The Leatherman Wave Alpha is an impressive update of a legendary multitool. The G10 handles are outstanding, and the redesigned main blade, reminiscent of the Benchmade Osborne, is a great addition. The tool's overall width has been reduced. The pocket clip and sheath should have been included, and there is no good reason for Leatherman to omit the ruler built into the handle of the regular Wave.
It’s a slick little tool. Did a lot of research before buying it. I would have gone with the ARC, but the full sized scissors an g10 were factors. The scales make it feel really good in hand. The reason it’s not 5 stars? No clip or sheath. Really dumb miss IMO. But I guess for another $50 you can get it with the ARC(or buy one online for $15).
Super stiff out of the box, could barely open the blade, and the scissors wouldn't fully deploy. When I loosened the pivot screw on the blade, I couldn't get it to be loose enough to flip open without there being way too much blade play. Disappointing. I returned it.
I bought this multitool as it was a return. I went to REI to purchase the ARC, but saw the ALPHA in a return section for $60 less than a new one that doesn’t come with a clip, case or tools. Nothing was wrong with it. Not a scratch. This added to my collection as 13 multitools. This ALPHA is a great little tool to have as an EDC or tool for a hike. I wanted the newest blade this tool had to try it out. I found it to be nicer then some of the other blade materials use in other multitools. I would have preferred it to be a little thicker. All the tools on it are all great quality. The feel in my hand is really comfortable when really torturing down with the pliers. All an all the ALPHA is a great tool. Leatherman messed up not adding at least a case for the over price they ask. This ALPHA multitool is a great addition for anyone's needs. REI makes it a great place to purchase it with their return policy and rebate. Would recommend you buy the multitool to meet your user needs. REI has them all on display so we can get a feel for them. My favorite is the CHARGE for EDC. The SURGE for outdoor camping and the MUT for other outdoor adventures. I was lucky to get the ALPHA at such a great price at REI and whether full price or not, this is a great tool to have for just about anyones needs.
Another great Leatherman product!! The customer service at the REI in Jackson Wyoming is horrible. I will be avoiding this store altogether. There are plenty of locally owned store to shop at in Jackson WYoming.
I'm not sure why this thing doesn't get more attention. Excelling quality, very compact but it is a bit heavy. Not loving the idea of toting this around the mountains, but I probably will cuz it's cool.
I needed a multi tool I could depend on that had lots of features. Found it, even with comfortable G10 grips and an easy to find quick deployable knife.
TERRIBLE SERVICE! I NEVER RECEIVED THIS ITEM THAT I ORDERED WEEKS AGO
