Coleman  8-Person Instant Cabin Camping Tent

We've had good luck with Coleman, especially the 4 man and 6 man instant tents. We has the same problem as Not a Happy Camper; 3 poles would not extend. This was the first time we used it. Again, we are very familiar on how to pitch the other Coleman instant tents, so this poor engineering and manufacturing was extremely disappointing. Because 3 poles wouldn't extent, we pitched a unbalanced tent that put pressure on two other poles, bending them out of shape. We had to throw the tent out! What a waste.

I am in general pleased with this tent. First night out...a couple of summers ago, we had a deluge and had no leaks. However, this last Christmastime camping, a storm did cause a few drips. I had bought the rain fly, but hadn't used it, so put it on for the spring break camping. As expected, 8 people would be real cozy, though having doors at each end helps. I haven't had more than 4 people, and it's been quite spacious for that, even with 3 cots. Note that for full structural integrity in a strong wind, the guy lines are definitely needed. It is self-standing, but is wobbly in the wind without those.

This tent sets up quick as they say it would. The problem that I have is that I’ve only used it once back in may. I just decided to set it up again today to camp out with the kids but it rained and water got inside the tent. Luckily we didn’t get everything setup inside the tent. We also have the rain fly to go with it

The original model of the tent was awesome, so much so that we got the new one. The new one WONT STAND UP! Its caving in on its self.

I've had this tent for a little over a year and have taken it camping over 10 times. The second time we went camping we got caught in a rain storm with 90 mph straight winds (we evacuated the tent during the storm). The next morning I thought for sure the tent would be a mess. However, we had the tent staked down properly and the tent held up with one corner bending down into the tent and at the opposite corner, the bottom of the tent ripped from the pole. I was able to sew it back on and we kept camping in the tent the remaining 3 nights. When I set the tent up recently I noticed a screw in the top had broken, and so the tent is a little wobbly upon set-up and it likes to twist because the one leg isn't fully secure, but once you get it staked down and the guy-wires secured, the tent is fine. I'm sure if I drill out the screw that is stuck and find another one that fits the same hole I can easily fix that problem, but since the tent works fine as it is now I will not worry about it until it becomes a problem. Some people complain the legs won't extend. I had some difficulties at first, but with more use, they extent more easily and don't get stuck anymore.

My wife and I have had ours for about 5 years and slept in it dozens of nights with no problems. Nothing has bent or broken. We've actually figured out how to cinch it down small enough to take on an airplane without paying oversize luggage charges and have taken it all over the country that way. I see some people have run into problems with poles that don't want to extend -- that happens to us occasionally, but I find that a little twist frees things up to slide easily. We also always extend and lock the roof poles first before raising the side poles.

Do not purchase this tent!!!! Took it out 2 time and each time something broke. First it was the elbow joint. The bolts broke on those. Second time the pole leg rotated and is now stuck inside itself. For the price of this product I thought u was going to get a quality product. Can’t find replacement parts this was a complete waste of money.

So exited to try our new 8 person instant tent. But when we arrived to our campsite tried to set it up 2 poles wouldn’t extend, ended up with bent poles and no instant tent for the night!!! Luckily we had sleeping bags!!!

These are really great tents. The recent advertising pictures you will find show the OLD superior version of this tent. (instant 8) the new version does not have the small triangular vent flaps at the roof center. The new tent (2020 version) windows, the two largest windows, are not fully zipped up. The sides of the window zip but the top is open. Rain will not come in at all but if you are planning to use in a dusty situation you really want the windows to fully zip. This is still a great tent, sturdy and easy to set up on a relatively flat surface. The support legs and fabric cut tolerances are best for a flat ground setup.

Went camping with my two girls 10&7 and got stuck in a one hour rain storm. When opening the tent the rain was coming through every sealed window and the roof. Our pillows, sleeping bags, clothes, and air mattresses were soaked completely through. Puddles were in every corner of the tent as well as the center. This was our second time using the tent! Had to throw it out and had two very disappointed and wet children. I have been camping for 19 years and have never had such a negative experience. DO NOT BUY THIS TENT IT IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!!!!! please see pictures, windows are open to attempt to air out the tent**
