms that held it open to dry after cleaning it, while this one has no way to keep it open. Worse, the very first time I used it, the tube kinked when I bent it to bring the mouthpiece to my mouth. Now I have to use both hands to drink to keep the kink from closing. I never had an issue with the tube remaining permanently kinked on the Antidote. I have now had occasion to wash the bag twice, and discovered that the baffle has already started to tear away from the bag on one side. Looks like I will have to go back to my old leaky Antidote, since getting replacement warranty parts via the CamelBak website is not yet possible.
Love it so much!
I just finished my first hike using the Crux in my pack and I loved it. I have been using Antidotes up until now and they worked well on the trail, but I always had to struggle to close the bladder after filling it. Something about the way it threaded just always got messed up and I ended up with lots of spilt water. The Crux's closure on the other hand was very easy to use. This got my hike started on the right foot - I didn't waste time (and make a mess!) trying to get my water loaded. I ordered the bite valve cover to go with this and it installed easily. I'm looking forward to many happy years of hiking with the Crux - and I'll be getting rid of my frustrating Antidotes!
Garbage
I have owned perhaps a half-dozen camelbak reservoirs. Up till now, I have always been perfectly satisfied. The new design (Crux) is garbage. Unless you hold the retainer perfectly level, it distorts and the cap will not screw on tight, so it leaks. No more camelbak products for me. They took a perfectly good design (the old 2L reservoir) and wrecked it.
Leaks, bad design, bad taste
Leaky, probably due to the cap having to be absolutely perfectly fit on the threads, which is surprisingly hard to do. Even when I think it’s on correctly and don’t see any drips after closing, I’ve had a slow leak that soaks my back while hiking or climbing. Hard to clean properly because of inconvenient design. The giant plastic lid and massive handle take up more space than necessary. And for some reason, no matter how clean I keep it, it always had a strange perfume aftertaste (I don’t wear perfume). Overall I’d not recommend this bladder for any sport. Even short distances.
Bad "improvements"
I bought this to replace an aging Antidote. I've not had much chance to use it, but my first impression is, CamelBak has done old customers wrong. The larger opening makes for a poor fit in "older" CamelBak packs. The larger tube could well make accessories and perhaps the Bite Valve incompatible with the new size. I have done a dry test with the connector, and the new tube will connect with the old bladder (and vice-versa). However, I do not yet know if these connections are water-tight. SO, if you are needing to replace an aging Antidote bladder, consider eBay.
Great Hydration Bladder
This bladder is excellent. The new handle and wide opening make it easy to fill. Once filled, the lid seals securely and does not leak. I've used it on several hikes already and have come to appreciate the wider hose that allows for the flow of more water. When done using, the bladder is easy to clean, hang dry, and store in the freezer in order to prevent mold. I highly recommend this product.
Not like the old one
Bought this to replace on the one in my lobo that had had for many years. The tube with the reservoir is larger and has more flow which is good, although the tube is to large for the magnetic clip that came with my pack. It does not appear a new clip to accept the larger tube is available. The new reservoir also deleted the “wings” wround the mouth of the reservoir that was used to keep it open while drying the reservoir out. The new on/off valve may be useful for some but I never thought I was in need of one. The new on/off valve is not at 90 deg making drinking not as easy for me as the previous design. The larger reservoir make filling easier
Disappointing
Doesn’t fit my old Rogue backpack. Bought a replacement bladder but in the end you’ll want me to buy a new hydration bag.
Used for 11 mile hike
I brought this a month ago in anticipation to a camping trip I had coming up. I would recommend this bladder for a day hike. I used it while I was hiking the Pinnacle, the Pulpit Rock and a small portion of the Appalachian trail in PA. The hike took approximately 11 miles hiking at about 16-18 miles per hour. I did small sips (no gulping). I rated this a four (would had done 4 1/2 it I had an option) because I want to point out that this bladder held 3 1/2 bottles of 16.9oz of Poland spring water. It should hold up to 4 full bottles. However, the wide mouth design made it impossible to fill bladder to the brim without leaking out. Other than this, I like my purchase.
