[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First of all, I want to thank Katadyn Group for giving me this product to try for free in exchange for my honest review. I have to say that after using this on several day hikes, this product is, quite frankly, a game changer. I love the ease and convenience of filtering water quickly and reliably while out on the trail. A little about me: I've been hiking and backpacking for 30+ years and have used all sorts of water filtration systems ~ water pumps, purification drops, iodine, squeezes...and all of them have had their advantages and disadvantages. But this new BeFree? I love it! What I love: It's very lightweight. It's easy to clean. It's easy to use. The water tasted good. The flow rate is great! I've used many bottles with similar tops when I ride my bike and always frustrated by how slowly the water came out. Not so with this bottle. What I think could improve: Not much! It did make a weird sound when we drank from it the first few times but with the right angle and squeeze it went away. I also suggest following the instructions and wipe the bottle before you put the lid/filter on. You are submerging the bottle in the water source and you want to make sure you're not accidentally consuming untreated water. I stuck the lid/filter in my backpack or jacket pocket while I was filling my bottle so I didn't get untreated water on it. Overall I'm really happy with it and plan to make it a regular part of my gear, whether I'm on a day hike or overnight trip. I work in the camping department of a store and am always making recommendations to customers. I'm glad I can give an honest firsthand recommendation of this product!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The BeFree bottle is a fantastic trail ready filter bottle setup. Prior to trying this bottle I have used (and been a big fan of) the BeFree collapsible bottle and this non collapsible version is a great addition to the lineup. The flow rate on the BeFree filter is incredible. It’s simple, easy to use, and easy to clean (at home or in the field). I was curious how the bottle would bounce back after being squeezed and the one-way air vent functions well, hasn’t leaked, and helps tue bottle perform flawlessly. This will be my new go to filter for the trail. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review, and I genuinely think it's a great piece of gear. It's lightweight, but not flimsy, and is the perfect size to fit in the side pouch of a backpack or a bottle holder. The filter works great. It's simple to use and the flow rate is way more efficient than a lot of other water purification products that I've used in the past.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Received the bottle and inserted the carbon filter and then ran tap water through it. Then, I used this product to filter water at a stream on a hike, and the flow was great and the product is so easy to use. I just strapped the bottle on my pack and could easily get to it to fill up and drink cold fresh water. It cleans easily and the filter worked great. This product can be used by a beginner or an expert. I've been using BeFree for years and I think what I really like about this new bottle is that it fits on the side pocket of pack as well as in the attachment I use on my front strap.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was genuinely impressed by how fast this filter flows, significantly better than other filters I’ve used in the past. Straight forward to use and clean. The bottle itself is slightly softer than a standard cycling bottle, which makes it easy to squeeze and noticeably boosts water output up to 2L/min when you need it. One important consideration: the filter components are sensitive to freezing and can be damaged if they freeze, so extra care is required in cold environments to prevent freezing. Beyond the sensitivity to freezing, I don’t question it’s durability and ability to hold up in typical outdoor activities. Overall, this is an excellent option to keep on your mountain bike or in a backpack when heading into the backcountry. It offers the convenience of refilling from nearby water sources without sacrificing flow rate or usability. It is too big to fit in a running vest front pocket, but thankfully Katadyn makes filtration bottles that do! Katadyn Group gave me this free product to try.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I gave the BeFree 0.3L 5 stars because it does exactly what it’s supposed to do without overcomplicating anything. I used it straight from a creek with some sediment and the flow rate was still strong. The activated carbon helps with taste, and the water came out clean and neutral. Something that Katadyn does absolutely great. It’s lightweight, compact, and easy to use on the go. The only reason it’s not a perfect 10 is just capacity, 0.3L is great for quick refills, but not meant for long stretches without a water source. For short hikes, ultralight, and minimalist setups though, it’s ideal, and I’ll definitely be taking it on future trips!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am a long time user of the BeFree filter and have dozens of backpacking trips with it. I use mine with the BeFree 3 liter bag. I was excited to have the opportunity to try out my beloved filter in a new bottle set up. BeFree did send me this bottle filter to review for free but the opinions are my own and not influenced by its freeness. Out of the box, I felt the instantly familiarity and confidence in the filter due to my past experiences. The filter element looks the same, it’s just now part of the bottle lid with a flip top cap. The cap and the flip top felt robust and not flimsy or cheap. The bottle part has a good amount of rigidity but has plenty of flex to squeeze it without being a workout. Sturdy but flexible at the same time. It has a small Carbon cylinder that you can add to the lid just under the opening to help with taste in the water. It does slow down the flow noticeably but it was still very acceptable flow. The bottle could not be easier to use. Just fill it up, screw on the lid and drink. Filtering out bacteria, microplastics and other contaminants in the water. I would recommend this to be used in any application where you can get water from sources as you go through the day. I used it for biking and it fit into a frame mounted water bottle holder. I used it during kayaking and strapped it to the deck of the kayak. I will mostly use it for hiking and backpacking as any easy and quick way to get my water. Well done BeFree. Thank you for the filter. See you on outside. Happy Trails.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This system is super easy to use. The directions are clear and concise. The system was super durable. I have had no problems. I used it three times all in very cold temperatures, but the flow was still incredible. The system is very easy to clean, which makes it perfect for travel on backpacking. Katadyn Group gave me this free product to try.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Over the last couple weeks I tested this bottle while hiking. It's incredibly lightweight and easy to use. Placing the carbon filter was easy, just have to be cautious to not damage the fibers. Using on the trail was no issue. Simply pull from flowing water, put the lid on, and drink! I didn't notice any unusual tastes through the filter. Cleaning the bottle after a hike is quick. I appreciate that it's an easy to use system. The bottle feels high quality but the material is thin. I'll be curious to see how it holds up after a year or more of use. Overall this bottle would be great for hiking, outdoor adventures, and keeping in an emergency kit. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] While this was not the most convenient filter bottle, it did have some niche uses. I used this bottle in my everyday travels and on a long day hike. I’m both instances, there were other filtration options that I found to be more convenient. The AC bottle is strong but has enough flexibility for you to squeeze water through the filter. Unfortunately this is really the best way to use as actively sucking water causes the air intake valve to make a very obnoxious sound. I did appreciate having a filter built into the bottle when going to places where I was unsure of the filter status, but such a niche use case does not have me reaching for it on most days.
