Recover Smarter, Not Harder: Tailwind’s New Formula
I’ve been using Tailwind Nutrition Recovery Mix after my long runs and workouts, and the new formula is a noticeable upgrade, and I’m impressed. The big change is more protein, 20 grams to be exact, of organic rice + fava + essential amino acids, which really helps muscles bounce back. It also has the right carbs to refill glycogen and electrolytes to replace what I sweat out. And then there’s the taste, honestly, that might be my favorite part. It’s smooth, light, and not chalky at all. It actually feels like a reward after training. For me, this Recovery Mix hits all three and has become an essential part of my post-run routine.
Two steps forward in nutrition; A step backward in taste
I applaud the nutritional changes in the reformulation. Unfortunately, the taste, at least of the salted caramel version, took a step back. Before, it had a distinct salted caramel flavor without being overly sweet. Now it has a sweeter, vaguely caramel flavor. I don't really mind the change in mouthfeel from the new frothiness, but it does make it less convenient if you're shaking in one container and transferring it to another: there's a _lot_ of foam. Overall, I still think it's a top notch recovery product. I just hope that the taste can be tweaked with time to be more like the old recipe.
Not like it use to be, just like all the others now
Recovery drinks are always tough to determine if they do anything, in the end I guess the biggest test is whether you're crashing after a work out. I originally used Recovery because of ease of digestion, and stayed because of the taste. The new formula is eh, tastes no different than any other protein powder, honestly kind of bland. It's now more expensive. Looking at the High Carb drink TW just introduced, they also include fructose. Again not focusing on ease of digestion. Was able to score some old stock for Recover, bought a year's worth. Have to evaluate different options when done.
Disappointed
I am huge Tailwind fan, but this one really missed the mark. I should have listened to the bad reviews, but decided to give it a try. The Strawberry Recovery mix tasted nothing like strawberry. It has a very powdery protein taste. If you are looking for a strong strawberry flavor or something that tastes like a treat, this isn’t it. I will be sticking to the Vanilla, Chocolate and Salted Caramel. Oh well, had to give it a try. Would be great if Tailwind gave a sample of the new flavors in the orders so not to waste money on ordering a few to make the cost of shipping balance out.
A Game-Changer for Recovery!
I’ve been using the Chocolate Recovery Mix after tough runs and workouts, and it’s quickly become a staple for me. I love how versatile it is. I’ll throw it into a smoothie when I want something more filling, or just mix it with almond milk for a quick pick-me-up. The flavor is rich and satisfying without being overly sweet, and the new formulation with added protein really helps me feel like I’m refueling properly. I’ve noticed I wake up the next day feeling less sore and ready to train again, which makes a huge difference in keeping consistent with my workouts. If you’re on the fence, give it a try. Having something that tastes great AND helps with recovery makes it so much easier to stick with a routine.
Best Recovery Mix
All the flavors are delicious and mix together super well with the new Yeti mixing cups. I mix it with white milk and it hasn't let me down yet!
New Formulation
I had tried the sample pack about a month ago and loved the salted caramel flavor, so when I reordered my electrolytes I also got a pack of salted caramel recovery sticks. I didn't know until I received my order that the recipe had changed to increase protein content, specifically by adding fava bean protein isolate (and removing the coconut milk powder). Unfortunately, this gave the mixed recovery drink a terrible bean-y aftertaste. I wish I had known it was a different mix before I ordered a whole pack, because it's not very pleasant anymore :/
Love the new Recovery Mix flavor and added protein
I have been using Recovery Mix for years. I've had chocolate, vanilla, mint chocolate limited edition, salted caramel,. . . and was curious about the new strawberry flavor. I really like it and added it to my rotation. I usually have one serving at the end of a long run with some good vertical climb. I also like that the protein is now 20 grams. I think that helps feeling better later in the day and the next day since I quite beat myself up in the mountains. I trust what they do and recommend you give is a try.
Not liking the new recovery mixes
I'm not a big fan of the new recovery mixes. I got the strawberry when it first came out and I'm not a big fan of the flavor and it didn't mix very well. When I ran out of the old chocolate recovery mix I bought the new one and I'm not a big fan of it either. It's lacking a good chocolate flavor it taste more like a protein product with some chocolate flavoring and when it mixes it's very foamy. I'm hoping for some improvements on both flavors. I Would like to continue supporting this company and its products
powder to water ratio
I love the flavor, but there is a LOT of powder for how much liquid it is recommended to mix it with!
