Made it through college and 3 years on the job
I got this water bottle during my second year of forestry school. It lasted me the final 3 years and 3 years on-the-job both as a wildlife technician and forester. An accidental drop directly onto a pointy rock at the edge of a parking lot finally did it in. Even then, its only a small crack on the bottom (which I may attempt to repair). Prior to that, this thing took spills out of trucks, off tractors, my bike, and off my friends roof. Its tough, holds plenty of water, and its hard to lose a lime green bottle in a lived-out-of work truck! I'm leaving this review as I buy another one to replace the busted one, definitely a worthwhile purchase.
This lagic cylinder holds liquids
I have bought tents, packs, stoves, sleeping bags, clothes, shoes, etc, from REI and they asked me to review a headband, a single web sling for climbing and .... a water bottle. This indicates my status as a reviewer. This magic cylinder has been designed, I believe, to hold liquids, but I assume that it could easily hold pinto beans or even mud. I chose the colorless version, so as to help with identifying the contents. The mouth is secured with a threaded assembly that prohibits the vessel from leaking its contents. It works well- or did, until I allowed the top to droop down into the bottom of the dishwasher and it melted. I then added a very fancy new purple top with a fliptop opening for a custom touch; suffice it to say that jealousy has been aroused. If you want to make a summit bid or tackle a slot canyon without cleaning your filthy reservoir, or just want to pound some liquid- or pinto beans, or mud- this is your tool of choice.
It lasted awhile
I had my bottle for approximately 3-1/2 yrs and loved it because it held so much water. I held up after being accidentally dropped several times from knee high heighten. The other day I noticed a crack across the bottom, but it had been holding water without a leak, so I filled it again and took off on my journey. Unfortunately it accidentally fell from my backpack and the whole bottom broke. Like others, I have had bottoms that survived greater impacts, so I am unsure if I will buy another one of these despite my love for the bottle's capacity and the wide mouth opening.
THIS BOTTLE BREAKS!!
I bought this bottle for a 4-day trek in the White Mountains. I have used Nalgene bottles for years and have been totally satisfied. They have been indestructible. HOWEVER, leaving the parking lot on my way to the trailhead I dropped this bottle and it shattered spilling all of its content. Luckily I had another spare water bottle and extra water in the car, so I restocked before heading out. BUT if the bottle had shattered in the back country, leaving me in the mountains with no water, that's a real problem! Not sure if I'll ever buy Nalgene again. And certainly will not buy one with the REI logo on it!
Love this bottle!
Holds a lot of water for longer or harder hikes...
48oz of Whatever You Want
Bought this a few weeks ago. It's pretty basic. Just a plastic bottle with a wide mouth. Works great. Very durable. Love it. Measuring lines on the side to monitor your fluid intake if you feel like u need to do this lol. You can put stickers on it and make it your own.
Dropped it once and it broke
This product's description says that it has "excellent impact resistance." Mine certainly didn't. I had this for a couple of months and put it through very light use, only using it at the gym and storing/carrying it in my gym bag. Yesterday I was in the locker room and it fell from my locker (a little over knee-high) onto the tile floor. The bottom of the bottle shattered, a piece of plastic that comprised nearly the entire bottom broke off and water went everywhere. I was shocked, considering this was a relatively minor impact. I have Nalgene bottles that I've had for over 10 years that have been beat all to heck on dozens of rough backpacking, canyoneering and rafting trips. This one was practically brand new and didn't have a scratch on it! I won't be buying another of these newer type bottles that are clear and appear to have thinner plastic. This one couldn't even survive a short period of the lightest use imaginable, and a drop of a shorter distance than if I were simply standing and holding it in my hand.
Holds a lot
I used two of these to hike a 33 mile segment of the C&O Canal Path in MD a few weeks ago. It was humid each day with highs in the 80s, so not especially hot. These add a lot of weight when full but enabled me to carry lots of water. Plus they're easy to keep clean. They're a tad hard to drink out of while walking without getting water all over yourself. But I'm glad I had them.
Great Nalgene!!
I've had this water bottle for over a year and took it on my back packing trip in Costa Rica for three months! It survived everything from being tossed around in my back back to being accidentally dropped on a rough dirt road, I'm pretty clumsy. It's great for holding large amounts of water, on some days I would take two of them on hikes with me! The wide mouth does make it difficult to drink while walking... but that is easily fixable by adding a splash guard. Love this Nalgene!
Water Tastes Great From this bottle
This is far to heavy for backpacking, but for keeping up with water intake at home and in the office, this bottle is perfect. The bottle does not leave any aftertaste in the water. I cannot speak for the durability of this bottle, I feel like it may be more brittle than the opaque Nalgenes, but I get an aftertaste with the opaque bottles and I would rather have better tasting water and a little less durability. Lastly, no leaks when the lid is closed tightly.
