Quality not worth cost
These are darker sunglasses good for brighter days, but definitely not high quality / dark enough to be “glacier” glasses per se. The quality is not worth the cost in my opinion - the reflective outer coating scratched off after a few months and the screw on the sunglasses started to get really loose for closing one side. I do really like the case that comes with it and the grippy nose pads help prevent slippage. However, I like my cheaper Sunkis because they don’t have the reflective coating that just scratches off. I also upgraded to smith for about $60 more (bought both brands on sale) and think the extra cost is worth the much higher quality.
Cheap and flimsy
I’ve had these glasses for about a year, and already the side piece broke off on the right side. I needed them to help with sensitive vision, and before that they were great! But it’s obvious that the parts are very cheap, because I simply took them off and the piece snapped off. I would not recommend them, because they’re pretty expensive. Disappointed that REI wouldn’t fix them or start a return, as it was just outside the year-long window.
Excellent sunglasses, nice style
Didn't enitrely know what to expect since these somewhat ape a mountaineering glasses, but more closely resemble casual shades on the spec sheet. What they are, though, is a near perfect pair of casual hiking and outdoors, or even around town sunglasses. The lenses are excellent for the price point - very clear, and the gold tint on my model does an excellent job of improving visibility in summer dust/haze. The frames are very light and strong. The side shields are interesting. I can't see myself use them a lot - the lenses let too much light pass through for high altitude use, and I don't think blocking peripheral field of view is worth it in most other environments. Maybe they're better used in extremely bright, high UV days at lower altitudes or when skiing. When you remove them, light does pass through the holes in the frame, but it's not a big deal. Fantastic sunglasses, overall.
Great for sensitive eyes
I love these glasses. I used to see tons of floaters when outside and these sunglasses prevent that. They’re comfortable and I’ve often worn them running. The style is definitely unique, they make me feel like a steampunk villain but I kind of like it
Break and fog
The sunshade wouldn’t come off and snapped in half when I tried to remove it. They’re marketed as removable. I bought the glasses for mountaineering, and they fog up even in mildly cold temps. I will be returning to REI and not looking to exchange for another pair. Super mot worth the price.
Great looking and super functional; SUPER delicate
Love these shades, but like another reviewer mentioned the side-shades are such delicate plastic you apparently have to treat them like they're made of glass. The first day on the mountain skiing with them in my chest pocket (inside the included soft case) the left side shield plastic "pin" had busted when I took them out to wear while eating lunch outside. I hadn't fallen or made any type of rough contact with them, not sure how/when it even happened. It's a shame because they look and work well otherwise!
Worth it & eco-friendly!!
I have the black glasses and they are amazing!! Happy to have found eco-friendly sunglasses!! I needed legit sunglasses because I live in a very sunny state. You can't go wrong with these. I don't use the side blockers because they would be dangerous to use while hiking. Otherwise, they are top notch! Please not that I see the reflection of my eyes a little bit while wearing them, but it's not extremely noticeable or distracting and I can still see clearly when it happens!
Eye protection and stylish!
I have pinguecula on both eyes and in order to enjoin the outdoors without my pinguecula turning into a pterygium, my doctor said I must wear sunglasses every time I’m outside. All the traditional wrap around sunglasses did not suit my face shape. These sunglasses are perfect! Stylish and protective. I love them so much!
Durable frames, terrible lenses.
I moved from cheaper sunglasses sold at REI to the Sunski Tera's on a whim. I was thrilled for the first few months. The frames are pretty well made, especially at the hinges, and the lens coating provided good clarity for what are ultimately still relatively cheap lenses (same plastic plus coating formula as the cheaper options), but by month 4, the coating on the front of the lens had deteriorated to the point I couldn't use the sunglasses. There was spiderweb-like cracking all over the lens. I get much longer life out of the cheaper options with the same level of care for the sunglasses - always in cases, only cleaned with lens cloths. Submitted warranty claim for the lenses, and Sunski said it looked like wear and tear and would not replace the lenses. Their replacement lenses are about the same price as a new pair of cheaper glasses that last longer, so there's not really a point in these sunglasses, as far as I can tell, since th elens quality is quite bad. Returned to REI.
Sunglasses that work!
I am currently in Colorado, hiking and taking photos from Salida to Leadville, and I needed serious eye protection. These have performed beautifully. High elevations are not the place to risk your eyes - thanks, REI.
