Don’t work with Z-poles
I bought these because they were the only BD pole baskets I saw in the store. Turns out they don’t work with the z-poles I have, you need the slotted style for that... I think.
Terrible redesign.
The snow basket used to work great. It was tight and hard to put on, but that snug fit meant the snow basket also stayed on. This new version is much easier to put on now, with one easy push and a click, it's on. However, this also meant the snow basket is very insecure. On my first hike, I lost one snow basket 2 hours in, and the other snow basket 2 hours later. They most likely just snapped off when I hit an underbrush with my hiking pole. So I basically threw $8 on the trail on my first hike with these snow baskets. Until they change their design, stay away from these.
Snow baskets on komperdells.
Worked just fine on my carbon komperdells. Was a bit concerned, but the in store rep thought they were compatible. Six miles of snowshoeing on a deep base proved her right.
Excellent for conveying hiking poles to winter use
Allowed me to convert my BD z-poles into wintertime snowshoeing and skiing poles. Nice large diameter basket prevents poles from post holing into deep snow. Rugged plastic construction. Make sure to get tips as well,use the boiling pot of water method to swap those.
Mud cups
These snow baskets are actually quite useful. In the summer they help balance my poles in mud and in the winter snow. Great quality as always from Black Diamond.
Good Company with Broad view of support
I went to the East Hanover Store to see if I could get replacement tips for my Treking poles. I was informed that these could not be obtained and that if I Bought REI poles their tips never break. Pretty remarkable statement! I did buy the baskets but also went to Black Diamonds website and found that they do sell replacement tips, which I purchased and fit well. I guess Black Diamond recognizes that things happen and offer an alternative than complete replacement.
Helps keep my wife happy on steep slopes!
Well labeled, easy to put on, display was easy, not unreasonably expensive.
Very easy to attach to pole.
Our Black Diamond poles needed new baskets not because the originals wore out but because we misplaced them! We were delighted to find replacements at REI, ordered on line EASY, picked up in store EASY, attached baskets EASY then off to snowshoe in the mountains.....Not so EASY. Thanks REI for being there when we needed you!
These will not fit downhill/alpine ski poles...
Center mount hole for these is too large for normal size downhill poles, will need to return these as I believe they are designed for x-country pole replacement.
