I loved the color (green), but the material was surprisingly itchy. I also found the sleeves to be too tight to wear layers.

Very cute, soft, and comfy fleece and I love the wool/synthetic blend. Best of both worlds performance wise. I like the design too, and love the colors, but there is one big flaw: why would Smartwool, the absolute master of really soft lightweight wool knit fabrics, line the hand pockets with that horrible snaggy synthetic stuff that cheap brands use?!?! Seriously, this was a major miss in an otherwise really awesome jacket. But I still like it and am glad I bought it. Runs big, I exchanged my usual M for a S and it's still plenty roomy for light layering. M would not have fit well under a shell or puffy.

I have been using this for casual use, but I could also wear it on the trail in chilly, not cold weather. The thing I love the most about this jacket is that it fits my build. I am more of an athletic build (bigger arms, bigger back), and this jacket fits my arms and back comfortably with a shirt/thin sweater underneath. It's also soft and cozy, and very versatile. Love it. I've been looking for exactly this for a long time - thanks for finally making it, Smartwool!

I wasn't looking for a sweater. I was specifically looking for a fleece jacket I could wear over layers. What I really like about this jacket is the beefy material, attention to detail, neutral color, zippered pockets, and it lacks a garish logo. The extremely handy front pocket sealed the deal. FYI, I am 172 pounds, 5'8"" and the length hits at the hip. Brilliant idea using socks to make this cozy jacket.

I wanted something really warm and cozy. This hit the spot. Even the pockets are soft and not a different fabric. The blue on top is a little darker than it appears in pictures but I like that darker color anyway. This definitely warm (though wouldn't offer a lot of wind protection). If you're torn between two sizes, go with the smaller size. Highly recommend for warmth and cozy factor!

I was surprised how soft this fleece is and am really impressed with the fit and style. Looking forward to having a fleece layer that doesn't get stinky like synthetics do! Love wool, will buy for husband!

I mostly wore the jacket to and from work, sitting at home, and walking/standing around town. I thought the jacket had all the qualities of a merino wool layer - decent temperature control and odor-neutralization. It is on the thicker side so it was great for cool morning hikes in the Front Range. I also tested out the jacket as a mid layer under my ski jacket and on top a wool shirt. It's great! I like that I can layer it both underneath and on top of my outfits. Depending on your outer later, it might be a little tight. The jacket is on the baggier and bulkier side so I prefer it as an outer layer. The material starts off a little scratchy but once it breaks in, it is super cozy to relax at home with. I also want to highlight that what I like most about the jacket is the concept of Second Cut. As an avid camper and hiker who's been hitting the trails for two decades, I've got high standards for my layers. Knowing this gear is part of Smartwool's circular initiative, using pre-consumer merino scraps, scored massive points for sustainability. This jacket instantly became part of my rotation for day hikes, car camping, and even just crushing the pre-adventure errands. The fleece itself is dense and high-quality—super cozy for moderate activities or just chilling at camp. Fit-wise, it's definitely a relaxed, boxy cut. On my athletic, shorter frame, the silhouette isn't the most flattering, and my arms are a touch too short, making the sleeves bunch up to look a bit 'rollie pollie' through the arms. It layers great over a thin base layer, but forget using it as a mid-layer; it's too bulky to squeeze under my shells. I did notice some minor pilling under the arms early on, so I'll be keeping an eye on durability there. Where this jacket really shines is its performance in cool conditions (40–60°F). The temperature regulation is dialed; I stayed consistently comfy whether I was setting up camp or crushing a morning hike. It's highly breathable, which helps manage moisture when you start moving, which is a huge win for multi-day trips, but that's also its Achilles' heel: it offers zero wind resistance. Seriously, a breeze cuts right through, so if there's any wind, you'll need to throw a shell over it. Even after a month of use, the merino properties are obvious; I noticed zero residual funk. I only washed the jacket to get the campfire smell out.   Overall, this jacket is an essential, cozy piece for low-to-moderate output and general outdoor lifestyle. It crushes it for comfort and temp regulation, making it the perfect grab-and-go jacket. If you need a breathable, soft layer that transitions perfectly from running errands to the trail, this fleece definitely earns a spot in your gear closet. I'd recommend this fleece to anyone looking for a comfy breathable layer for low-output day trips, cozy car camping nights, or just running errands.
