Exped  Ultra 6.5R Duo Sleeping Pad

Full disclosure, this is my first ever sleeping pad, so I can’t compare to others. I was looking for a good solution for backpacking with my two 50-pound dogs that would max out our comfort without taking up a ton of space and weight in my pack. The EXPED ultra duo is basically the same weight as a UL wide sleeping pad and a closed cell foam pad, combined, but gives my dogs the comfort and warmth of an inflatable pad. And it gives me more cuddles with the dogs. I throw a camp blanket over it along with a 1/8” foam pad to further protect the dogs’ side, and we are cozy all night. I toss and turn, and had no issues sleeping on my back, side, or stomach.

If you want to be effective sleeping next to someone in the back country, get this pad. It has separate chambers for each person to adjust the firmness to their preferences. It eliminated the seam from trying to lash two pads together and you can share warmth on the already warm pad. It packs down a little bigger than my single and is a pound heavier. But sharing the tent space and splitting the gear weight makes it work. Each side blows up full in about 3 fills of the pump bag and you don't get light headed. I am so happy I finally picked it up.

Bought this pad recently so my wife and I could cuddle up when we tent camp. While it was quick to inflate and fairly comfortable to sleep on, the pad makes a lot of noise with every movement of your body. We kept waking each other up when one of us would inevitably change our sleep position. Will probably return in favor of a self inflating pad.

Great 2-person sleeping pad. The medium size is about identical in size as 2 mummy pads, weighs less, and is more comfortable. Held up great on a 3-day trip sleeping on rocks, dirt, and in-between. The dual air chambers are a great addition too, because it keeps the pad balanced and allows different levels of firmness per side.

I’m impressed by the comfort of this pad. Yes it’s naturally noisier than a foam pad but quieter than other air pads I’ve used. I was comfortable side sleeping and felt this pad provided excellent comfort. For nights car camping or short distance hikes I will probably put Z fold foam under just to make it even more luxurious and preserve the mat as much as possible. I went with the medium size not the long wide— I’m 5’11” 195lb and my partner is smaller than me. I noticed there were moments where my arm was slightly off the mat and I had to adjust. I wouldn’t have bought the larger version as the increased weight and unnecessary length made this seem overkill. I’m glad I didn’t buy the larger one and I think you’ll be fine adjusting unless you need the extra spaced based on your height/weight. Inflating it was a breeze with the inflation sac, which is really cool. At first I regretted not having a pump but I got it inflated pretty quickly with the bag so it wasn’t a problem at all. I love how both sides can inflate separately. One purchaser said the valves were by the feet, which isn’t true. So if you do need a micro adjustment it’s easy to do while you’re on the pad. This seems well built with intentional attention to detail. I can’t speak for the longevity and or durability yet but am looking forward to getting this out in the backcountry more.
