These pants failed on the first day of a six day trip when the zipper came unsewn from the seam and I was unable to zip the lower leg back on. Disaster. In addition to poor quality, these pant have two design flaws: 1)First, the two front belt loops are too far apart. Consequently, if you use a lightweight cloth hiking belt, the belt will ride up above the center button of the pants. 2) You cannot remove the lower legs without removing your boots. Unlike REI convertible pants, which have two zippers on the lower leg (one to separate the lower from the upper and one to split the lower so you can remove the lower with boots on), these pants only have one zipper. You are then forced to remove your boots (a pain if you are wearing crampons) or leave the lower leg bunched up around your ankles.
I purchased these pants because they work well for me as a woman! The women's pants are too tight around the zipper area. The men's are more straight legged and work just as the women's SHOULD work. Don't let it deter you guys! They are great and dry fast!
I’ve had these for a year and a half. For the half year I was in Texas and didn’t really wear them unless I was kayaking/fishing. They were great for that light and fast drying. Then I moved to Colorado and started doing backpacking trips. I love the pockets and the zip offs, they were super clutch. However I guess being more active was a bad thing cuz all the stitching started coming undone and I have a two holes, one in the back crotch and one under the zipper, along with both hems on each leg above the cut off zipper. If you’re gonna be chillin or light backpacking in these pants they are great but if you’re working or doing some backcountry bush crafting and want them to last past a year I wouldn’t recommend
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Wore these exactly twice--second time out, I found a hole in the back pocket. Atrocious quality, and Columbia expects me to pay for warranty shipping. Never again.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have purchased a lot of Columbia apparel over the years. The quality is still pretty good, but sizing has become an issue. I've been a reliable 36/32 with all of my Columbia pants. Perhaps it's just the cut of these convertibles but I had to go up to a 38 to get a proper fit. The second complaint is with the front pockets. They are actually more shallow than the rear patch pockets. Not a big deal for the intended use of these pants, but still.... Purchased for a trip to the backcountry, I'm sure they'll do the job. I doubt I'll wear them beyond that though.
This product is poorly designed. My wallet would not stay in the back pocket. The pocket has no button, Velcro or zipper to secure the pocket. I returned both pair that I bought. I ended buying the REI brand pants which are a better value and design.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love these pants. I get overheated near instantaneously when wearing long pants, but that hasn’t happened so easily in these...and if it does, I’ll just unzip them into shorts! They look great, can be casual or even semi formal. I was wearing them at work and my GF asked why I was dressed up. But then again, I’m always in shorts. I can’t say much about their stretchability, so I’d try to order appropriately. They seem true to size for me. I’m 6’2” and a fairly slim 190lbs and the 34x32 fit me perfectly. I also tried the 34x34 and they were too long.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These are my go-to pants. They are light and cool, very functional and very comfortable. Unlike the regular silver ridge pants, the fabric in these has a lot of stretch so the pants move with you making them much more comfortable, and with the zip off legs they are very versatile. I wear these at work all the time, leg sections on for meetings and events, then the legs come off for casual mode in the afternoon. They do run a little on the small side. I wear a 40 and 42 in most Columbia clothing, but had to go up one size for these.
The pants functioned well. The zip off functionality was easy enough to remove and re-add pant legs. Unfortunately, I am forced to question the durability of these pants as the first trip I took them on (Necklace valley, US WA) ripped a rather large hole in the zipper pocket. Fortunately my hiking partner noticed or I would have lost my drivers license and credit card.
I bought to satisfy my work and outdoor needs. I'm able to wear them to work since they look so nice and I can hit the trails immediately after work! Very comfortable and just the right amount of room for free range of motion no matter what I'm doing. Converting to shorts is also a plus if I want to run. A little thinner than I would have liked so I'm not sure how they will cooperate with colder weather but still doesn't take away from my five star rating. Zippers are very well made and durable as well.
