REI Co-op  Swiftland Thermal Running Hoodie - Men's

I’ve been an athlete most of my life. Now that I have kids I still try to stay active and try to do it outside while hiking, walking and participating in my outdoor photography adventures. I got this REI Co-op Men’s Swiftland Thermal Running Hoodie and it works well for many of the seasons that we have in the Northeastern USA. I really don’t like heavy sweatshirts, so this lightweight hoodie/sweatshirt is fantastic. One of the things that impressed me right away was the fit. I fit into large size items and this fits true to size, Large… Not XL not medium, but a perfect sized Large. That made me happy I did not feel it was too tight or hugging me like many thermals feel. I had room to move, which is very important when you’re staying active outside. I also like the attention to the details that REI added to this item. The thumb holes are great. What I even found better was that if you didn’t want to use them you can’t even tell that they’re there. They’re basically out of sight. You don’t even know that you have thumb holes available, but they’re there if you want them. When I’m hiking or doing photography later at night I appreciate that REI also added some reflective touches to this garment to help other see me while I’m out doing my low light/evening activities. The color I chose was Teal Storm. It’s technically a green, but it’s more of an unusual, subdued, green rather than something bright or flashy. I’m also a fan of this hoodie and it’s minimalistic styling. It does not have a lot of stuff going on. In fact there’s only one small pocket for keys or money, which is all I really need when I’m out and about. My camera would be strapped across my chest or I’d have a small cross chest bag my my other needed items. The REI Mens’s Swiftland Thermal Running Hoodie feels great directly against my skin or with a T-shirt as a base layer. What a very handy piece of workout gear this hoodie is - it seems very well-made too. I can see it being a part of my wardrobe for many years to come. Thank you for making an excellent item, REI.

I’m an avid runner and I like proper running clothes. This REI long sleeve fleece running shirt is a good one for chilly days. It provides a bit of warmth and it also breathes properly. It’s not a windbreaker at all, but it’s not supposed to be. The fleece is like a micro grid pattern. It’s not for super cold weather, but for temps in the 20s and 30s it works well. It does have thumbholes. And it has a little zip pocket on the lower right bottom of the shirt. There are a few reflective spots on this shirt as well, which is nice. I’m around 73 inches and 190 lbs and the large fits well. It is slightly baggy, but that’s OK because I can put a t-shirt under it if I need to. Overall this is a good running/outdoors shirt that is comfortable to wear on a run, hike, or just for a long sleeve shirt on a cool day.

This is an awesome running hoodie. The warmth is perfect for hikes in 50-60 dgree weather and runs in the 40's. The hood is great, with elastic that keeps it around your face, with no need for draw-strings, the one thing I dislike about running with sweatshirts. The material is very soft and comfortable. It also blocks the wind really well. I used it at Crater Lake in heavy winds and didn't feel a thing. The one thing is it can get warm. No zippers for cooling or extra ventilation, although humidity didn't seem to build up. The single pocket is nice for a little key, but i kept reaching for a middle pocket like other hoodies. Not a big problem though. I have a medium that feels like a large.

When the REI Swiftland Thermal Hoodie became available to sample and review, I jumped on it! Why? Because l live in Colorado at over a mile high altitude and I wanted to see if I could wear this comfortably while hiking in 80 plus degree heat and not become over-heated nor saturated and drowning in my own sweat! Guess what? I could stay dry and comfortable and as a bonus protect my arms, neck and nearly bald head, from burning and further skin damage! Even with the hood on my head I stayed pretty cool and didn't need to wear a cap. As a bonus the fabric didn't retain any body odor at all and I wore it several times before first wash in a washing machine using cold water. It came out of the dryer spotless with no odor retention and wrinkle free. I'm not an expert in clothing design but the under side of the fabric that sits next to your skin is a type of waffle pattern and I feel that it made a noticeable difference in comfort, wicking and breathability!

I bought this as a mid layer for backpacking. It kept me nice and warm in the upper 50s in the Tetons. Very well designed.
