I’m 5'0" and about 112 lbs with a medium build, and the XS fit me in a relaxed, easy way. It’s comfortable but not flattering on a shorter frame. If you’re very slim, the XS might feel very loose. The pants have plenty of pockets: 2 hand pockets, 2 front pockets on the thighs, and 1zippered back pocket. My iPhone mini fits securely in the back pocket when zipped. My standard‑size sunglass case didn’t fit securely in any of the pockets. The fabric is lightweight with a soft, flexible feel, and the rust‑brown color has a nice warm tone. The elastic waistband is comfortable and easy to wear. These aren’t the kind of pants that feel special but they’re solid, practical, and easy to throw on for casual hikes or relaxing around a campsite. I can see myself wearing them often when I camp.
First off the bat; I'm typically between sizes (1X-2X), and I was more 1X when I originally requested these but unfortunately put on quite a bit of weight in a short time due to a medical issue and they don't quite fit for me, so I'm putting them to the side for when I shed some of this weight! Fit: Loose styled, and I think quite comfortable in concept. The gathering at the ankles is generous, so if you have more substantial calves you won't feel like you're cutting off circulation, which is huge so kudos to REI for realizing that's a pain point. The thinness of the fabric is not kind to those of us with apron bellies, particularly in the colorway I got. It's also of note that the elastic waistband can roll as it's just gathered fabric with a drawstring inside it. I think it could have been cut more generously at the hips/rear since it is so thin to avoid clinging too much. I'm 5'9" and it's right on the line of too short for me. When I bent at the waist it rode up quite a bit (see the photo) so taller folks might find it unbearably short. Fabric: Have I mentioned it's thin? That makes it actually really comfortable on a hot day; these pants give you sun protection without being suffocating. I could see myself wearing these on a kayaking trip to keep my legs unburnt. This colorway looks different in different lighting, but it's not unappealing. I found it to be darker/redder in real life. It will show sweat, wrinkles, and panty lines if those bother you, but that's the trade-off for quick dry and lightweight fabric. It has a little bit of stretch and seems pretty durable feeling. Design: The pockets are nice and roomy, although the only one that zips shut is the one on the rear; the side pockets are simply slip-in. The two slanted pockets on the hips and the zippered pockets are mesh lined, while the cargo pockets on the lower thighs are patch-style pockets of the same fabric as the rest of the pants. There is one design element that is absolutely perplexing to me, which is the stitched outline of a traditional fly-front. It seems to be entirely stylistic but the stitching pulled oddly and just felt unnecessary. Ultimately, I like the concept and these will be perfect summertime pants to stay cool and avoid sun on your legs. The decorative fly, clingy fabric, and shorter length are disappointing and knock a star off for me. For some they will be too thin or proportioned wrong, and that's disappointing for us physically larger folks, but I'm excited to lose a little weight and hit the trails.
These pants are very comfortable. I love how deep both front pockets are. There are two additional pockets on the front of the leg that will come in handy, but I haven't used them yet. The zipper pocket on the back of also very deep. The material is pretty thin, which was great for being outside when it's nearly 70 degrees. I wouldn't recommend these for cooler weather activities. I ordered a large and they fit me pretty well. The legs were a bit baggy, but I didn't mind that. I typically wear a medium or large in this type of pants, so the fit seemed accurate to the description. Overall, I really like these pants.
These are great pants. I received the Terra Red color. They are lightweight, comfortable and are SPF 50+. I've used them biking around the city, as well as hiking. They have a good pocket space and I appreciate the cuffed bottom. I got a size small, but are a bit too long and baggy on me, though I am short. I would recommend these pants overall!
It's so lightweight and great for a day full of walking or hiking. I'm short and typically have to buy petite or get my pants hemmed. However, the elastic bottom made sure I wasn't tripping on these! And the POCKETS are HUGE. When I'm wearing these casually (not hiking/gardening), I can fit my whole phone and wallet in them! In women's pants!!! The wide elastic waistband is nice--no belt needed. In the garden, I'm able to squat without issue (the cut of fabric is not restrictive and I don't have to pull the pants up), and I'm a curvy gal. Honestly, these are my new favorite outdoor pants.
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. I really wanted to love these pants. For a shorter person, the inseam was a little long and there was no way to cinch the legs, even though there is elastic at the bottom of the pants. I tended to walk on the bottom of the legs. The waist was a little tight in comparison to the voluminous amount of fabric in the hips, backside, and legs. Even though the sizing seemed wonky, I thought the pants were comfortable. What was great - the color! So fun! The fabric is light weight and very quick drying. They felt well constructed. I wore them to work, to the gym, hiking, etc. The pants seemed to accept the challenge of whatever life threw at them and win. I liked the small loop sewn into the front waist to hang keys or a work badge. Good pockets. The waist pockets have a mesh lining, there are cargo pockets (just a flap to close), and a zippered back pocket. It would be nice if there was a zipper or Velcro on the flap of the cargo pocket.
These pants seem really comfortable and I think they will move well for hiking. There is ample fabric in the legs, an elastic waistband that is wide and NOT too tight (plus it has a drawstring), and for me at 5'4" the length is perfect. I am typically a size small, 25 in jeans, and the small is perfect. My big complaint is that the left pocket has a flaw; it was accidentally stitched to the side seam. It makes putting my hands in my pockets feel weird because the right side is normal. I might exchange them but I hate the hassle.
Just bought these and they fit so great. I’m pretty curvy and the XL fit great. Definitely relaxed in the best way
