How to Choose Insulated Jackets

With 800-fill-power down and a thermal-reflective lining, this Columbia puffer packs serious warmth. It fights chills on its own or as an insulating mid layer. And it's packable into its own pocket.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The price would suggest this is Columbia's top of the line and warmest jacket according to their own metrics. However, there is little down fill. The jacket is lightweight, and moderately warm. That's all the good. The bad, the price - it's priced at the top of Columbia's range, but for what? The bonded baffles present huge holes for heat loss, there is hardly any down, the neck is cut very wide and the waist is tight despite the wind cord being completely loosened (I have a 30 waist). Length is okay. Overall, I can't see any reason to buy this over Columbia's or competitor's cheaper options.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just purchased this jacket, I was expecting good quality and to be warmer for the price, I’m handle cold weather very well I’m a bear type guy, but I don’t recommend this jacket to anyone else that can’t handle cold. It doesn’t work for low temperatures, works better for 50+ f*
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It is too small. It is not warm at all. Horrible inventon. Only appearance looks great. Size is wrong too unless you are as skinny as a skeleton. If you are Medium size you should get XL. That is how small it is
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really like the look of this jacket. I am not convinced that it is as warm as they say. I wore it to my grandaughters hockey game and it was beginning to get a bit chilly. I am wondering if you have to be moving to make it warm? The packability part is amazing and I plan to bring it on our Alaskan cruise this coming summer. I love the jacket, just nervous that i sold my previous warm jacket when i got this one and that might have been a mistake.
I own a Delta Ridge jacket the I really like and it is a very smart looking jacket. The down pattern of the Crux jacket is very similar ( not your typical everyday "puffer"). The Crux is lighter and warmer than the Delta Ridge. However, the fit of the Crux is completely different. I wear a men's size small. The Crux sleeves are about 1&1/2 inches longer and the collar opening is a full one inch wider and allows a lot of cold air to go down your neck. I wanted to love the Crux jacket but there was no way I could make the fit feel comfortable. The sleeves were just crumpled up my on my arms and the neck opening looked really odd. If the Crux fit had been the same as the Delta Ridge, it would still have it hanging in my closet , instead I returned it in hopes that future renditions of the Crux will be a closer fit to that of the Delta Ridge.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It is not interchange compatible. If it works only with some interchange jackets at least let us know which ones. It’s that kind of material that feels like anything pointy will puncture it. Definitely feels way overpriced for what it is. It'll hold warm maximum 35F if no wind anything lower you'll be cold.
I like it a lot! However it runs a little small and I ordered a large. It is also a much lighter jacket than I thought it would be. Some of the threads near the hang-up loop are already coming loose after just a day. I'll be exchanging my large size for an extra large when it comes back in stock.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A must buy if you're looking for a really lite weight jacket that continuly keeps you warm in even the colded weather.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So warm and yet so light. My absolute favorite. I would not trade this for anything else.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Light weight and very fitting. Hope it will weather the cold.
