Don't buy for weight - specs on REI.com are wrong

These poles are NOT ultralight. The specs on the REI website say "Weight (pair) - 9.42 oz." However, the packaging clearly stated when I received them that they are 9.4oz PER POLE. I am going to return without trying them. I thought when I saw them on the REI site in January that Black Diamond had come up with a true competitor in ultralight poles. Too good to be true. I don't know how they rate compared to other BD poles.

Great trekking poles

Went into the store to look at the REI traverse trekking poles and talked with one of the employees. We discussed what my use cases were and he showed me the black diamond trail vista flz poles and the REI poles. I was able to demo both poles. The BD trail vista flz just felt better and conveniently folds down for easier storage and travel especially if you're flying. I used them for the first time the next day and they felt phenomenal and were easy to use. I also like that when it comes to trekking poles these sit at a reasonable price point and are quite light at 9 oz each. I would definitely recommend them,

Good if you do not need to adjust the height.

The folding bungee cord design is convenient for travel. When you pull firmly on the rope section to straighten the poles there is a metal clip that secures the pole. The clamp design to adjust height is perilous. The poles are aluminum on aluminum, they do not clamp securely and will let you down when you need it the most. However, if you can live with them in their lowest height, you don’t seem to have to worry about slippage.
