I was looking for a new light weight coat to wear walking the dog, around town and hiking in the woods - this coat is perfect. Very comfortable, warm, and light weight. This coat will also be great for travel. I usually wear a medium, but ordered a large to have more room for a heavy sweater underneath. Also works great with Beta Hardshell Coat over it for extra protection on windy or stormy days. Only complaint is the Cerium is a bit longer than the Beta hardshell coat. Also the neck is overly generous. Need a scarf to keep out the wind. Great fabric and zippers and looks good too! Very happy with my purchase.
[Employee of arcteryx] This ULTRA cozy coat has been my motivation to get outside on the dark cold evenings this winter and also has been making me excited for the colder days. It doesn't feel too bulky, and I appreciate the two-way zipper. I am 5'3, in my ski shell (sentinel) and mid layers (proton) I go for a small, I went for a XS Cerium Mid-Coat since I don't plan to layer thick sweaters under.
I recently bought this coat in an XL after wearing the shorter version of the Cerium for a couple of years. Overall I'm happy with my purchase, I love how light it is and the extra warmth I get from the longer length. A couple of comments / things to look out for, though: - The coat is longer than I expected - I tried both L and XL and they both fell below the knee since i am a puny 5'3". Just something to consider if you're not that tall. - I also agree with folks who said the neck is a bit roomy. A scarf is pretty necessary if I don't want wind getting in. This is different than my experience with the shorter cerium jacket. - Finally, I've had issues with my zipper not staying up while I'm walking - not sure if this is specific to my coat but I would expect my zipper to stay put, especially on such a pricey coat.
A good buy - It is the perfect length and weight! I use it for errands around town or standing on the edge of my son's race course. It's like a mini sleeping bag that you can wear. Super minor comment - I would have liked to have the blue trim on the hood and Arcteryx symbol like the atom and down layer of the same colour. I love the nightshade colour!
Perfect fit based on sizing guidelines on website. Great quality, warm but moves well despite the longer length. Will be great when winter truly hits in the mountains!
Jacket has been great while travelling. It folds up nicely when I need to pack it.
I really love this coat. I live in BC and I have been wearing it down to around -20c with just a thicker base layer underneath on brisk hikes with the dogs. When it has been closer to -30c, I add my mid-length Atom underneath it and I am golden. I was recently in Europe and wore it in +2c to +5c in the wind and damp and I was very comfortable. However as soon as you go inside a shop or get on a train or something, it was way too hot. However it does unzip from the bottom which I found useful and practical. The pockets are really big, on my dog walks I have gloves, car keys, phone, kleenex, headlamp and sometimes a 500ml water bottle. They are generous. There are inside pockets which I haven't used yet, and an inside chest pocket I have also used for my phone. I have also used the stuff-sac that I didn't know the coat came with, to make the coat into a travel pillow for my trip to Europe. Once it came out of compression, a little shake to fluff everything up worked well. I personally now have grown to prefer mid-length jackets so this is an ideal length for me. It is also very lightweight for its warmth ratio, in my opinion. I usually wear womens L but I chose this in XL and I don't have any regrets. I like to be able to add an extra layer underneath if need, which helps easily turn it into my -30c coat. However the extra size would make it problematic to layer it underneath a mid-length raincoat. So consider that if you're on the fence about sizing. One other reviewer mentioned a generous neck and they are right. With it zipped up all the way, it is still quite open in the neck. So in the really cold temps, I choose from a couple of different neck gaiters, depending on how snug I need it. The material feels pretty hard wearing and the hood is a good size. I would buy it in the khaki green if I had a bunch of spare cash kicking around, as I think i'd be lost without this jacket. It just makes me feel super cozy and it doesn't make me feel ginormous...and for that I love it.
