Eating Better with Jetboil
I bought to improve my food quality from eating just freeze-dried bag. This allowed me to make eggs in the morning, evening were soup for the first course followed by pasta with sauce for dinner. It is easy to set up (I also bought the 5 lb refillable propane tank). It is able to heat food or water up quickly. It is important to not use the high heat when cooking in the pot or you will scorch the bottom and it will be extremely difficult to clean. I would also make sure you use oil or Ghee if you are going to cook something that may have a tendency to stick. I also have to mention the burners lit the first time I tried. Recently it was extremely windy while camping and I used the wind screen and it worked well but I learned to use other camp gear to block the wind so don't know if it is necessary. It also took me a while to figure out how to attach - it is simple - push into rubber slots. I am very happy with the purchase and look forward to increasing my culinary abilities while camping.
Just what i never knew i needed.
I absolutely love this set up, i originally bought it for camping but to be honest it goes everywhere with me. I typically cook breakfast on the stove unless im making a pasta. The carrying case makes the setup extremely compact and its really easy to completely disassemble and clean. This is a great product if you want a gas range that is similar to cooking at home and are looking for something with a small footprint.
Great stove with easy to find fuel
If you like to take the hub and spoke approach when camping, this is a great addition. It packs very nice with all the pots and pans. The burner has a lot of control. I love that it is such a stable platform when cooking with a pan. I am trying to perfect my technique for cooking cinnamon roles in the pot. I have cooked them multiple times but am still trying to get it just right. Gotta keep that heat low when cooking the cinnamon rolls. Other great things to consider when cooking on this are fajitas and gyros. So delicious, especially when all you see is nature. I highly recommend this and it was a big hit with my camping buddies.
Perfect setup for #vanlife
We got the Genesis Base Camp System shortly after it was released and have used it twice a day almost every day since then (two years+). It's the perfect setup for van life as it packs up super small and includes everything you need for a variety of meals from pastas and curries to bacon, eggs and pancakes. We really like the non-stick ceramic pan and how adjustable the burner is. Great for simmering or rapid boiling!
Innovative, but the use of plastic is baffling
The Jetboil Genesis stove is both one of the most impressive and most frustrating pieces of gear I’ve used. On the positive side, it’s incredibly compact, fuel efficient, and offers excellent flame control. The mechanical build quality feels solid, and the wide design allows two full-sized pots or pans to fit comfortably, which is a huge plus for camp cooking. Unfortunately, it’s undermined by some baffling poor material choices. Key components such as the pan handle, lid, and even the windscreen are made of non-heat-reistant plastic and can melt under normal use. This raises concerns not only about durability, but also about the possibility of melted plastic coming into contact with food. While its wide footprint is functional for cooking, it can also make the stove awkward to fit on smaller picnic tables. Overall, the Genesis is innovative, compact, and highly functional, but its reliance on plastic in heat-exposed areas makes it less durable than it should be.
Excellent portable stove.
I cook scores of meals outside, often over fire but I still pack an Optimus SVEA 123 that's over 50 years old. The Genesis Basecamp is an excellent portable stove. The first meal I cooked was Steak Diane for two and the stove performed without a hitch.
Worth the premium price
Ive used the Basecamp on 3 car camping trips here in CO in 2020 - this stove not only shocks my camp friends when I 'unfold' it, but cooks any meal with ease. Very happy I purchased this over any of the other non-folding basic camp stoves out there. Compactability of stove + pots + pans is the name of the game here so it's a total value at the premium price. Also make sure to add on the Luna Burner - it's perfect for AM coffee or PM pasta sauce.
Perfect for my needs
I needed a light weight, compact stove, with three burners so I could cook for a group. The basecamp, with the Luna satellite burner is perfect. I've had it out several times and could not be happier. Everything stores in a single container, with a strap that makes it very easy to store and transport. And the Luna stores very nicely in the 1.8L cup I added to the system. One suggestion, pick up a couple of microfiber towels. I use one to wrap the basecamp so it doesn't scratch the 5L pot, and one for the Luna so it doesn't scratch the 1.8L. Two thumbs up!
I'm returning it
I tried this out recently on a 3 week trip to Glacier. I bought the unit online from REI. It arrived with a ding in the 5L FluxPot. I would have returned it but we were leaving and I needed the stove. I should have returned it. At the end of the first week, the handle came off the 5L FluxPot when I was lifting it to drain water from boiling pasta. A few days later the fuel regulator stopped working. I had to buy a different stove to finish the trip. Not impressed. For $350 I was looking for a quality piece of camping equipment. I didn't get it.
Perfect car camping necessity!
BLUF: Buy this stove. I was initially hesitant due to the high price tag and complex looking design, but I pulled the trigger in hopes that the space saving and lightweight design would outweigh the steep price. I'm not disappointed. The stove is extremely easy to set up, start, and cook with and the included pan and pot cook fast and clean easily. I wasn't sure how the burners would do with the plastic wind barrier, but I have not yet needed to use it despite some cold and windy mornings. The stove can go from low simmer to full afterburner but remains fuel efficient at all settings. The only disadvantage is that our friends now rely on us to cook all of their meals.
