Excellent foot bed and flexibility in the upper foot while still being secure. If you’re used to A LOT of cushion it will be a change, but it a great starter boot for someone looking to go towards more of the barefoot feel. This shoe has helped me retain stability on ice in a surprising way. 11/10
After 2 weeks and several 4-6 mile hikes, I can recommend these shoes. They provide the ankle support I need (I usually hike in Lowa Boots) and the toe box room. They are lightweight and supposedly water resistant. I've never found Altra shoes to be waterproof but they do provide some semblance of water resistance. I've worn Altra's for many years now and like their fit. No blisters or rub points.
I bought these recently and finally getting them out and about. I haven’t yet taken them to rough terrain, but the weather has turned cool and rainy in CO and they’ve been great - warm, dry, walking miles, zero break-in and they are so comfortable I hardly want to take them off. I look forward to putting them through the paces on the trail through the summer. Yikes on choosing my age range in this review!
Really like these hiking boots. They fit better than the lone peak since I have a little narrower feet. I’m normally a 7.5 in most shoes, but usually size up to 8 for hiking shoes. I didn’t have to do that with these and the 7.5 fits great. The only weird thing is the final lace loop around the ankle isn’t a normal loop that easily wraps around. You have to pull the laces through the hole which is strange and I don’t like that since it’s kind of useless the way they designed it.
Best I’ve ever had! Lightweight, comfortable from moment one, and the bottoms are sticky! I just climbed Royal Arch, a trail with a steep incline and a lot of loose scree, and didn't slide once. I’ve hiked it in two other pairs of boots, and had to brace myself with each step and take it really slow. My feet are so happy!
Very comfortable and breathable. The wide toe box is great! I struggle finding shoes wide enough for my feet, and these fit perfect.
I have several pairs of Altra Experience that I love. The waterproof Timp hiker is just as comfortable. It did run large, and I had to change my order to a half size smaller than my usual 10.5 Women's. REI made the return easy.
Good quality. Perfect for a wider, flat foot or someone who needs a wide toe-box. Water resistant, but not water proof. Decent ankle support. Good cushion under-foot. Lightweight & more of a hybrid with a trail running shoe. But the sides rub against my bunions and cause blisters which doesn’t happen in other shoes.
