Well worth the weight
I decided to get this chair because I want to beable to sit back, relax and enjoy the view. I know the argument against the extra weight, but I feel like the comfort and recovery that this chair provides is more than worth it. I have used it on two overnight bikepacking trips and as a car camp chair. What I really appreciated about it, was that it was to quick and easy to deploy that I used it for our lunch stops along the trail. It is just as easy to disassemble and re-attach to the bike. I am 6' 180lbs and I find it to be comfortable. One of my buddies decided he needs one after seeing me use it and testing it out. I felt a little bad everytime I had to kick him out of it so I could sit in it again.
Great chair, if it will last
I love this little chair - its light weight, and really comfortable oddly enough. Which one wouldn't think with it being a lower to ground chair- but it is. Its first trip was to Santa Fe Baldy in the Picos Wilderness, NM. Somehow the fabric received very small punctures from being loaded on the outside of my pack - no big deal as that is amenable. 2nd trip to the Linville Gorge, NC - one of the bungie things that hold the metal frame together completely freyed and ripped- again - this is fixable. I was hoping that it would be a chair that wouldn't need to be handled so gingerly; with that said Im not abusing my gear, it gets used, sometimes in harsh conditions. Just wish it was a bit more robust.
Amazed by the quality
Bought this 2020 and I've been using it for trekking and bike touring, but also for daily training on gravel roads. I weigh 210+lbs and this chair is solid, it just never breaks. I'm amazed by the quality.
Quiet luxury
So having a quite minimal approach to furniture and home decor, I was looking to find chairs that I can use both on my outdoor escapades and as my daily kitchen chairs at home. Something that would stand the test of time as well. Got 2 of these. So far so good, in writing moment one year in and they are still pretty much as new even through heavy use. I think what will fail first will be just the actual fabric where it sits and connects to the alu frame. Other than that, they're comfy, they're reasonably light and the twist-style frame is great on uneven terrain.
The Best
Love this chair. A game changer. One of those "I can't believe I ever backpacked without this". Sets up/tears down in under 30 seconds, really durable, very comfortable. I've compared it to REI's UL chair and it is more comfy. One of my gear MVPs. I'm 5'6", 140lbs, but I've had some large buddies sit in it and it's held their weight no problem. I've only used it for one season, about 30 days total in the Backcountry, plus probably 30-40 days more in the front country. Can't speak to it's long term longevity beyond that. But if it broke next season, and BG wouldn't fix it (their Warranty and repair has been excellent) I would buy another in a heartbeat.
Best ultra light chair for an adult
This Sky Line UL is the best ultralight chair I've used. I owned and used the ubiquitous slightly smaller and lighter Helinox and REI ultra light chair and they are pretty great. Ultimately I found I didn't sit in them that much because they're not very comfortable. They're more comfortable than a rock or a log but they're not great for really lounging in if you're a full grown adult. This chair is just a hair larger and heavier but is a great deal more comfortable for me. I actually will sit in this chair and hang out for a while. I've used it quite a bit at this point and it's no worse for the wear. Another winner from Big Agnes.
Small size, big comfort
Comfortable chair that packs easily into full pack as well as day pack and really doesn't weigh too much, either. What I really like about the chair, aside for basic comfort, is the fact that's metal-on-metal where it counts at all the support points that hold the weight. No chance of breaking when anyone is sitting on it. One drawback, however, is that the pointed feet do sink into soft ground easily and on more than one occasion, I've had to pull the chair, and the rubber foot covers, out from under the ground where they had sunk. Other than that, it's a great, packable, comfortable and functional chair for camping, even on long hikes into the back country.
A worthy upgrade
I'm loving these! While we haven't tested them camping or backpacking yet, they're already in frequent summer rotation for us for concerts, picnics, day trips to the beach, and outdoor gatherings with friends. They're comfortable, easy to get in and out of, and low enough to the ground that I don't mind the lack of cupholders (it's easy to just set a drink on the ground and reach for it as needed). I love that they're small and lightweight enough to throw a couple into a tote bag with a picnic blanket or snacks, and they've been a wonderful upgrade from the enormous, heavy folding chair we've lugged around town in years past. I only regret not buying these sooner.
Luxury Item
Backpacking is very focused on cutting weigh in your pack to reduce fatigue while on trail, but everyone has at least one "luxury item" they are willing to carry the extra weight for and this is mine! The ability to sit in a chair with back support during lunch stops and at camp to help recover from the day on the trail is well worth the 1 lbs 11 oz this chair weighs. It is easy to set up and pack back up, it very stable for a UL chair, and is most importantly comfortable. I have taken this on multiple long weekend trips and it will be with my on a 12 day Philmont New Mexico trip in the summer of 2024! If you want a lightweight chair I highly recommend this one.
Comfortable, could pack down smaller
I'm overall happy with this chair and don't regret the purchase. Used it most recently on a camping trip to the beach where I set it up on the loose sand. The legs held just fine and it was stable even when shifting my weight. Upsides: It definitely feels solid and setup is easy. Construction is rugged enough for any backcountry application. Downsides: Could pack down smaller; similar items on the market outperform in packability. Front edge of seat, including front corners, have a tendency of digging into my legs making extended sits more uncomfortable. Overall would recommend and I'm happy with my purchase.
